Great demo bro, not what I'm looking for, after more of that one trick pony Orange amp growl, but this amp seems very usable....way more versatile than Orange.
Just got my ESP Edwards 92 CD Black Beauty. The guitar live up to it's reputation. Great tone and quality. At $899 plus shipping, it's worth every penny. Since we can't try out these guitars at your local guitar center, videos like these help with my decision . Thanks!
Is this a good and versatile amp for the beatles , bb king , led zeppelin , guns n roses , skid row , pearl jam , soundgarden , the ramones kind of stuff ?
How loud did you play on this demo? It seems to be really low - cranking it up a bit will make it sound a bit thicker and more compressed (of course depending on the EQ settings you're at). Some don't like it, but I think it sounds good. On this vid it just sounds thin and doesn't have much balls to it. Even with low gain (9 o'clockish) I've got it sound more ballsy. But the cleans are just gorgeous, even if you didn't like the distortion/overdrive.
Great Demo vid! I played Marshall for 20 years, but this combo changed the way I thought about things...love mine! I use a Les Paul direct into this thing...and maybe sometimes a Dime Custom Crybaby, and nothing else! It's great!
Great amp! Gots me one. Used to be a Marshall guy for 20 years (stacks and combos) This one has the tone in one compact package...dont need nothing else.
This video cant even show you how bassy this combo can be, especially when U set it on the floor and get that coupling effect.
Thanks for this demo. I'm amp shopping right now and these types of YouTube demos help when I can't find the amp locally to try it out in person. Your song selection (and guitar) are very similar to my tastes so it was a helpful demo.
Hey man I left a comment on this video about a month ago and it was about the price of the amp, at the music store out herete price was lowered from around $1500 ish to $1200. I am planning on getting it after I pay off my guitar right now and selling my Line-6 75 watt for it. If you were looking to buy a used model of the amp I have, how much would you think is reasonable for it? Thanks.
if we're all talking about the H&K in this video (I'm not sure we are...) 350-450 would be a reasonable price depending on whether it's new or not. but they can be had for 350 new if you get lucky.
I own this amp and it's very versatile. Clean channel is clean. Other channel is unbelievable loud for a combo amp. Aggressive tight overdrive. I have Fender Blues Deluxe and it can keep up with it easily. This amp is not available widely. Great value if you can find one
this amp is the anniversary tube edition I think this one is under $1000 (Can). I have the Statesman Quad EL84 which sells for about $1400 (Can) and that thing is amazing!!! you should really look at one of these amps
I think it can, I do not play Metalicca, but it is a great versatile amp, with his strenght his clean, but also the drive is good, but it needs a bit of figuring out the right ammount of vulome etc, but wow :D!
Hey man. GREAT DEMO AND GREAT CHOPS!! IT was very informative. I might get this. I Have a noise gate, ISP Decimator, would it be beneficial? Also, does it come with a foot switch? If not, do you have to use a H&K one? THANKS SO MUCH! YOU ROCK!!!! :D
Save your money, I have a used one I'll sell you..... this amps gain is so high that it is complete unusable to me. When this guy is play with OD, the gain knob is at like 2 or 3 anything past that is in the super sonic range and cannot be heard by humans. The clean channel is very good but beyond that I think that Hughes & kettner should be ashamed of this amp
Ever try using a guitar with vintage pups or low DC resistance with it? High gain amps sound great with low output pups. If you want to go el cheapo, I'd recommend Rockfield, they have some sweet sounding vintage pups over there. I like the SWC.
Hey, using some flanger or another effects at the end of the video?it sounds amazing, just like van halen hahaha, i'm looking for a 25th anniversary but i'm not sure if it sounds like the 20th...
@SodiumMonkey: Yes, it's basically the same amp, but the 20th anniversary has another speaker (Eminence RockDriver Cream 1x12" i think) and the 25th anniversary kicks ur ass with a Celestion G12T-100! Me, I prefer the 20year one, it's more bluesy and simply yeah! Love this amp!
I bought one of these amps used from GC and I really liked it, then after about a month something went microphonic...and it wasn't the tubes. (When I played a G it would distort and rattle) Has anyone else dealt with this or heard of it happening?? Suggestions??
They took it back but and are gave me my money back, once they fix it the will let me know so I can buy it back again but that could take months.
they are discontinued, but there is a new 25th anniversary edition tube that is basically the same amp as far as i know. you can get these 20th anniversary editions used for like $400. i believe the 25th anniversary are only like $600 or so new.
That thing should slaughter the cube for tone. I have owned a cube for a short time, you should should get the huges if its a good offer, even if not as it will be al;ot better than the roland.
Nice playing man. Your guitar and amp both sound amazing. I am planning to get a hughes and kettner statesman dual el84. Is this 20th anniversary different from it. If it is different, do you have any experience with statesman series?
this amp rocks. i have played out with it for the past two years. nothing but excellent reviews from sound engineers and fellow guitar players. when players sit in and get a chance to play this amp, they are floored by the sound it produces. the only downside is the power tubes are right next to the speaker cone, and the pins in the tube jacks vibrate loose. i have to replace the tube jacks every six months.... but the tone is worth every penny.
Thanks. The reason I didn't like this amp that much is that the distortion is a little too rounded - I was unable to get a good palm mute chunk. Sounds great for solo work, though.
@hwaug2 I'm sure you can get a great distortion if you put a good EQ in the effect loop. People often underestimate its importance. I use a MXR M108 (8 bands, volume, gain, true bypass) with my Vox amp and I don't even need an OD pedal. You can get a very wide range of sounds and use it as a boost too. Give it a try, you'll never look back!
There's a massive difference between the 20th Anniversary Tube and the non-tube Edition Blue 20W; they're both good amps, but the Edition Blue is totally solid state and everything that that involves; up to you.
Damn that staggered stimulus check scheduling! If I'm lucky, I'll find one at a Guitar Center around here or one of their direct dealers. Here's hoping that I don't spend more on gas than I do for the amp!

Absolutely, though the knobs are a iittle touchy, so it can be either too loud or quiet when you're playing to a stereo - hard to tune in the middle ground.
I almost bought this. The big turn-off to me was how fast the EL84 power tube broke up. It just got kind of mushy and was too soon IMO for modern rock/metal. Otherwise this was one of the few tube amps I really liked.
Awesome. I just got an Edwards LP myself. Cherry Sunburst. Played today with it at a little church thing and I can say that I am not 100% confident playing it just yet. Got to learn how to control the volume and stuff. I am use to a Strat.

I love the Edwards, I'd put mine up against any Gibson LP Studio or Standard.
As for the Agile, I liked the bridge pickup, but the neck was a little muddy. Drop in a PAF clone like the SD '59 and I'm sure it'd sound great.
