  • I've race the vvti 1j for over 7 years. Standard redline 7200. On the dyno it hits 7200 so hard it is still going straight up! 16psi does the ceramic turbo. I just made a t3 adaptor plate, instant cheap turbo fix. Only add on is a fuel cut defender, (open exhaust, it is a race car) once had wastgate not working at all, but got 4 months work at 26-35psi pinging it's nut off, but spark plug failure stopped it. For the street it is the ONLY engine I would ever convert to!

  • @simplydunham good info...

  • @simplydunham Do you mean ceramic bearing turbo???? With ceramic wheel Turbo's at those boost levels you'd pretty soon find the impeller in your exhaust somewhere!

  • @vrednie Yes it is the ceramic wheel that does indeed dissappear out the exhaust somewhere with no mufflers at all. If I still had one I wouldn't really turn it up at all now I've worked out that they do die. And I don't think they are readily rebuildable?

  • @simplydunham Steel (etc) impeller's are definitely the way to go

  • wow you did a super grate job with the swap it practicly looks like it came factory in your car and yeah im having same problem with my speedo and redline on my swap i got a 1jz in my 240 its super responsive soon out with the twins and in with the massive gt35r and cams and more! jz all the way!!!!!

  • only thing i would do is get the turbo highflowed and steelwheeled, as the ceramic factory wheel is a weak point on these... with the highflow you should see 280 rwkw

  • This a very unique swap as the VQ is a great engine and replacing it seems slightly odd but very interesting indeed.

Great to see some ingenuity out there.

    I like it!

  • Why a 1jz? It just seem like a step back. Why not sr20det and stay Nissan? Or even better drop in a LSx-best bang for buck.

  • @BandAid350z and sr doesnt compare as good as 1j i raced a build sr20 240sx with my stock 1jz 240sx and we were like even i love sr but a jz is definantly not a step back

  • @BandAid350z coz the 1jz is way WAY more reliable than a SR. valvetrain problems? yeh 1jz doesnt have that

  • Lol it looks like it just came off the assembly line, very clean swap

  • Why not just turbo the 350Z motor? 1jz = massive massive downgrade

  • @misterlith not really a downgrade, it's a good motor, and probably way faster than the stock z engine would be. plus it's fun to do things differently.

  • @ppebpeeb Absolutely the 1JZ is a good motor, but the VQ35 is a bigger, new, better motor. 40% bigger, lighter, and makes similar power to a stock 1JZGTE... without a turbo. Turbocharge the VQ35 = win, even on stock internals :D

  • @misterlith I think I would go for the same swap or do an RB series. One advantage his has over the VQ is that the 1jz is already turbo'd from factory so no need for forged pistons; just uprated turbine and set up ;). Nice swap btw.

  • @misterlith VQs arent reliable compared to a 1jz, turboed VQ's i mean.

  • @BlackxHeartxBlood What is the weakness you have experienced with a VQ?

  • @misterlith My friend has a 350z twin turbo, hes on his 3rd engine.

  • where did you find a down pipe?

  • PEFRECT ENGINE PERFECT CAR...

  • sigh

  • nice

  • How hard as this to wire up, did you use stranded ecu?

Also, what was this engine out of?

  • That thing sounds shitted and out of tune. U should be ashamed of yourself!

Its criminal to have such an awesome engine and not have it running properly.

Ditch the TT setup and go for a single 3076r.

  • @marek0086 the VVTI is a single Turbo....noob

  • @MARooNSUPRaMK3~ Ye thats right. I actually knew that... but forgot. o_O

  • @MARooNSUPRaMK3~ ... 3076r FTW!!!

  • is this DD capable now? what are you putting down as in #'s id like to do this someday, Any problems with the swap now?

  • My question is, How do you pass inspection? Last I recall, the 1J didn't come with an OBD2 compliant computer, there wasn't any company that made one for any car besides OEM, and removing said computer would make the car uninspectable and was completely illegal in every state in the US. I'm an inspector, and I do know a few ways around some things, but not that.

  • @speed284504

I mean, alot of states don't inspect cars, so...

  • @speed284504

simply buy and inspection sticker off the street lol

  • Is you ic piping all silicone hoses? If so where did you buy them?

  • why is the toyota symbol on the engine

  • @MrMrBonehead Because it's a toyota engine. lol.

  • its not a blow off valve, its a bypass valve

  • why a smaller motor 2.5 ?

  • how much have you put into that car money wise?

  • why did you choose the toyota engine instead of an rb26dett from a skyline? im just wondering because lately i have been looking at engine swaps and i noticed that many people use other brands engines in their cars. are there any complications when you do this?

  • @id786 toyotas vvti 1jz has the same poweras the 26 but more torgue from factory, and is also cheaper to buy, plus do the botom end and u can bolt a 2j str8 to it:)

  • how hard was that

  • i thought the toyota cressida had the 1JZ too?

  • puttin one in my cressida ^_^

  • sweet ride man, keep up the good work, n good luck with it, its a beauty

  • Can you comment on the driving impression from the 1jz vvt-i motor please?

  • to start with is because of the swap i have been unable to drive the car much on the street. On the other hand i love how my car drives. the turbo spools almost instantly and kicks in hard and does not fall off. which leads me to another issue since i have yet to finish up my guages i dont know exactly where it redlines. As far as i know my turbo is one of the best stock turbos to come on any turboed vehicle from the factory.

  • @SkurtnCurt hey im thinking about doing this swap but i been hearing that theres is not that many parts for a 1jz here in the states is this true

  • excuse the newb question, but what kinda car did this motor come out of? by any chance does anyone know who did this installation?

  • it came out of a toyota chaser only made in japan. Tech 2 motorsports and myself did the installation.

  • Did they do the wiring harness also? Any problems with it?

  • ya they did the wiring harness and there werent really any problems except havent gotten the guages to work and the project is currently on hold till i get mo money!

  • Driving impression?

  • Still waiting on my question to be answered about driving impression.

  • fukin sick buddy sick!

  • Wow whats kind of blow off valve are you using? having an air flow meter is it plumbed back?

  • I believe that is a stock BOV

  • It is the stock bov and yes it is recirculated

  • sweet this what the 350Z should of had in the first place, Straight 6 Powaa!!!

  • Awesome motor and you chose a beautiful car to install it in.
