I know how you feel. After one of my finals last year I took it out and smashed it against the dumpster. My projects this year turned out a lot nicer, though I still have the urge to destroy something. If I only had the energy... sigh, 48 hrs on no sleep and counting.
Fuck architecture. I'm quitting. You get paid shit when you graduate, and if you make it big, by then you'll be like 60 years old. The hard work and sleepless weeks are totally not worth the future outcome. You only live once. You only go to college once. Live life to the fullest. Fuck being confined to a fucking studio for weeks on end. I don't even get any satisfaction when I complete something. Every assignment is more like a set of math problems than a creative endeavor. FUCK
I completely understand how you feel. But for this time in my life, it's good for me to put a lot of effort into something to see an outcome. Granted I won't get paid a great amount when I get out, but I'll have a secure career in something I'm interested in. These years in school are something I'm sacrificing, but I still keep in touch with friends and we make the best of the time we have.
It's incredibly fun if you're smart. You won't get paid much, and that was even before the recession. My advice: Get another degree simultaneously if you can; I got a JD alongside the M. Arch, which took 5 years of ridiculous work after college. However, it pays off. With or without commissions, I can still renegotiate building contracts, provide informed legal support for other architects, etc. Just consider something additional; architecture is the most overall demanding thing that I know.
