  • Ahhhh it cuts out right before the best part of the song!

  • After Troy comes the Journey of a life time!!!

  • I want to go on an Epic journey. I don't want to job anymore :(

  • just wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • I want to make love to a heathen woman now!!!!!!! GROOT SMASH!!!!

  • this is a fuckin masterpiece

  • Is this live???

  • @Nursesaids This is not the live version, but trust me. The live version is at, or above par to the studio version.

  • una obra de arte

  • Pure. Genius.

  • YaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • 2:00 reminds me of starfox

  • superhero music!!!

  • dang. I was hoping for the actual song. I know MusicalEwok has it up, but it's poor quality =(

  • 1: 54 - 1: 58 is totally john williams inspired ,micheal romeo has said that he is a huge star wars fan!!

  • I can definitely sense 'Saint Seiya' influence there at 4:10 - or at least sound almost exactly the same. Epic track!

  • sounds like final fantasy had sex with deathklok

  • listening to this kind of stuff reminds you how all music comes from classical music.

  • @chriscoooley

so true man, you gotta respect classical no matter what music genres you like or dislike. if you don't respect classical than you're a douche.

  • @Fluffypopcicle: Couldn't have said it better my self! :)

  • @Fluffypopcicle Finally, someone who is actually smart.

  • Best part of the song in my opinion. What Progressive Metal is ment to be.

  • I LIKE

  • World greatest Progressive Power Metal!!!!!

  • Actually this song was released with the album in 2002, at same year as Dream Theater's album Six Degree of Inner Turbulence.

In CD 2, the song Overture... It doesn't really sound like The Odyssey.. Overture sounds more like a victory style pose song in a way, while The Odyssey sounds more fitting for an epic battle.

  • Keeping in spirit with comparing it to random music types, it sounds like it could belong in a soulcalibur game or some kind

  • Reminds me of Overture by Dream Theater.

  • @RandomanProductions5 Which overture by Dream Theater? :P They have more than one.

  • @TheMothershabooboo Just Overture, not 1928

  • @RandomanProductions5 gotcha, I was thinking of the overture from 6 degrees of inner terbulance.

  • @TheMothershabooboo Ya thatss what i meant

  • It's like reading Homer's Odyssey again. Friggen epic.

  • to me this actualy sounds more like Rebot then anything u guys have compaired it to

  • Lol, the intro sounds like something out of a hectic intro to a christmas movie (0.18). XD

  • Now that you mention it, it does!

  • Lol, you speak the truth Ulrichfp

  • best song intro in the world

  • Comment removed

  • @SriDys Those french horns sounds like Close Encounters of the Third Kind to me

  • It's OK at first but i dunno about anything after 1:00, really : /

  • epic

  • you guys all speak of what this song sounds like, i.e. pokemon, RPG's Narnia. Well it sounds like Progressive metal at it's best to me.

  • i agree 100%. good comment:)

  • @alexj1206

    ur comment FTW

  • @alexj1206 it doesn't sound like progressive metal at it's best to me.

  • @Hertsman50 Oh? Why not?

  • @biethanistic coz progressive metal at its best is Dream Theater.

  • @Hertsman50 You say that like this is a fact. Everything is open to interpretation. I personally think Symphony X is better than Dream threatre, merely due to their content during solos. I find that Dreamtheatre focuses less on solos and more on melody, which is great in its respective sense.

In any case, both bands are amazingly talented.

  • @biethanistic agreed

  • haha your right, reminds me alot of back to the future movie.

  • Makes me want to go on an Epic journey.

  • @JcWongAndCompany I did go on an epic journey >.>

  • @JcWongAndCompany hehehe

  • SX needs to do a movie sound track for something like Narnia or Tolkien(nothing left though) or Jason and the argonauts or some goddamn fantasy based story. Aaaaargggh!

  • @chillichomper OATH!

  • una joya del metal

  • wij spelen dit liedje bij onze band xd

  • you are ugly.

  • My high school marching band (well, we had a marching band) did a show based off this song. It wasn't too bad. I just wish we had more people involved.

  • This remind me ff9 <_<

  • It reminds me of about a billion RPGs. Someone else said Pokemon, FF, all sorts. Nice song.

  • pokemon

  • parts of this song remind me of back to the future :P

  • man... what about the last one? champions of ithaca... i think you didn't posted it (sorry 4 the bad english... spanish is my native languaje)

  • inutile che la gente si fissa...

i symphony x sono di gran lunga superiori ai dream theater..

provate a fare un confronto tra Change of season e the odyssey... nn c'è paragone

  • Why am I thinking of the Final Fantasy video games as I hear this? LOL.

    Whatever...this kicks ass either way.

  • Light of Day, Day of Darkness by Green Carnation is also approx. 1h long...I would suggest you to listen to it!

But this one is a masterpiece... epic!!!

  • nooo the last 3 minutes!!! :( i want it now!!

or.. i can listen to it on my computer..... amazing band amazing song.

  • The longest I have heard is 1 h 2 mins ;D

  • 1 Hour and 35 Minutes for me

  • wow :P

  • Comment removed

  • ithe longest song i've ever heard is 2112 by rush it was 21 minutes long and i thought it was the longest rock song.

    i was soooooo wrong

  • okay, then listen to dream theater - six degrees of inner turbulence (43mins)

  • dude that's freaking beast

  • LMAO!!! LOL!!!

  • I think the longest is Sun Baked Snow Cave by Boris and Merzbow.

  • yeah six degrees of inner turbulence (43 mins) a change of seasons (23 mins) and octavarium (24 mins) all dream theater these are all estimated lengths.

  • sounds like somethng you would hear from square enix

like final fantasy or kingdomhearts haha

  • Russel Allen's singing style reminds me a lot of Phil Anselmo from Pantera, and this particullary song remind me of Cemetery Gates, in a lot of ways.

  • Comment removed

  • Dream Symphony. Imagine that =D

  • going to back that up or just be arrogant ?

  • a fucking metal masterpiece. It simply is a goddam masterpiece.

  • 6:05 - 7:04 orgasm.

  • Incredible song. The only complaint I have is that they mixed in the band a little bit too heavy compared to the orchestra, so it takes away from the beautiful orchestral lines. It's still an awesome piece though.

  • SO SO EPIC!!!!

  • J'aime bien, c'est ressemblant a Diane Tell

  • I have the 24 minute version :D

  • Epic!

  • *drool*

  • i prefer when Romeo used EMG pickup... it was more accurate and raw.

  • EPIC WIN!!!

  • one of the best epic song ever!

  • If there existed a perfect song, it would be Symphony X's The Odyssey. This song is just something beyond comprehension..

  • damn

  • grrr they should of had the whole song

  • masterpiece!!!!!!!!! carajo!!

  • PERFECT!!! maldicion perfecto

  • Symphony and Dream Theater 4 ever !

  • damn right!

  • super musique bande de coins

  • this should go on the next legend of zelda sound track,! fucking epic song

  • Technically perfect

  • talvez no ocupen una orquesta real pero de verdad que la cancion esta muy bien, podrian hacer algo parecido a lo de dream que busco una orquesta para el score, en realidad es muy buena la banda si, la odisea es realmente buenisima

  • a true masterpiece!!!

  • i couldnt agree more

  • I LOVE THIS SONG :) i played this song 30+ times on my ipod.

  • fucking awesome :S

  • RYAN I FUCKIN MISS U :D

  • Incredible.........................

  • Symphony x is one of the best bands in the metal prog. panorama. And Romeo one of the best shreds players of the world. I love conceptual albums :-)

  • Thanks for the upload I hadn't heard them in over a year.

  • Awsome!

  • All the parts you put up are the ones our Band is Playing for Marching Season THank you

  • Please put the whole song on here! It's not on youtube!

  • I'd love too, but i don't think i want my account being banned for uploading full length commercial audio. Beside that, it would be on 2 parts, because the song is divided into 7 parts and run about 24:14 of minutes.

It's just i only want to highlight the orchestral part of this song, which is soooo damn epic ^_^

  • I see what you mean but millions of people have uploaded full albums and songs on youtube and have got away with it.

  • hahaha so true dude XD

  • how about buying the album?! nerd.

  • Dude, this is so epic-cool! Did they actually used a symphony orchestra?? I like how they fused the rock music with the classical! (Is it R Wagner-influenced?)

  • yup this is indeed an epic piece.

Hmmm maybe they're influenced by Richard Wagner, cos the french horn on this song reminds me of Wagner's Ride of The Valkyrie...but maybe thats just me.

I recommend you to listen to Symphony X - Oculus ex Inferni...it's pretty much as epic as this song, but not near on length.

  • No, the didn't use a real orchestra. They actually used samples by Tascam. I wouldn't say it's directly Wagner influenced. Michael Romeo is a huge John Williams fan, I think that's definitely the inspiration. All the brass and sporadic rhythms...

  • this is great^ ^

  • Aah, I'm loving this so much!

Used to just chill out listening to this tune, never the whole album for some reason though.

    But class!

  • this song is the most EPIC composition...

    EVER...

    in the UNIVERSE...

Well, this and "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" by Dimmu Borgir. This one still wins :)

  • ahahah i agree with that....Dimmu's Progenies is pretty much epic in almost every aspect, but Odyssey still wins because of the flowing story^_^

  • the beginning for me sounds like overture by dream theater but better.

  • Great stuff dudes, love this song!

  • then this music is not for your ears...pretty simple right^_^

  • it's marvelous!

    great band symphony x !!!!!!!

the odyssey's album is so wonderfull!!!!

  • It's the best song ever composed

  • It isn't random at all, it is orchestral, and there is actually a story that it is telling. If you look at the history of the band, and the context of the CD you would know this album is based on a Greek myth.

  • best fucking band ive ever heard, no one is near as epic as symphony x not even dream theater

  • i wanna get this song so fucking bad!

  • why don't you just buy it...

  • I don't what store has this CD.

  • wow...they don't sell Symphony X in the States?

Well, you can always try online purchase?

  • they do sell it here, just have to look.. i have all of their cds.

  • WE love this song so much we used the begining part to introduce us at our wedding!

    Symphony X Rulz!

  • I daresay this song has the best overture ever composed by anyone. The whole song is more than awesome aswell!

This song is the reason why I read The epic Odyssey, and I was amazed how accurately the lyrics correspond to the actual epic! ;)

  • it reminds me overature too

  • i'm had the chance to meet this amazing band

    they are my favorit after Metallica and Yngwie Malmsteen;

the Odyssey is a Master Opus

  • few bands can take the credit of creating such a beautiful piece of art like this one, because not only the lyrics narrate the story but the orchestral parts do it for us to imagine what is not on lyrics

6:20 takes me to that part of the movie (or book) when he wakes up and sees ithaca.

  • It kinda reminds me of Overture from Dream Theater's Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence!

  • yeah, except darker.

  • yeah, except darker.

  • yea me too.

    i like both

  • i was thinking the same thing... but theyre different in some way and both are really good.

  • 6.04 - 6.34, this part always takes me away from here and into another world..something like middleage, i love the epic and mythical melodies of them.

  • Thank you!

  • same here bro. my favorite parts of the song.

  • Adoro esta canción.
