I don't mean to offend anyone but. White people introduced backs to the blues, all music for that matter. When they first arrived in America they did not speak the language and could not read or write music. This was all taught by the white people. Their ancestors never sang or played the blues never even wrote music. Go Janis.
@lulubelleish are you serious???? music comes from the heart! are you suggesting nobody played music before sheet music,??? Or even worse, that nobody made any sound before white amercan settlers said so???what about amazing tribal and native music. "i dont mean to offend" but your a fucking idiot.
ill say it again!! Janis was NOT a Lesbian!! STOP the bullshit people. Alice Echols book is a load of feminist propaganda. An insult to feminism. Janis was Janis. Not a dyke. Not a loser. Just did whatever she wanted to do...and we cant all do that now can we?? Nope. LOOVE youu Janis

She was a bisexual or a lesbein? Not that it makes any difference. She was a great and talented woman, but I didn't know she'd had women lovers. Good for her for overcoming her obstacles and rising way beyond what anybody had ever expected of her. If only she could've also found peace within herself and happiness.
@TheThingsLaurenLoved They did, they actually made a lot of mistakes. Probably to sell it... they wanted scandal. But yeah, this is very inaccurate. I've read many, many biographies on her, and this is far-fetched.
I've heard many people say that by the time Janis was getting major media exposure her voice and performance style was ruined by the horse and drink. Imagine what she had sounded like before the industry stuffed her in it's mouth and started chewing?
Yea you know I've heard my whole life Janis Joplin was ugly wasn't sexy, bs she exuded sexuality, I would've dated her in a friggin New York minute like kristoferson. No doubt about it! I would've been her friend and lover.
@nat00ben06 Janis was a great example of someone who exuded sex appeal through her charisma, presence, and personality, rather than through her looks.
IT SHOULDENT BE A WHITE OR BLACK THING BUT IN THIS WORLD IT IS BUT AS FOR ME I LOOOOOOOVE MUSIC AND MIS JOPLIN MADE ANGEL MUSIC FOR THE SOUL CAUSE SHE SINGS TO MINES
I could be insane, BUT that girl from American Idol.. "BowerSox" I think thats her last name, Looks like her, and actually could play her...what do u guys think??....to bad she didn't major in theatre or a movie star...But hey, that girl from american Idol won the OSCAR for playing that horrible movie "Dreamgirls" Man, even mentioning it I'm dumbfounded how she won that oscar!!! SHIT!! Anyways BowerSox has that Fire...
This episode was merely a set-up to sell Alice Echols bullshit book. If youve read it and hated it youll understand. But it does include interesting info about those times and some things about Janis that no one probably knew. ...and Im not talkin about her so-called "lesbian" affairs. Janis was not a lesbian. Alice Echols is fulla shit.
they said her desire was to become a star... no... her desire was to sing and make music and get down. she just happened to become a star by doing what she loved.
what does remembering the 60's and not being there have to do with anything. I remember the late 60's vietnam hendrix dieing j. morrison and many others.I never made it to california too young but kept up with the music and every thing else.To live there meant living on the street not working and getting high. Im just glad i survived the excesses of the time. One liver transplant and family make you appreciate life .period.Now we have all this great music our foundation of life.Dont judgejustlive
no one will believe me on this but one of my teachers, his father acctully worked with janis before she was famous and he met her when he was a kid,she wouldstay over ,i couldnt believe myself when i heard it ,im so jealous
@yfset8 I believe you. Wow. Very cool. Ferlin Huskey ( classic country singer ,,,guy,,,,person) is my 3rd / 4th cousin. But nobody would believe that so I dont talk about it much. People are weird but I believe your story. Thanks for sharing. Wish I knew her.
@yfset8 Awww Youre welcome. And i believe ya. =) When I was 13 or 14 years old I would straighten my hair and wear the hippie clothes and try to get that look goin on. Worked I guess. People assumed I was a stoner hahaha! I wasnt tryin to be a clone but .. Janis is so fun. Shes a big inspiration for so many people. Especially bored, broke, outcast little girls who want to feel pretty and have fun.
its crazy how she died in the same year and was just as old as hendrix. except contrary to the accepted story of his death, he was actually killed. shit maybe she was too
Peggy who ? Oh yeah that's right me me me me ! I'm broke doing all those drugs , now i need money ! No class no conscience no privacy just i need the attention me me me !
These are the people who loved her? When people die their private business should die with them instead of their so called friends writing books about it or being paid to show up on tv shows to share it with the public. Kris, I don't care how many times you've had sex with Janis Joplin. I'm sure since now that you're an old man you need to let others know that you were once a young man. In the mean time no one cares.
She was genuine and naive in the best sense of that word, and actually worked hard: putting everything she had into her work. I wish she had done so more out of joy and less out of desperation. Without transcendence, it is all the same bleeping day, man. I pray you transcended Janis. G od can hear and be heard even through the static of misery and see and be seen through the fog and haze of drugs and alcohol. Mercy to her and to all of us: needing love and lovability.
why are folks in Port Arthur nobodies: are there now war heroes, sacrificial loving parents, kindhearted employers, inspiring autistic children, in Port Arthur Texas? if you went to SF, does that make you a somebody, or if you die young after making money for other by unwittingly signing away your legal rights to your own talent, does that make you a somebody? I love Janis. She would have been a somebody anywhere she lived doing anything she chose. We all are nobodies; each of us is somebody.
she fucked men but think she was happier and more at ease with women. Have read a few bio's but like so many talented individuals had too many demons to wrestle and paid the price for her genius.
what the fuck is that supposed to mean anyways/? "singing like a black girl" aside from being racial.. how about NO ONE has ever sang like her ever. shes a one and only artist! no white or black compares to her
@jokr33114 To that "singing like a black girl", I think Janis might respond that she just sang like HERSELF. Talented people like Janis don't care about labels and mostly don't like them.
Janis was so awsome..She always has and always will be my main Idol in music..I saw her movie "Janis"..Just makes me cry when I hear of the pain she went through in her hometown..PEACE,LOVE,LAUGHTER,AND LOVE TO YOU ALL...REST IN PEACE JANIS...
Janis was something else in a good way she was so talented even though it was before I was born I love to watch clips of her she had soul like no one else she was true rock & R&B!
her and jimi made love? man can you imagine if they would've had a child together? that would've been perfect a child of the rock n roll legends, the amount of talent that kid would've had, hendrix and joplin weren't enough they died too soon, imagine how a kid of theirs would've followed their footsteps in music, that would've been something beautiful.
I agree. Peggy Caserta didn't love janis at all, and wasn't there for her the way she should have been...stood janis up the night janis died alone in her room.
I know it must be an unlucky number age for rockstars, which is just odd or maybe it's an curse, who knows, but the world lost talent that way so early and hard to imitate.(:-__ -:)
@brucekirk89 Though I appreciate what you're saying, I (born in 1980) will never say that I was born too late or that I "missed out" - I believe we are all born at the right time. I live in Woodstock and there is this vibe in the town with the older generation that if you weren't "There," and if you're young, you just don't count for shit. This is especially true with music, and as a musician of Today making and listening to good music, I resent that philosophy.
sorry but she did sing like a black girl..u know why...because black americans invented rock n' roll...rock n' roll traces its foundation directly back to the blues & jazz. that's why the rock of the 60's sounded more like the blues than the rock of today which is quite different...& by the way even the rock set up (of drummer, two guitarists, piano) comes from the blues & jazz
give credit where due...rock n' roll was invented by black americans comin from honest white person
@Tennymon You are so right! she did sound like she was black. Most thought Elvis was black the first time they heard him on the radio too. To be able to have that bluesy soulful sound was a great thing. Listen to Joe Cocker, Bruce Springsteen, and even Rod Stewart (in his early days with the Faces). Rod Stewart said in an interview that he tried hard to sound black. Nirvana and Blind Melon were both inspired by blues singers like Ledbelly. By the way I am a white person too. :)
@aryounger: You tell me what black artist of the time sounded, looked and danced like Elvis or what black artist did Elvis sound, look or dance like?? LOL. NOT ONE that I can think of! I'm so sick of the White/Black shit! Rock-N-Roll is a collaboration of boogie woogie, jazz, country, gospel and blues melded into one, and both white and black people are to be credited for the sound. Janis had her own sound. She was a mixture of rock, folk and blues. Who cares what color an artist is...
@jamesjdb You need to read your music history! Everyone thought Elvis was black when they heard him on the radio not everyone had TV's in the 50's. You are correct Rock-N-Roll is a collaboration and the styles of music you listed were started with the blacks. Ask any true rock artist and they will tell you that most of the music we listen to today comes from the black heritage. If you read any history on Janis Joplin or Elvis you would know that they give credit to the black musicians.
@aryounger: I agree to disagree! Not everyone thought Elvis was Black! You can read all you want about music! Reading is anothers OPINION! Listening is the KEY! Question? Can you tell me, JUST ONE BLACK or WHITE Singer that Elvis or Janis sounded like? LOL.. I'll wait! LOL.. Quote By Jackie Wilson: I've never heard or saw any other black artist that sounded, danced and especially looked like ELVIS!
And if it wasn't for Beethoven we wouldn't have had the 5th or the 6th..
@aryounger: Elvis gave credit to everyone, white and black! He's quoted as saying many times that he believed R-N-R derived from Country, Blues,Gospell and Boogie Woogie. Where I am getting at is, I'm sick and tired of the BIAS SHIT TALK about music! Everyone deserves Credit! The Italians for inventing THE TRUE SIX STRING GUITAR, PIANO and CELLO/BASS! The Chinese for inventing the Cymbal and Tom Tom! The English for inventing the Snare Drum and the French for the Horn. Without these? NO MUSIC!
@aryounger: In addition? We must NEVER FORGET about Adolph RickenBacher, Les Paul and Leo Fender for the solid body electric guitars and Leo Fender for the Electric BASS too! And Les Paul for mastering the overdubbing, delay effects and phasing effects recording process, and Phil Spectors for Wall Of Sound! All of which are still used in music today (except for rarely the Rickenbacher, LOL). I can go ON and ON!
Now who needs to read about music history or especially listen to music? LOL..
@jamesjdb I never said he looked like he was black! I said that people thought he was black BEFORE they saw him!!! I am so happy you know where instruments were invented. Did you ever see Elvis in concert? I saw him on his last tour before he died and he talked about the radio stations refusing to play his songs in the beginning because they thought he was black. Boogie Woogie, Blues, and Jazz originated with the blacks. He also loved to listen to Southern Black Gospel as he called it.
@aryounger:You Said: "EVERYONE thought he was black when they first heard him on the radio" LOL.Not EVERYONE thought he was black. And not STATIONS banned his music. I think the best way to determine the style of music and vocals is to LISTEN. Elvis DID NOT sound like any black artist of the time. That's why it amazes me that SOME thought he was black. When you boil it down, our music weather it be folk, gospel, blue grass, jazz, boogie woogie, blues or RNR, it all derived from Country music.
@aryounger: Believe it or not, Country music was a colaboration of both white and black people too. White nor Black people should be SOLEY credited for the music today. Both White and Black should be credited, along with many other races also. Music is NOT a White/Black thing! I hate when people bring that into it too! Music is a collaboration of ALL PEOPLE if you think about it. YES, I saw Elvis at the Cow Palace in '76 when I was a little kid. My Pops took me. He was AWESOME! : )
@jamesjdb I agree about music shouldn't be black or white. You should also agree that MOST of the music that we listen to today comes from the blues and the blues came from the slaves. Spiritals and jubilee was what the slaves started which later turned into blues. The blues started in the late 1800's b4 jazz or country. The first song he recorded was That's Alright Mama a blues song by Cudrup. When he was interviewed on the radio he was asked what highschool he went to so to say he was white.
@aryounger: The orgins of Country/Old Time Music derived from "Folk Lore Music" and dates back to the EARLY 1840's, way before blues music came into existence. The slaves "SANG/HUMMED" field hollers, shouts and chants, which later evolved into actual music. But Folk Lore/Old TIme was around way before blues music. Main intrustments were fiddle/Guitar and Jew/Jaw Harp, bascially what we call deep twang sound. Folk Lore/Old Time is the precursor to the music we listen to today. Just a fact : )
@jamesjdb He was banned from radio stations that did not use a open format. They said his music was from the devil. A DJ in Oregon was fired for playing his music. This was all during segregation. Sam Phillips was looking for white singer that sounded black when Elvis came to him, he wanted to mix the two sounds. Maybe I can clarify by saying when everyone heard Elvis on the radio in 1954 they thought he was black because he had a black SOUND. He did not sound like a white singer.
@aryounger: Elvis was mainly banned from (Southern) stations. He WAS NOT banned from all stations. There you go again! TELL ME PLEASE? What Black artist did Elvis sound like? LOL.I'll answer, NONE! And Sam Phillips was a dumbass IMO! Anyone that would let go a multi million dollar raw talent is stupid! He wasn't even a musician for gods sake! And please go LISTEN to A.C. version of "That's Alright Mama" and then listen to Elvis' version! Night and Day! Elvis inverted country into the song.
@aryounger: Funny how you don't mention side B of the "That's Alright" recording, which was "Blue Moon of Kentucky" which was a Country song Elvis rocked a bit. After those two recordings Elvis was nick named
The Hillbilly Cat for his melding of Country/Blues, Rockabilly sound. I'm still waiting for you to tell me what Black artist, or White artist for that matter, Elvis and his band sounded like of the time????? LOL..
@jamesjdb HE DID NOT SOUND LIKE ANYONE IN PARTICULAR! WHITE OR BLACK. I AM GOING TO SAY IT ONE MORE TIME.........BEFORE ANYONE EVER SAW HIM WITH THEIR EYES THEY ASSUMED HE WAS BLACK BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE SOUND. Whites did not sing black music back then. He was the first. I am sorry that you do not have the ability to understand this concept. I changed my mind. Do not let me know because this is my last post on this subject.
@aryounger: You don't have to get so bent! LOL.I said in one of my postings (I agree to disagree) with you. Obvoiusly you don't understand what that means. From interviews that I've seen, NOT EVERYONE thought he was Black when they first HEARD HIS MUSIC. And your case holds NO Water sorry to say! When he in fact recorded a Country Song on the B side of That's Alright that was played on the radio too. His sound DID NOT sound like any Black artist of the time. His sound was raw, edgy and different.
@jamesjdb Excuse me but Elvis was from the South! I don't believe Oregon is in the South. You said Elvis was not banned from any radio stations. Hmm? I have listened to both versions I didn't say they were alike. Elvis made every song he covered his own. Elvis created the rockabilly sound. You are too closed minded to understand anything I am trying to say and you are too much of an arrogant child to discuss this any further. I could keep arguing this but I don't have time for immaturity.
@aryounger: I did not say Elvis WAS NOT BANNED from any radio stations. Please read what I write. I said Elvis was mainly banned from Southern Stations, but was not banned from All Stations. It seems you have the closed minded, arrogant child problem, not I. Go back and RE-READ all of our postings : ) Especially your post to me where you said ( I need to read my music history! ) LOL..
@jamesjdb You said no stations banned his music. Look back at what you posted about 2 weeks ago that starts.... You said everyone thought he was. I didn't say all stations banned him. I did reread and I said Everyone thought he was black when they first heard him on the radio.
@aryounger: Well with all due respect? You're a spinner! LOL.. I did not say NO STATIONS, I in fact said (2 weeks ago) Elvis was mainly banned from (Southern) stations. He WAS NOT banned from all stations.
The post you read form (2 weeks ago) had a typo! I would have firgured you would be bright enough to figure that out. LOL.. Here's that post; "'' And not STATIONS banned his music.""" I forgot to type the word (ALL) in the sentence. Apparently you didn't read.. LOL..
@Tennymon: I totally agree to disagree :) Rock-N-Roll was created by both White and Black people. Folklore/Old Time, Country, Honky Tonk, Blues, Blue Grass, gospell, Jazz, Swing, Boogie Woogie and Big Band were all spawns of Rock. In fact many races are resposible for all music actually. You have to have the insruments to make the music to begin with... LOL.. And without Beethoven's 5th and 6th, we all would kind of be lost..
@jamesjdb Blacks laid the foundation for Rock 'n Roll (jungle beat, blues guitar, showmanship, etc). Southern whites at first denounced Rock as ''nigger" and ''race records'', so how the hell can whites invent Rock, when they were the first to denounce it?
@publicatdamagnificen: In addition? You can't blame all whites for the ignorance of other whites, and the same goes for blacks or any other race for that matter. That's like saying all whites are KLAN or all blacks are Panthers. That's ignorant in itself. Sure SOME radio stations all over the country banned RNR music, but many aired RNR also. It's funny though, how most concerts and dance halls were sold out all over the country for RNR shows of the time. I do believe white people were there. LOL
@jamesjdb with all due respect you can feel however you want, but in reality my friend. rock music originated from the blues which was created by black folks. i'm not saying white people aren't responsible for some music out there, but the blues and rock we do have those blacks in the past to thank. my major is music to be a music teacher, i think you get your facts from unreliable sources though, or maybe its just your opinion, who knows im just telling you the truth.
@publicatdamagnificen: With all due respect? You sound very uneducated musically and quite ignorant. You have no back-up or refferences, which doesn't surprise me either! : ) Some education for you? And please, go check it out for yourself from "REPUTABLE" sources; Rock-N-Roll derived from many different forms/types of music. And you really need to READ properly! I never said WHITES invented RNR. I said RNR was a collaboration of Whites AND Blacks, among other ehtnicities too.
@jamesjdb IGNORANT JACKASS! Blacks are the foundation of Rock n Roll. You are an illiterate inbred asshole who is totally ignorant of the roots of rock (Delta Blues, Chicago Blues, St Louis Blues, Memphis Blues, etc.
This is where rock started. You are the ignorant one- Not me!!
Kurt Cobain intentionaly killed himself at the age of 27. For years he said that he wanted to be a member of the 27 Club. The only TRUE members of the 27 Club were, of course, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin.
genericgeorge: You are so right - how silly of me, I was getting carried away - Buddy Holly died at 27? Yes that was jut WRONG! hang my head in trivia shame :-(but Jones was 27? b.28/02/42 d.3/06/69) if thi is bad nt data, please let me know. ttfn
I'm not sure on this one. I just read A Stones book that says he was born in 1944 which makes him 25 , however on Wiki it states 1942 which would make him 27 at the time he died. Most sites online say 1942 so I'll go with that and makes you right.

and her hair was down. I still like hippy girls.

I remember the late 60's vietnam hendrix dieing j. morrison and many others.I never made it to california too young but kept up with the music and every thing else.To live there meant living on the street not working and getting high.

Tennymon 1 year ago 3
@Tennymon You are so right! she did sound like she was black. Most thought Elvis was black the first time they heard him on the radio too. To be able to have that bluesy soulful sound was a great thing. Listen to Joe Cocker, Bruce Springsteen, and even Rod Stewart (in his early days with the Faces). Rod Stewart said in an interview that he tried hard to sound black. Nirvana and Blind Melon were both inspired by blues singers like Ledbelly. By the way I am a white person too. :)
aryounger 8 months ago
@aryounger: You tell me what black artist of the time sounded, looked and danced like Elvis or what black artist did Elvis sound, look or dance like?? LOL. NOT ONE that I can think of! I'm so sick of the White/Black shit! Rock-N-Roll is a collaboration of boogie woogie, jazz, country, gospel and blues melded into one, and both white and black people are to be credited for the sound. Janis had her own sound. She was a mixture of rock, folk and blues. Who cares what color an artist is...
jamesjdb 7 months ago
@jamesjdb You need to read your music history! Everyone thought Elvis was black when they heard him on the radio not everyone had TV's in the 50's. You are correct Rock-N-Roll is a collaboration and the styles of music you listed were started with the blacks. Ask any true rock artist and they will tell you that most of the music we listen to today comes from the black heritage. If you read any history on Janis Joplin or Elvis you would know that they give credit to the black musicians.
aryounger 7 months ago
@aryounger: I agree to disagree! Not everyone thought Elvis was Black! You can read all you want about music! Reading is anothers OPINION! Listening is the KEY! Question? Can you tell me, JUST ONE BLACK or WHITE Singer that Elvis or Janis sounded like? LOL.. I'll wait! LOL.. Quote By Jackie Wilson: I've never heard or saw any other black artist that sounded, danced and especially looked like ELVIS!
And if it wasn't for Beethoven we wouldn't have had the 5th or the 6th..
jamesjdb 7 months ago
NO MUSIC!
jamesjdb 7 months ago
@aryounger: In addition? We must NEVER FORGET about Adolph RickenBacher, Les Paul and Leo Fender for the solid body electric guitars and Leo Fender for the Electric BASS too! And Les Paul for mastering the overdubbing, delay effects and phasing effects recording process, and Phil Spectors for Wall Of Sound! All of which are still used in music today (except for rarely the Rickenbacher, LOL). I can go ON and ON!
Now who needs to read about music history or especially listen to music? LOL..
jamesjdb 7 months ago
@jamesjdb I never said he looked like he was black! I said that people thought he was black BEFORE they saw him!!! I am so happy you know where instruments were invented. Did you ever see Elvis in concert? I saw him on his last tour before he died and he talked about the radio stations refusing to play his songs in the beginning because they thought he was black. Boogie Woogie, Blues, and Jazz originated with the blacks. He also loved to listen to Southern Black Gospel as he called it.
aryounger 6 months ago
@aryounger:You Said: "EVERYONE thought he was black when they first heard him on the radio" LOL.Not EVERYONE thought he was black. And not STATIONS banned his music. I think the best way to determine the style of music and vocals is to LISTEN. Elvis DID NOT sound like any black artist of the time. That's why it amazes me that SOME thought he was black. When you boil it down, our music weather it be folk, gospel, blue grass, jazz, boogie woogie, blues or RNR, it all derived from Country music.
jamesjdb 6 months ago
@aryounger: Believe it or not, Country music was a colaboration of both white and black people too. White nor Black people should be SOLEY credited for the music today. Both White and Black should be credited, along with many other races also. Music is NOT a White/Black thing! I hate when people bring that into it too! Music is a collaboration of ALL PEOPLE if you think about it. YES, I saw Elvis at the Cow Palace in '76 when I was a little kid. My Pops took me. He was AWESOME! : )
jamesjdb 6 months ago
@jamesjdb I agree about music shouldn't be black or white. You should also agree that MOST of the music that we listen to today comes from the blues and the blues came from the slaves. Spiritals and jubilee was what the slaves started which later turned into blues. The blues started in the late 1800's b4 jazz or country. The first song he recorded was That's Alright Mama a blues song by Cudrup. When he was interviewed on the radio he was asked what highschool he went to so to say he was white.
aryounger 6 months ago
@aryounger: The orgins of Country/Old Time Music derived from "Folk Lore Music" and dates back to the EARLY 1840's, way before blues music came into existence. The slaves "SANG/HUMMED" field hollers, shouts and chants, which later evolved into actual music. But Folk Lore/Old TIme was around way before blues music. Main intrustments were fiddle/Guitar and Jew/Jaw Harp, bascially what we call deep twang sound. Folk Lore/Old Time is the precursor to the music we listen to today. Just a fact : )
jamesjdb 6 months ago
@jamesjdb He was banned from radio stations that did not use a open format. They said his music was from the devil. A DJ in Oregon was fired for playing his music. This was all during segregation. Sam Phillips was looking for white singer that sounded black when Elvis came to him, he wanted to mix the two sounds. Maybe I can clarify by saying when everyone heard Elvis on the radio in 1954 they thought he was black because he had a black SOUND. He did not sound like a white singer.
aryounger 6 months ago
@aryounger: Elvis was mainly banned from (Southern) stations. He WAS NOT banned from all stations. There you go again! TELL ME PLEASE? What Black artist did Elvis sound like? LOL.I'll answer, NONE! And Sam Phillips was a dumbass IMO! Anyone that would let go a multi million dollar raw talent is stupid! He wasn't even a musician for gods sake! And please go LISTEN to A.C. version of "That's Alright Mama" and then listen to Elvis' version! Night and Day! Elvis inverted country into the song.
jamesjdb 6 months ago
@aryounger: Funny how you don't mention side B of the "That's Alright" recording, which was "Blue Moon of Kentucky" which was a Country song Elvis rocked a bit. After those two recordings Elvis was nick named
The Hillbilly Cat for his melding of Country/Blues, Rockabilly sound. I'm still waiting for you to tell me what Black artist, or White artist for that matter, Elvis and his band sounded like of the time????? LOL..
jamesjdb 6 months ago
@jamesjdb HE DID NOT SOUND LIKE ANYONE IN PARTICULAR! WHITE OR BLACK. I AM GOING TO SAY IT ONE MORE TIME.........BEFORE ANYONE EVER SAW HIM WITH THEIR EYES THEY ASSUMED HE WAS BLACK BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE SOUND. Whites did not sing black music back then. He was the first. I am sorry that you do not have the ability to understand this concept. I changed my mind. Do not let me know because this is my last post on this subject.
aryounger 6 months ago
@aryounger: You don't have to get so bent! LOL.I said in one of my postings (I agree to disagree) with you. Obvoiusly you don't understand what that means. From interviews that I've seen, NOT EVERYONE thought he was Black when they first HEARD HIS MUSIC. And your case holds NO Water sorry to say! When he in fact recorded a Country Song on the B side of That's Alright that was played on the radio too. His sound DID NOT sound like any Black artist of the time. His sound was raw, edgy and different.
jamesjdb 6 months ago
@aryounger: I'm going to close by saying "I Agree To Disagree" with you on some subjects and leave it at that!

jamesjdb 6 months ago
@jamesjdb Excuse me but Elvis was from the South! I don't believe Oregon is in the South. You said Elvis was not banned from any radio stations. Hmm? I have listened to both versions I didn't say they were alike. Elvis made every song he covered his own. Elvis created the rockabilly sound. You are too closed minded to understand anything I am trying to say and you are too much of an arrogant child to discuss this any further. I could keep arguing this but I don't have time for immaturity.
aryounger 6 months ago
@aryounger: I did not say Elvis WAS NOT BANNED from any radio stations. Please read what I write. I said Elvis was mainly banned from Southern Stations, but was not banned from All Stations. LOL.. And without Beethoven's 5th and 6th, we all would kind of be lost..
jamesjdb 6 months ago 5
@jamesjdb Blacks laid the foundation for Rock 'n Roll (jungle beat, blues guitar, showmanship, etc). Southern whites at first denounced Rock as ''nigger" and ''race records'', so how the hell can whites invent Rock, when they were the first to denounce it?
publicatdamagnificen 3 months ago
@publicatdamagnificen: In addition? You can't blame all whites for the ignorance of other whites, and the same goes for blacks or any other race for that matter. That's like saying all whites are KLAN or all blacks are Panthers. That's ignorant in itself. Sure SOME radio stations all over the country banned RNR music, but many aired RNR also. It's funny though, how most concerts and dance halls were sold out all over the country for RNR shows of the time. I do believe white people were there. LOL
jamesjdb 2 months ago
@jamesjdb with all due respect you can feel however you want, but in reality my friend. rock music originated from the blues which was created by black folks. i'm not saying white people aren't responsible for some music out there, but the blues and rock we do have those blacks in the past to thank. my major is music to be a music teacher, i think you get your facts from unreliable sources though, or maybe its just your opinion, who knows im just telling you the truth.
