"If only to stop your incessant chattering". Oh my gosh. How can anyone watch this and not laugh at John Candy and Martin Short. These people were just sheer geniuses. I love these skits. This one and the Perry Como one are my absolute favorites, but then there are others that make me laugh
This is so hilarious cuz it seemed like a guy making himself sound so important, then his interviews reveal otherwise lol! The John Candy bit slays me XD
I looked for this specifically because I love that look Brock gives the camera whenever someone is amazed at his knowlege, such as at 1:15. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for this clip. When I first saw it I thought it was just a character he made up, but some years later I saw an interview with Eddie Fisher done by a man named, I think it was Brian Lenahan, who was a British interviewer, who talked in a very similar manner. Short also had a character Irving Cohen, a songwriter, who was based very specifically on the great lyricist Irving Caesar, who co-wrote Swanee and lived to be 101. If you have a clip of Short doing him, I hope you can post it.
@CarlDuke Brian Linehan was Canadian, born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, my hometown, and always interviewed major stars on a Toronto T.V. station (City TV, channel 79 at the time) from 1973-1989. The show was called City Lights. Martin Short (also from Hamilton) portrays him (Linehan) perfectly in my mind.
SCTV was a great show, and I'm so happy to see this and so many other clips that have been posted from this show.
@funnyfokker25 Thanks for the information about Brian Linehan. Seeing that almost everyone on that great show was a Canadian, I guess I should have realized Brian was Canadian also. Interesting that you mention Hamilton. I often listened to a radio station from there AM900 CHML that broadcasts old time radio shows late at night. I also like AM740 from Toronto, though it was much better about two years ago before the format adjustments.
@CarlDuke Brian Linehan was an interviewer on Canadian television - primarily in Toronto, but even I recall him as a kid. You have to remember, SCTV was a Canadian series, and there are several (often obscure) Canadian references.
Brian Linehan was Canadian (he died a few years ago of cancer), I think he and Martin Short were from the same city. Ha, if you ever get a chance to see it, you won't wonder as to why everyone was so keen to leave. Before I get accused of being an elitist, my hometown's so junky that it was constantly ribbed on Kids In The Hall.
Brian Linehan was (is?) Canadian- his show used to be shown on sunday afternoons and it was one of those shows a kid would have to sit thru before Disney came on...
Thanx for uploadin' this. It's on the Season 5(Volume 4) set, but its all butchered with the staff announcer doing all of Brock's voice-overs due to not getting the rights to George Benson's "Off Broadway" theme.

@hebber1961 It didn't help his career any, because people kept thinking of Brock when they watched him. But Linehan and Martin Short became friends.

Candy played a great sounding American Southerner when he had to, like in this clip and in the movie 'JFK'.
