The ideal solution is to put the federal government completely in charge of the banking system. Abolish the privately-run Fed, and give local banks authority as representatives of the government, with salaries paid based on bank performance. That way, when there is a war and the government needs money, or they take a bad risk, or monetary value fluctuates, or whatever happens, taxpayer money goes back in the bank to insure the deposits and doesn't line the bankers' pockets like this bailout did.
Cenk, I think everyone who fights about regulation/deregulation is missing the point. The whole banking system is rubbish because they make money from nothing. When you open a savings account, the bank owes you that money, plus interest. BUT, when you open a checking account, they charge for every late payment, every time you go over a daily limit, so they can make their profit, and then from that pay the interest for other people: ironically, they have to risk those deposits to maximize profit.

Warren does not stand a chance to be confirmed by the Senate. With conservative Democrats like Bayh, Conrad, Nelson, Landrieu, Baucus, Lincoln, Lieberman, etc, I don't see how Mrs nationalize-the-banks can possibly be appointed . Progressives are in a position of disadvantage, the GOP is a unified conservative front, the Democratic party has 11 conservative leaning Democrats in the Senate, and while the Dems are a majority, in reality conservatives (Dem or GOP) are the majority.

The ideal solution is to put the federal government completely in charge of the banking system. Abolish the privately-run Fed, and give local banks authority as representatives of the government, with salaries paid based on bank performance. That way, when there is a war and the government needs money, or they take a bad risk, or monetary value fluctuates, or whatever happens, taxpayer money goes back in the bank to insure the deposits and doesn't line the bankers' pockets like this bailout did.

Cenk, I think everyone who fights about regulation/deregulation is missing the point. The whole banking system is rubbish because they make money from nothing. When you open a savings account, the bank owes you that money, plus interest. BUT, when you open a checking account, they charge for every late payment, every time you go over a daily limit, so they can make their profit, and then from that pay the interest for other people: ironically, they have to risk those deposits to maximize profit.

Libertarian point of view is the correct one on this: get the government out of economy so that it can't 'redistribute' everybody's money to the richest, which is what government is doing every single day, get the government out of regulations and only have government doing justice/punishment, so that if anybody is doing wrong by the people they are punished.
That's all a government can do. Nobody can 'run a big bureaucracy' and have a working economy/political system, no matter how smart.

She's not afraid to show how powerless she was when she had to oversee the bailout money and where it went to and her explanations are not too complicated, but still spot on on what's wrong. Of course she's not the only one who can do the job, but why not her? I guess you came around to see some interviews by now. Any chance she might be the woman for the job in your opinion as well now?
