saw both my Steely Dan concerts at the Nissan Pavilion... a great venue. lawn seats are the best. great sound system. also saw Yes, Chicago, Moody Blues, Buffet and Sting there... not a bad seat in the house. BTW, The Dan concert blew the rest away. These guys are top shelf.
I was living in Manassas at the time and actually helped build the Nissan Pavillian, but I never went to a concert there. One of the perks of working there was free tickets to two events per year for five years, but I never collected. I guess I could have and sold them. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
Great music is progressive and balances the expected with the unexpected. The association of the phrase "hey nineteen" with this tune goes without saying. Why repeat it? It's very Dan-like to drop it. If there were any doubts, D tags it at 5.42.

I've been a SD fan for 36 years. Last week I went to the Amsterdam concert with my 20 year old son - he bought the tickets - thank you Toby...this is your big debut -
Yes and among them are Cocaine (which i don't recommend but if I'm not mistaken is their gross national product) and also some very tasty marijuana. In either case, I don't do either (anymore at least.)
Wow, I've never seen Donald Fagen look this good before...he's a proper beatnik in this clip. Also had a good laugh at the 'dynamite reefer' comment. Haven't heard that term since the 70's! Such words would either brand one an aging burn-out or the coolest of the cool...Fagen is obviously the latter.
I've been looking for old Steely Dan clips and they're hard to find. What did Don normally look like? I realize this clip is ~20 years after the song was popular.
In earlier clips, he generally looked like he didn't pay much attention to his hair/clothing. In this clip, his hair/beard are very precise, he's wearing a sharp outfit, and the glasses are high-quality. Judging from the jawline/neck, it even looks like he's started working out. Very, very nice.

Sometimes Becker's noodling around during the verses is kinda pointless. It's interesting that they always hire guys to play the studio parts.

i've got a fever and the only cure is more bass drum, the only thing missing from the original, otherwise this is brilliant

Actually, it's COLOMBIAN as in Colombia, the country. Many fine agricultural products come from there.

Donald could be played at this stage of his life by Jeff Goldblum, if he pulled the old standing-on-his-knees trick.
