@peoniesfleur there is an actual research on how Insulin increase IGF-1 hormones, which speed up aging. Yea, you could build bigger muscles wit high Insulin by eating carbs. but after i saw the Study on TED.com this Mercola is spot on. High insulin will increase aging, Low Insulin when you get in fasting, will make you look younger. Google it GUYS: Aging IGF-1, cindy. Id go even further then the vid and say a Low Carb diet will rejuvenate even further! Benefit!
this is why i love youtube more than any other entertainment media. i can listen to PhDs and MDs all day and become wiser and stronger. Thank you, sir!
The main proponent of Intermittent Fasting in the fitness community at the moment is 'Lean Gains' blogger Martin Berkhan. He recommends supplementing with roughly 10g of BCAA prior to a workout - instead of doing it in a completely fasted state. This would equate to roughly 35-40 calories so it does little to 'break the fast' considering that exercise (weight training specifically) is about to be undertaken. Thoughts on this?
@c0n0rH3aN3y Do NOT recommend isolated amino acid supplements. Far healthier to use whole foods or whole food whey concentrates which are loaded in BCAAs.
Dr,,,, thanks for the info. Is intermittent fasting safe for hypoglycemics?? I know many who cannot fast for very long and say their blood sugar gets too low and they feel very tired. Is there a safe way for them to do fasting??? and then the exercising in the fasted state afterwards?
Hey Dr. Mercola, I always have liked you and want to know if you subscribe to the eat 5 smalls meals per day theory- or is it just a food industry scam. Every time I have tried this method, I gain weight, worry and think about food all them time, and am always hungry. It also gave me bad eating habits. But when I eat less and do intermittent fasting, I believe I am looking and feeling my best.
I have done this sort of fasting on and off for years now. I agree it has benefits and it's also a lot easier to exercise on an empty stomach as it puts the body into a mode of "hunter-gatherer".
This is amazing. I'm having my first meal 16.00 and eat three meals between 16-24. And I usually exercise before my first meal, and thats not a problem for me. But I've only done this for two weeks or so.. My question to you mercola is, How can I do this fasting when I'm a vegeterian. I should have 3200 calories per day to work. im 23 years old, 196 cm and 120kg. My goal is 100kg or something. Thanks!
Another thought - many body builders advocate eating 5 or 6 meals a day (or more). This is done to keep blood sugar levels from spiking, but if you intermittently fast and take your post work out shake you should be able to take advantage of the spike in blood sugar levels, forcing protein into your muscles. This could reduce the need for dextrose added to the protein or double the effect.
Dr. Mercola - could you check out buybulkwhey and let me know what you think? I have a limited budget and it's supposed to be pure whey (no fillers or additives).
O don't eat after 6pm and work out every morning with tai chi yoga ropejump bike to gym and weights then smoothie of chia hemp and phytprotein acai pine pollen maca spirulina vit e d3 resveratrol and large salad at mi to late afternoon with tiny snack at 4 or 5.makes me feel splendid.I've been doing for many years and I am feeling youngand strong.food is fuel but also a weapon in the wrong contextual application. Plenty of water is also key.
Hey Dr. Mercola, after a Peak 8 exercise is it alright to drink a quality whey protein powder with raw milk. My roommate doesn't seem to think so because the natural sugar (however minimal) found in both the raw milk and the whey protein will halt HGH production and fat burning. What do you think?
@jpbludeau If you are doing Peak 8 properly and getting your heart rate up to 200-your age you will NOT be hungry so this is a moot question. Biochemically it would be fine to have the protein 20 to 90 minutes after the workout. However would NOT use the raw milk as it will impair the absorption time of the protein.
@mercola Ok I have a more specific question: If I want to do the extreme intermittent fasting (recycle waste and cancer cells) and am not concerned with building muscle can I use the milk or is water the best way to go? Also in terms of the night time meal what time frame is best and what type of meal do you reccomend (heavy, light, meal type, etc.)?
@jpbludeau Maybe Dr. Mercola could add to this, but most bodybuilders seem to add sugar in some form to their protein purposely. Usually a ratio of 2:1 carbs to protein with the carbs being Dextrose or a Dextrose/Maltodextrin combo. The high GI is said to drive the protein into your muscles. Think how an insulin spike drives fat storage normally. Milk sugar (lactose) is relatively low GI, so wouldn't be ideal. I think the fat found in milk would be the problem, since fat slows digestion.
What you're talking about in this video is EXACLT the way of the Warrior Diet by Ori Hofmekler... one of my FAVOURITE books period! I already follow this diet nowfor 3 years straight & like you said Dr. Mercola, I feel that there's ALOTTA benefits to it as well, from Anti-Aging (although Im just 22, But I want to make this Diet a BIG part of my life in the Long Run!), to WAY more energy, BETTER training resluts, better sleep etc. It's phenomenal indeed!
As I've read few topic related books, such as Warrior Diet from Ori Hofmekler. I've started swearing in the name daily cycles of fasting. Exercising while fasting with the added benefit of consuming metabolism-boosting beverages, such as black coffee or green tea, before the exercise. I've been able to lose significant body fat in short period of time.
Also I've maintained amazing focus and energy throughout the day by drinking freshly squeezed vegetable juices which are ideal for semi-fasting
I am 32 years old. This summer I will begin the process of taking the pre-requisites so that I can attend medical school to become a D.O. You are one of the catalysts for that decision -- Thank you!!!
I personally have a different system, and I'm not a huge "protein" user (and I believe that every individual has their ratio and such), but the fasting is quite beneficial and regenerative. I personally experienced some fantastic healing due to fasting- and would suggest that anyone over the age of 28 who is not pregnant or nursing or is post-surgical should try a reasonable fast if they have bacterial or fungal issues- and READ how to break the fast CORRECTLY as well. Urgently important.
@peoniesfleur probably somthing to do with the volume, i cant hear a damn thing -_-
