  • repeat repeat repeat

  • Such a brilliant song, vocals almost like haunting, sends a real shiver up my spine when I hear this

  • amo a joy division

  • There has been a lot of great bands in the history of pop/rock music, but Joy Division were something extraordinary. Something sets them apart from all the other bands I like, but I can't explain what it is, and I feel almost like it might be dangerous to get too close to it. There's something....numinous about Joy Division, that's the best word I can find to describe it.

  • @579enact EXCELLENT DESCRIPTION OF A BAND THE LIKE WE WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN, SPIRITUAL DARK TRANSCENDENCE

  • i love it i am a joy division addict

  • joy division <3

  • ian died cos he wanted to ,end of !!! so fuck of

  • @PrinceofCats3000 haha same. Pew pewwwww.

  • Guess your dreams always end.

They don't rise up just descend,

    But I don't care anymore,

I've lost the will to want more,

I'm not afraid not at all,

I watch them all as they fall,

But I remember when we were young.

When i read such powerful lyrics like this, i too truly believe this was his good bye song, its so brutally honest about his feelings towards everything, like life and perhaps Deborah, 'But i remember when we were young'.

  • i always think of this as ian's good bye song, just by the Lyrics 'I'm not afraid , not at all '

  • @EilidhlovesA7X no its not

  • LISTEN TO THIS WHILE DRIVING IN YOUR CAR FULL BLAST NO BETTER FEELING!

  • ian ian ian why did you have to leave

  • @GermanPeoplePerson Suffering from epilepsy and depression is probably a pretty tough go....:(

  • Love it..got me sen a original pressing of unknown pleasures last week for a tenner.. class....only problem is that i dont have a record plyer..oh well you cant have it all

  • IAN CURTIS :D ONE OF MY IDOLS

  • @jegki0: date of Ian Curtis suicide.

  • 0:29

    Whats the meaning of "18-5-80"??

  • @jegki0 When Ian passed away bro :(

  • ALL THE JUDGES BEWARE.

  • Joy Division always takes me back to Jr High and high school. I miss Ian.

  • one of their greatest songs IMO

  • @zian1977c You can get a thumb down you arrogant prick.

  • strike ,strike, strike up the band for NIHILISM

  • minha favorita tambem...

  • @zian1977c

Love will tear us apart is also good

But the other less known songs are better :)

  • wot a shit hot track cheers for the upload

  • @zian1977c I can understand these people myself, as few bands made more than one or two major hits which I consider to be actually listenable, especially for nowadays bands. However, I do agree Joy Division is FAR superior to the norm. Half of all known musical trends wouldn't exist if not for JD!

  • @zian1977c Wow homo abuse, so now I know you're about 10 years old I kinda feel sorry for you. If you ASSume it only makes you one thing, I don't even like love will tear us apart and I could only guess at who tops the charts, Gaga and Beyonce must have one in there somewhere? Have a look at some of the songs I have in my folders and tell me if i'm still a billboard. Mad at you, no bro, insane, very much so :D

  • @zian1977c Are you really so narrow minded that you can't abide people having their own personal taste without filling yourself with pointless hatred. Surely a song becomes a hit because it is favoured over the others, if all were liked equally there would be no such thing. It's none of your business what we do or do not prefer so why don't you try and keep your pathetic non-sensical comments to yourself.

  • Wot a fucking classic band man R.I.P IAN CURTIS

  • Yeah, you dont have to like all of the songs, but at least a majority of the songs to be considered a fan.

  • I still listen frequently to the music joy division created as its just soo much better then the crap they produce nowadays.

Often the kids say ''listen to this or that new song'' which they like and then I let them listen to the sounds, rhythms riffs and raffs from the songs out of the 70's, 80's they stole it from.

  • @zian1977c it amazes me how stupid people can get but no, im not mad c:

  • @zian1977c thats stupid, you dont have to like all the songs from a band lol i hate people like you who act like they r better fans that others *~~LOL U GUYZ ARENT REALLY FANZ IM THE ONLY TRUE FAN ~~** damn you elitists

  • This doesnt sound right! This isnt the version I listen to!

  • But i don't care anymore i´ve lost the will to want more..so Depresive so amazing,,Ian Curtis=Genius

  • @zian1977c

A fan would be an appreciation of music. A real fan probably wouldn't try to cut people off from music like this, pretty sure they'd want people to hear their music.

  • @zian1977c

What if they appreciate love will tear us apart but not the others purely for it's merits as a song? Stop begging for thumbs up, that shit annoys me more.

  • 2:18 - 2:25 - something that blows me away! Jezzz! It's awesome!

  • the stupidity of youtube comments is sometimes suprising

  • my favorite one of joy division. Ian was 23 when he hang himself in the kitchen.

  • this is my favourite joy division jong

did ian die of heorin injection overdose?

  • @myyoot suicide.. hang himself

  • @josemoya00000 True :/ in the 23 year of his life

  • @josemoya00000 While listening to his favorite Iggy Pop and The Stooges album.

  • @josemoya00000 Ian Curtis rarely, if ever, took illigal drugs. It was the legal drugs that make him kill himself

  • @myyoot are you fucking retarded

  • @mattyowen2009 no young sir, what makes you think this

  • @myyoot thinking that he died of a heroin overdose you tool

  • @myyoot watch Control

  • @myyoot google is your friend

  • it's ian's the best song

  • Used to great effect in the movie Awaydays. Really capturing that end of 70s austerity and gloom. Great song!

  • how old was ian curtis when he died?

  • @myyoot

    23

  • @myyoot 24

  • @myyoot

If we count by year (1956-1980), he was 24, but he died before his birthday so he was 23.

  • so cool! a personal fav for sure!

  • my favourite. if our personalities are born in our youths then we all remember when we were young

  • Best JD song...

  • @blocpartyband07 are you hallucinating ?

  • very good song.

  • And the clenched fist releases...

  • I think that this IS my fave ever song by Joy Division.

  • 3 people need not to worry .. for they have sinned .. they shall fall

  • shut hte fuck up its our ian so fuck of scetic tanks this manmchester forever you know fuck all

  • @boardy777777 You're gay.

  • The Closer LP always makes me think of a bleak winter landscape, in black and white.

  • ...

  • Ian didn't kill himself because of the music ,he had a lot on his plate, sometimes life gets to much, enjoy the music but don't use it as an excuse, ive seen the film and read the book and its a cowards way out but who am i to judge

  • to be perfectly honest...I don't like joy division because of their morbid lyrics, I like them because of their awesome post punk sound.

  • I love this that I can relate but too much of a p@#sy to do it

  • I wil drink to you at midnight, if i`m awake!!

  • good, i enjoyed it.

    happy new year friend :-)

  • There have been many time in 2010

    when I may disturbed you

    troubled you

    irritated you (etc.)

today I just wanna tell you

.I plan to continue it in 2011.

Happy new yer my friend :-)

  • I personally find Closer to be a more depressing album than Unknown Pleasures. I mean, Jesus, the last three songs: Twenty Four Hours, The Eternal, Decades. How could anyone not feel suicidal after listening to those? They are amazing and beautiful, but fucking harrowing.

  • Saw them at Blackburn King Georges Hall, Preston Warehouse, Blackpool Imperial Hotel, and London Rainbow, when he had a fit on stage

  • @Crabster1000 Damn. I'm always too freaked out to watch their live shows because I'm afraid to see him have a seizure on stage.

  • great song!!!! rip Ian Curtis

  • Sad song he will always be remembered! rip

  • fucking sublime.....

  • I guess the dreams always end.

  • anyone who turns their nose up at Joy Division is a soulless simulacrum of a human being

  • Why is it that people never really point out Ian Curtis's skills as a lyricist.

"Guess the dreams always end, they don't rise up just descend" - Simple but effective

  • these lyrics.. ian curtis was desperate guy

  • Simply a fucking icon .

  • Saw them 4 times .. unbelieveable...

  • @Crabster1000 just broke out in chills omg legs are tingling here that's so cool !!!!!!!!

  • This is song is JD's best song, even better than Tear Us Apart Again or She's Lost Control.

  • I do remember....Too...

  • Together with The Eternal I could call this the song of my life. How sad and beautiful in the same time.

  • my fourth fav song, 1.heart and soul, 2.disorder, 3.shadowplay and 4.insight joydivision FTW!!

  • And all god's angels beware, and all you judges beware, sons of chance take good care!

  • Thank you sooo much for upload this song- another one from this outstanding band - and the beautiful Ian pics!!

  • beautiful beautiful song, not afraid anymore.. inspiration right there:) ♥

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO depressing

  • joy division have a very special sound very emotional

  • 1975allyboy, are you the one who diagnosed him adepression?

  • i'm not afraid anymore ;o)

  • Watch away days ppl, great soundtrack!!!

  • I want to learn the epileptic dance he often performed. at least that's how I saw it. Him mocking his sierzures. sorry.. no spell checker on this faggoted browser

  • tnis song hits you like a thunder ......

  • I think this incredible song points to the endless quest of escaping the worst prison of all - our fears!

  • S. Ian Curtis grazie!

  • great track. has meaning in so many different ways to different people. def fav track of mine. the memories.......

  • try and keep close that witch you despreately whish to kee close.

  • Un tema que me fascina de un disco increíble de una banda a la que cualquier grupo le debe algo.

  • this song takes my breath away.

    Joy Division make my days.

  • Was in Manchester for the 30th anniversary . Peter Hook and guests performed the entire " Unknown Pleasures" album at Factory .

The the most surreal moment of the night was when this song was played . The crowded room exploded in emotion ... it was unbelievable.

  • I often think I'm walking through a prison approaching an electric chair when I hear this... Yet feel like I'm quite ready to go through with that, I'm not afraid anymore... Then the lazers as I'm being zapped.

  • i'm a complete twat and just thought i would throw in my two penneth worth to make you guys all feel better about yourselves.

  • Definately my favourite JD song.

    R.I.P. Ian.

  • The Sound and the Fury

  • Comment removed

  • No, Ian recorded his vocals for this song over the phone... not in an elevator.

  • @CARNLOU

    OVER THE PHONE???????????? wtf !

  • But why these laser guns' sound???

  • My all time song!!!

  • I've been listening to them for like 3 years and the music is fantastic. P.S. Yes, I do know what the Historical meaning of Joy Division means.

  • 18 maggio 1980

    18 maggio 2010

    30 years without you...

  • tears of sadness for you-30 years,but we still remember.RIP Ian,god bless.

  • exceptional, special, rare, unusual, uncommon, exceptionable = JOY DIVISION! Love will tear us appart and R.I.P. for Ian.

  • I think it was in the remastered 2 disc edition one of the members said that the vocals were recorded over a phone.

  • @Blodqvist Martin Hannett stuck him in the studio elevator to record the vocal track, that's also the humming of the motor and the doors opening you hear.

  • I remember when I was young...and I'm not afraid anymore.

  • man this song should be played everywhere in the world!!!!! its pure awesomeness

  • wasnt this track on the film awaydays ??? wen was this track released ??? i would like to know more about this group this song is great.

  • Ian, my old friend

  • ian is god

  • Every time i look at Ians eyes it llooks like he c death for the first time..

  • My favorite JD song. This album touches very close to home. In 1994 I attempted to drink myself to death, and just played Unknown Pleasures over and over the entire time. I woke up in the hospital 2 days later. I wasn't able to listen to this album again until 2 years ago. I reconnected with it and I can listen to this on my Ipod while walking around on a beautiful Summer's day. Very strange the effect that music can have on you.

  • The ironic thing is that Deborah Curtis mentioned in her book about Ian, that if you're going to commit suicide to any album, it would be Unknown Pleasures.

    Sorry for being so morbid.

  • @bfall66 Indeed she did, am reading the book at the moment, it,s quite a sad read

  • @bfall66 Damn im sorry, i have had my own endeavors with alcohol. I have connected with aa. A truly anarchistic group. Dont let the GOD thing let you down, Allow yourselt to be true to yourself.

TMBG: Be who you are. Be like yourself, Be what you are like.

  • @Subadai111 - ..."and I'm having a wonderful time but I'd rather be whistling in the dark..."

Ha! That cheered me up this morning. Thanks.

I go to AA a few times a week. After feeling out about 7 rooms over a 2 year period, I finally settled into a really good one. They do the Higher Power thing the right way, and they don't turn away people with other drug addictions.

I hope all is well with you.

  • Welcome back! I hope that you realise that life goes on. It is full of ups and downs and nothing you do will matter a trillion years from now; but the people who care about you; you being there matters to them. It's great to be alive and as long as you have life, nothing matters.

  • @dprague - Thanks. I appreciate your words.

  • @bfall66 what kind of spastic tries to drink themselves to death? just jump off a bridge a get it over with.

  • @MultiTrollHunter indeed.

  • @bfall66 tmi

  • i love this song i know it sounds morbid but if my wife dosent have this song played at my funeral i will cum back and haunt her .ha .ha rip ian true genius

  • que bueno es esto por dios !

  • fuckin loves it!!!

  • make Joy Division #1 in the UK for 18-05-10, it will have been 30 years since Ian passed, push Love will tear us Apart to the top, there is a facebook group

  • yeah i joined

  • is it just me, or does Ian almost look like a completly different person in each of his photos?

  • no i've seen it as well

he looks completely different on each photo, it's like his personality changed his looks as well , it's pretty weird

  • "And all God's angels beware,

    And all you judges beware,

Sons of chance, take good care...

For all the people not there...

    I'm not afraid anymore.

    I'm not afraid anymore.

    I'm not afraid anymore.

    Oh, I'm not afraid anymore..."

  • absolutely brilliant!!!the voice sounds a bit dodgy:),but the sound is amazing!!!!

  • wow! is all i can say

  • I've lost the will to want more...

  • Great song!

    Awsome band!

  • @ Roypuello~~I think you're trying to be humorous, but you sound like a douche even mentioning Jessica Simpson on a JD video page.

  • So incredible and so beautiful.

  • lol made me laugh

  • @Roypuello continue to coast through life thinking its wonderful and then one day BANG you might realize that its not. Then again, if you get a bang on the head you probably wont feel it.

  • Nice... different and nice... =)

  • the only danger with this guy is that he is another one of those famous rock stars that makes suicide "fashionable". wonder how many people have killed themselves since since 1980 inspired by Ian???

  • I would hope more people take from his experience that marriage and pregnancy shouldn't be taken lightly and it's really not for the realm of teenagers.

  • well he was 22 when natalie was born so he wasnt a teenager

maybe he was simply trying to do TOO much a for a man in his early 20s
