@cerafyn En extremo cierto, he ido a Bocas y es 180 grados diferente, ellos si saben aprovechar su cultura, su comida y la naturaleza que les rodea, saben atender al turista local y extranjero y han logrado un medio de vida con el turismo, cuidan su entorno, y son cortezes, en Colon conosco gente que heredaron tierras en las costas, las vendieron a extrajeros y ahora estan en probreza y trabajan para ellos., error total debieron ellos usar ese bien para crecer y sustentarse.

Maybe that would sound rude or even a bit racist, but in my opinion, only citizens of Colon are to blame for this horrible condition of this town. White people created it beautiful, but after they left it became extremely poor and very dangerous with a lot of trash, no places to visit, no culture life, lack of education, etc. The problem is the black people that are naturally lazy and not ambicious. They dont wanna do anything to improve Colon, they just seat out with beer and do nothing.

@53398 If you mean Zona Franca as the nicer part of town there is a seperate video. We were driven around a lot and did not ask for the worst part of town. But the old city center is the most interesting and turistic place in my eyes. I found Colon very interesting and can recommend to anyone the restaurant Grand Cafe. I liked to eat there very much!
@mssx99 If the municipality would just sweep the streets and give all buildings a new coat of paint, Colon would be a prettier place. But the authorities are too busy stealing the peoples money, intead of giving them a nice city to live in. How expensive can sweeping the streets and painting the buildings be? It's sad, yes but I'm sick and tired of people (especially foreigners) who walk into a countries "poor zone," and automatically think that the entire country is facing crisis. Pienso que se debe invertir en la remodelación y resocialización de esta ciudad que urgentemente la necesita, primero los que son morosos deben ser desalojados de sus hogares, más operativos policiales para disminuir la criminalidad, aparte de que remodelar edificios es una prioridad y tratar de mostrarle a las personas que viven en esas áreas que deben cooperar ya que las condiciones en que viven no son las propicias para vivir.

Me causa mucha tristeza este video....y aunque sabiendo que hoy dia es una realidad que no se puede ocultar...igual es muy TRISTE!! me embarga una gran nostalgia, al mirar estas calles que conllevan en su suciesa tan lindos recuerdos en mi memoria.. de una infancia feliz,unas calles sanas y limpias un pueblo pintoresco en donde mi ninez fue una inolvidable! en donde las personas tomaban mas orgullo en mantener la imagen de nuestra querida provincia! que pasa mi gente? El problema es la idiosincrasia de nuestra gente. Piensan que esa es la mejor forma de vivir y cuando tu tratas de explicarles para que entren en razon se ponen a la defensiva y empiezan a decirte "que es lo que te has creido? ahora piensas que eres mejor que nosotros?" y es verdaderamente triste el tener que lidiar con esto. There's big plan to convert that city into a big FREE-ZONE, building a airport, get people in and out quickly, because it's going to be a very busy place. This will be a safer way. Lo! I couldn't see it all.was too sad to watch. I remember growing here and I remember the streets were clean and that was back in the 70 and early 80s. I seen photo of a beautiful Colon. This city has a rich history more than even a lot of other cities in Panama. No one is teaching the new generation the value, moral and love for their city, they have nothing to compare. Pienso que se debe invertir en la remodelación y resocialización de esta ciudad que urgentemente la necesita, primero los que son morosos deben ser desalojados de sus hogares, más operativos policiales para disminuir la criminalidad, aparte de que remodelar edificios es una prioridad y tratar de mostrarle a las personas que viven en esas áreas que deben cooperar ya que las condiciones en que viven no son las propicias para vivir.
El problema es la idiosincrasia del colonence.

En lo personal la culpa de la situación de Colón es compartida, el gobierno por abandonar esta ciudad que puede ser un centro financiero de primera, pero no tienen esa visión, segundo es que los propios colonences no han tratado de provocar el cambio que tan urgentemente necesitan ya que muchos esperan a que les regalen todo y no buscan como mejorar.

Dang! I last lived in Panama 28 years ago and down town Colon was falling down then. These were some of the nicest people that I've ever met in my life despite the abject poverty. Still, the most neglected part of Panama, it's a shame!

Me causa mucha tristeza este video....y aunque sabiendo que hoy dia es una realidad que no se puede ocultar...igual es muy TRISTE!! me embarga una gran nostalgia, al mirar estas calles que conllevan en su suciesa tan lindos recuerdos en mi memoria.. de una infancia feliz,unas calles sanas y limpias un pueblo pintoresco en donde mi ninez fue una inolvidable! en donde las personas tomaban mas orgullo en mantener la imagen de nuestra querida provincia! que pasa mi gente? DESPIERTEN! que tristeza!

El problema es la idiosincrasia de nuestra gente. Piensan que esa es la mejor forma de vivir y cuando tu tratas de explicarles para que entren en razon se ponen a la defensiva y empiezan a decirte "que es lo que te has creido? ahora piensas que eres mejor que nosotros?" y es verdaderamente triste el tener que lidiar con esto. Estoy seguro que hay muchos que queremos ver a un Colon surgir de las cenizas sin embargo tiene que haber un cambio de mentalidad por parte de ellos.

This is painful to watch as a Colon Man. But, this is a lesson in History. This is what Socialism leads to: POVERTY! The government passed laws saying that landlords (building owners) could NOT evict people that did not pay their rents or mortgage. Result: renters did not pay......owners did not mantain. Look at those buildings, not a coat of paint! they look just like buildings in Haiti and Communist Cuba. If something belongs to the government. it really belongs to NOBODY...no one cares

I know the real reason why the government is not doing anything about Colon. There's big plan to convert that city into a big FREE-ZONE, building a airport, get people in and out quickly, because it's going to be a very busy place. This will be a safer way. Lo! And those who are still living there need to get out, they need the space. And some people hung-in there in that shame because they don't pay no rent, and they don't want to pay rent, so they stay in that unhealthy condition. QUE PENA!

I couldn't see it all.was too sad to watch. I remember growing here and I remember the streets were clean and that was back in the 70 and early 80s. I seen photo of a beautiful Colon. This city has a rich history more than even a lot of other cities in Panama. No one is teaching the new generation the value, moral and love for their city, they have nothing to compare. They just got used. Colon is New Orleans sister they have so much in common.even the way they streets and old houses were build.

realmente este video me dio mucha tristeza al ver como el gobierno panameño y los colonenses se han dejado caer en una situación tan penosa, en la actualidad vivo en C.R. y realmente esto es deprimente pero lo más deprimente es ver el poco interes de lo lugareños por hacer la diferencias. Coño sí vivo ahí debo hacer lo mejor por mejorar mi medio ambiente y si el gobierno no colabora, deben ver como lo hacen por si mismo ah! pero para eso no hay cerebros. ¿QUE PASA PEOPLE?

Realmente nuestra ciudad ha estado abandonada por muchos años... gente que tiene los recursos para procurar un Colòn hermoso desvia su mirada hacia el horizonte, pero Colòn tiene algo valioso que es su gente!.. Además, Colòn no es solo las 16 calles.. tenemos lugares realmente hermosos que serian la envidia de cualquier pais del primer mundo.. Ojala nuestros gobernantes vean este video...!

@acwongk I tried to publish a video as objective as possible. I hope haven't hurt anybody... But this is what one can see going there. I stayed at the Sol Melia and even there one could see us-buildings abandoned 20 years ago in a very bad shape and for sale for 1 $ as panameños told me.

@diegotutiven And this is not the worst, you didn't look at the other parts of the country. we have beautiful places, and beaches etc etc. Is like USm it has bad places and nice places. like newyork. The differents is that USA is a bigger country and you dont get to see everything, and panama is small and everything is known.
