this was definitely the best football the nittany lions have played in a long time against michigan state. all the other victories of the 2008 season were nice, but this was definitely the sweetest of them all because they played to the maximum of their ability and it put penn state back where they belong as big ten champions. the team did everything they had to and it was clicking on all cylinders the entire day. way to finish out on top state!!!
What made this even better was that it was against a Michigan State team that reminded me a lot of their 1997 team that ran up the score on Penn State. This game also was nowhere near as close as the score, it was 35-7 before the backups came in and 49-7 before the fourth and fifth string team came in.
And despite what USC fans may say, our late comeback was genuine. But two late picks finished us off. At least we gave them a game and didn't get blown out.
Royster's injury early in the game wasn't a good sign as to how the day was going to go. They played alot better in the 2nd half, but just couldn't do it.
It's a shame, too, since we were two plays away from going 38-38 into overtime. Even though the Big 10 went 1-6 in bowls, many losses were close (all but Wisky and Minnesota, although I guess a 14 point loss isn't close), kind of like Illinois in 2006 was better not in wins but performance, but they couldn't finish anyone off. I see good things in 2009. Now if we can get a rematch with USC and win, that'd be great. 2009 is shaping up to be a good season based on the returning players.
I think that it's quite possible, even likely. But Penn State must go undefeated and either Temple or Syracuse needs to miraculously improve. But then again, a lot of top teams like Texas and Texas Tech had a joke of an OOC schedule.
I hear this nonsense almost every year. Show me a team in college football that doesn't schedule "patty-cake" teams to tune-up on before their conference schedule? Stop acting like PSU is the only one.
Looks good for us, USC is expecting 2006 Michigan who had poor pass defense (remember Paul Cianciolo torching them?), 2007 Illinois who had no business in the Rose Bowl, and a badly ailing 2008 Ohio State who was a different team before the MSU blowout. PSU comes in hungry. I think it'll go back and forth, and these teams may be the best in the nation (as far as I'm concerned the Rose Bowl is the true NCG this year), since I'm not sold on Florida or Oklahoma.
@jamare456 Thanks for telling me two and a half years later. Can you tell me who won the 2008 Presidential election? I also heard they're thinking of adding a 12th team to the Big Ten, but that's a load of rubbish.
@jamare456 On a more serious note, Michigan State had a pretty good year last year. I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan State was a contendor again this year. Especially if you guys can upset Ohio State.

Too bad we lost! We had a lot of penalties in the game! At least we showed our Penn State pride in the end of the game.
