You're not "supposed" to eat rice any way. I'm korean and if we're eating kimchi with our rice, we use chopsticks to wrap the kimchi around the rice and pick up the "kimchi roll" i guess you would call it. You can eat rice with a spoon or chopsticks, really doesn't matter.
