well no shit when you play somone early on they might have a winning record, what really matters is how that team turned out. take for example back in 2005 when notre dame played michigan state, msu was undefeated at that time and eventually got ranked, but then looke how they ended 5-6 losing record. same with michgan that year, everyone thought nd was a world beater once they beat michigan, but look at michigan's final record 7-5 nowhere near their previous top 5 ranking
