It doesn't work on the base game un-patched straight off the disc. It was title update 4 that gave you the ability to do it i believe. That's why you get the exploding legs but no xp if you do the base game I think. For those of you it's worked for after deleting update 5 I ask this question, did you download the digital copy of fallout NV from xbox live or are you using the version from launch?

After that I disconnected from the internet, deleted update 5 by going in this order on the dashboard - My Xbox>System Settings>Memory>Hard Drive>Games>Fallout New Vegas. Then I started my new game and was able to do the glitch. When I did it the only DLC perks that I could choose were from Dead Money, these were the only ones accesable for some reason.

Alright Ill explain exactly what I did, first of all when I did this 2 days ago I had no other saved New Vegas games on my hardrive cuz I deleted them. If you have some that you want to save I would suggest putting them to a USB device becausr I do not know if the saved games with the patch will make it carry over to a new game even if you delete the title update 5.

I just did this glitch today ON my Xbox360, I deleted the patch from my console by straight to my hardrive from the dashboard and then into games and Fallout New Vegas. It works if you disconnect from the internet, delete the patche(s) and then start the game (internet still disconnected). You should be able to do what this guy did perfectly and be at level 45 (if you have Old World Blues) in no time and have your 87 perks or whatever it is.

Ok using a flash/usb drive currently doesn't work with any software i could find, but it works if you hook your 360 hard drive up to your pc directly. This can be done with a transfer cable if you have an old 360, if you have the 'slim' it's a little trickier but still doable, there are plenty of vids on youtube that will show you how.

I think I've found a work around using a USB drive. First you need to format your flash drive for your 360 then you need to download the following program and then the 'title update 4'. Go to jqe360.com to find the title update 4 and google search and download xbox usb storage explorer, aka Xplorer.

About to test this out and will comment again if it works.

 no it won't you need patch 1..02 to use this glitch- its the reason for my lack of vids, i'm trying to find a workaround, if you have a modded XBOX you might want to look into getting project mojave for your game (I've heard it is difficult but possible) it lets you take a perk every time you level up

If I am correct, the newest fallout nv patch supposedly corrected this glitch, so if you want bloody mess x2 or any other perk for that matter, do not download the latest update.

@Piercedmetung02 last time I checked it did - I'll check again this weekend. basically how it works is that removing an arthropod's limbs one must kill it, therefore every time you remove the legs your character is awarded exp and a kill towards the bug stomper challenge

OK I tryed this many times and played games for a few hours each, and every time some, but not all of the perks weren't working, even thought I picked them the first time I levelled to max. So I prefer to use this glitch to get to max level, because that way at least I know which perks are definetly going to work.

here are some tips

complete the tutorial quest

bring the laser(absulutely necessary) spend the 50 caps on 2 dinamites if they are there

search for a power ganger he will have a shotgun and more 2 dinamites

drink all the water to save the food and healing items to fight against the scorpion just 2 hits and youre dead!

use the dinamites as if they were mines that way you will criple the legs and do a ton of damage, victor helps

Great video was doing it a different way but this is so much faster only had one problem and it was quite funny when i got the scorpion to come after me there was 5-6 more spawning next to him so i had about 5 scorpions trying to kill me at once had to reload a save. Thanks again for the video

There are unowned boxes towards the back so you don't have to worry about the Goodsprings NPCs going aggro. I put them by the workbenches to sort my spare gear until I hit Novac.

If you have Dead Money, the DM perks Light Touch and Junk Rounds will stay for level 2 and 4 after you leave Goodsprings. Just be sure to Tag repair and raise the stat to 45 by level 2.

You wont keep level 2 and 4 perks but from level 6 on you can keep any perk you take except those that needs a higher special stats than the ones you start with

@blakebutters1 You said no patches there....that's the problem. To be clear, to get this glitch to work, you need to patch to at least 1.2 (xbox 360). Just to be safe, just download the newest patch that's available. It still works with that one.

But the point is that you actually NEED the patches for this glitch to work, contrary to most glitches.

@SLIPKNOTMAGGOT666Ms it work because removing the legs from the mantis it removes their limbs in game, the only way to remove limbs involves killing the the mantis, however the scripting doesn't specify mantes but rather works with any arthropods and therefore can be used on radscorpions to provide greater amounts of Experience. as for keeping your perks when you leave the start area I have no idea but I love obsidian and Bethesda for it.

@sumfingy You looked it up, it's quite easy to accidentally discover actually, in vault 21 Mantes (that is the correct term - knowing that makes me sadder than knowing the glitch) and some are already dead, therefore it is easy to notice that taking the legs rewards experience, i then noticed that taking legs i gave to Boone to carry gave me experience, curiosity lead me to try on arthropods across the game and the starting zone glitch is well known among wiki readers.

I wasnt to happy with Fallout New Vegas mainly cause. Well In Fallout 3 My guy was Max out Every skill was at a100% and thanks to the level cap being pushed to 30 i got that perk that put all your SPECIAL to level 9. Then i found the bobble head vul Teck. any All SPECIAL were lvl 10. You cant maxout your guy. But you can get 7 skill to 100% and a few more above 50 if you do every thing righ. This is without Dead money DLC. With Dead money you should get 28 more skillpoint if my math is right

@TheBeastlyplayback Same here, the foreleg glitch works fine but when leaving the start area, it just keeps you at level 30 instead of resetting your level for the extra perks glitch to work. I have all the latest patches for New Vegas but I do not have Dead money installed.. My money is on this being why. Can anyone confirm?

@linkn4eva Figured out what I was doing wrong (I think?). Once you leave the starting area, seems you HAVE to edit your character again (rebuilding special and such) and then choose continue onwards. If you just choose continue onwards without, it won't reset you back to level 2 and will just keep you at the level you are at.

Also, you can turn use laser weps safely, Turning it to ash will not effect it.
