OK...is the first woman in the video Annie Parese? She played an assistant to ADA Jack McKoy on Law and Order for a short while, till her character was murdered. She also played an exotic dancer on an earlier L&O episode. By the way, a great song...every one of Bruce's albums from the 2000's has one or two pop songs with catchy beats and tunes--a nice mix with his longer, spoken poetry songs and the instrumentals.
My husband turned me onto Bruce way back when we first were dating. His lyrics are so beautiful they can bring tears to your eyes and express exactly what the one who loves you is feeling. Wow! What a songwriter!
nice video-i have been touched, healed, soothed and inspired by cockburn's music for 30 years now. Amazing guitar, the best lyrics, simple and complex- for those assigned to write on this vid...how about this as a start : our words/thoughts/reactions support us, define us, constrain us. we get caught up in our constructs and they wind up limiting us. to free ourselves and get to the 'real' of who we are takes honesty, work, and the willingness to trust ourselves and others.
Just wanted to say thanks for the free music. I caught your live concert on cbc a couple weeks ago. So awesome. Check out my playlists for some more good stuff.
Bruce has played guitars manufactured by a number of companies and luthiers over the years. Many early photos show him playing guitars made by the Canadian instrument maker Larrivée. His request for an acoustic with greater access to higher frets led directly to Jean Larrivée's "C" series of guitars.
Bruce has been performing on guitars custom made by Linda Manzer, Bruce also plays a Resolectric guitar model from the National Guitar Company, and a steel-bodied Dobro resonator guitar.
Hey just let it go if you don't like it. I love this little ditty. Not as epic as some of his stuff but I love it."Wondering where the Lyons are" is my all time fav.
You're missing the point. Art is subjective. There may be an original message or meaning to this video, but the point is, no two people sees it the same way. It's subjective. Use your imagination, stopping thinking so hard and let it come to you. You're supposed to FEEL art.
If you haven't experienced life...you will never understand what he is representing. But, since most youth nowadays know everything, it's an assignment you have surely failed. It's not your fault, your given the power without the wisdom. Take a breath, don't be in such a hurry and you'll realize Cockburn is doing something that many of us, young an old, ignore. Think of others first withy the foundation of truth. This "me first world" sucks. Cockburn is just great at what he does.
write an assignment, how sad. i don't know what kind of professor makes someone write an assignment on a Bruce Cockburn music video. course its not hard to understand, a city built on his words is the simplest storytelling imagery i can think of...
P.S: Cockburn is one of the greats, so don't go cockburning yourself
Sounds like you may have had a good prof who actually can understand creativity and what makes good musicianship. He?she tried to open his student eyes a bit but your so deep into your hiphop and gangsta rap that you now can't think beyond jiggling tits and a thumping bass.
The future looks bleak if these are the winners we have coming up.
Looking the posts from those "assigned" to write about this music video, I can certainly understand why you're taking a writing class, you need it. Try starting with getting your spelling and grammer correct first. Then you can move on to deeper stuff, like what the artist is trying to convey in the lyrics.
You won't be as poetic as Bruce, but that's OK, he's been at much longer than most of you worthless tits have been alive. I don't suppose you've ever heard of Joni Mitchell either....LOL.
Wish i could be alive to see what shit you kids will be writing when YOU are 55! Probably something along the lines..."maybe those old cats knew something after all!!"
projectmayem131......That is an extremely ignorant thing to say. Did Bruce assign this to you? Oh and by the way, brilliant use of his last name. I'm sure nobody has heard that before. How did you ever think of that? You're very creative.
first time I saw Bruce Cockburn I was in College and half the music class of Capilano C. was there ,everyone was trying to figure out how he strummed picked and did lead at the same time I was just so thankful for the sound it was heaven sent ....how does he do that picking thing is it classical?
This man is a musical genius, and nobody writes like him. If you listen to his earlier stuff, he paints pictures with words. And as in this one, the melodies he comes up with are incredible!
I'm a big fan of Colin Hay, and they compared him to Bruce Cockburn. Never heard of him, but I like his material. So, if you like this, check out some Colin Hay songs.
He's so accomplished its hard to say...his music has varied...jazzy, folky, bluesy, Christian themes, strong political themes, international themes...never dull. I dont anyone that could keep it as fresh for so long. I like stuff on all his CD's. Try Breakfast in New Orleans Dinner in Timbucktoo, an earlier one like Dancing in the Dragons Jaws, or his latest Life Short Call Now
I think Dancing in the Dragons Jaws is Bruce's best album. I remember him playing "Creation Dream" at a concert in Chatham, Ontario back in 1990 w/ pianist Jon Goldsmith...it rocked!
I totally agree...I've been listening to Cockburn for decades, and I just find his stuff since the World of Wonders album sooo dissapointing. Don't get me wrong, he's still my favourite singer/songwriter/musician of all time...but...I just wish he'd do similar stuff to the stuff he did in the 70's and 80's. He does so much "talking" in songs rather than singing. He still has a good voice. I miss Hugh Marsh's violin on his stuff too.
Mr.Cockburn is looking pretty good for trailing so many songs over the years ...Uh I am not studying at Windsor I am studying at home ...Then I go out into the real world and I am really studying ,nice song always honest ....
meh, I can take it or leave it, not a big fan of this kind of music lol. oh, and i just finished doing this assignment so you're not alone rankin lmao

Check me out here, gushing and melting... this is the most romantic song I've heard in a long time... extremely sexy!
I'm madly in love this verse:
"I don't want to go home tonight
I wanna turn loose my lust
I want you to squeeze me tight
Do the things that we discussed
I'll be my broken self
The zero hidden from your view
I don't usually do that
But it's different when it comes to you"
