I don't get it. Why put an i5 in a netbook. The target market for these devices tend to be those who only need minimal computing power while mobile. Video, email, documents, web browsing, etc. People who need actual power need a graphics card, and as much of whatever else you can cram into the chassis (like videographers, photographers, some scientists), and this won't appeal to them.
Looks like HP made a device that won't appeal to either side.
looks very pretty. But i just checked out the specs: Im not fussed tbh. No graphics card, which is probably sustaining the battery life. Nice processor though. Not sure what I would do with it that I dont already do with my laptop. Looks very pretty though. USB 3.0 is nice. Cant see it doing more than web and documents though tbh. Shame, waste of an i5 / i7.
It looks nice, but I don't think DVD drives are obsolete yet. I'll keep my classic laptop for now. The ports everywhere are a plus, and this seems like it'd be great for the non-old fuddys that insist on disc based media! (Yes, I just called myself a fuddy duddy.)
I'm not an apple fanboy, but this is a complete MacBook air ripoff. I liked the 2011 ces because tablets were a real "new" thing. Those ultrabooks are just a remake of a concept released by apple back in 2008 (4 years ago!!!).
Well...It kind of looks like a Mac because it is kind of like a Macbook Air. And by kind of I mean exactly the same. i7 processor, SSD, backlit keyboard, ultra thin design, and then a $1000+ price tag? Sorry Intel but Apple has been doing this months and months ago.
device is not worth it the only thing i liked about it is its battery but when you compare it with the transformer prime its seems like its overprice and everything
looks like it has 2x USB 3.0 and maybe one more on the other side, if you think that's going to replace your 3 USB-Hubs Nixie, sounds like you have 3 USB-Hubs too many.
That wasnt too informative... Be more nerdy! I love when you speak more comlicated! You did not said much! Please!!! Reayl! Anyway, liked the video ;)
@samplingrate OMG Dude... whats wrong with you man? How can you even hesitate to decide? It's not everyday you see something of such beauty, elegance, such sexiness... *sigh* just look at the keyboard..
@carlosmashiado2 Actually, you are mostly wrong. Intel classifies UltraBooks as being less than 0.8" thick, less than 3.1lbs and battery life of 5-8+ hours. The Spectre is 0.79" thick, has 9 hours of battery life, but does weigh 3.79 lbs. So the weight is over, but for all intents and purposes, its an UltraBook.
The only laptop brands I buy are ASUS, SAMSUNG or Toshiba. SAMSUNG and ASUS are king. My last 3 laptops were Toshiba. I want an ASUS or a SAMSUNG but they cost a bit more, maybe my next one will be.
I'd never get a HP, no matter how good a deal or how good they make them look. They have more horror stories then any other brand, faulty parts, poor customer service. I only used a HP printer, and that was nothing but crap (I didn't buy it). Yes, I give HP credit for cool designs etc, but that's it
Looks like an interesting product, but honestly they're incredibly overpriced as they are now. But that's the way it works with new technology. What usually works is to just wait.
fuck that, no CD drive and $1399? shit, if it was like $499 or somethin it'd be worth it but $1399? I'll just buy a real laptop......not a slightly larger netbook....
@Hagbard1988 Good point sir. :-p it does look cool though.......if i was in the market for a new laptop i may consider looking into this, plus it's not as if external optical drives are expensive :P
@RevillutionDotCom You don't really need a CD drive as much now a days, if you have a program on a CD you can just rip the files and them on Daemon Tools. Also, by not including the CD drive, it frees up additional space for more important things... like a bigger heat-sink.
@RevillutionDotCom SSD alone costs 300$ or somethin. Im realy happy they didn't put cd drive in there, CD is rarely used in laptops nowadays and its definitely not something i would want to carry around with me. Real laptop ? i7, ssd, beats audio, hd webcam... what more do you want? Its super powerful laptop in notebook skin
@RevillutionDotCom in a while there won't be optical drives in laptops anymore and if you want one you will have to get an external, of course that won't be for a while but yeah, This is a full powered thin laptop minus the drive. When the HP Envy series was first launched they didn't have built in drives either, but they came with externals and they were full sized.
@RevillutionDotCom Why do you need a CD drive in 2012? Discs have become obsolete; anything that can be done with a disc can be done with a USB stick.
Honestly it looks like crap. Granted it does have Solid state SSDs which I think is amazing for laptops. However, if you are going to be someone who relies heavily on laptops and Photoshopping then it might not be that bad. Of course my POV is me being a gamer and plus I'm not a big fan of Intel >:P.
@jgemelli1 naaa, that's the "official" battery life, the real battery life is a little under 6 hours if no wifi on... otherwise your looking at around 5h
