  • I think the music should have been a gloomy remix of Gangplank Galleon from DKC, but this is nice too.

  • The only thing that kept me patient with this level was THIS lovely tune right here ^___^

  • this music gives me the creeps and im 17 :/

  • I got all but one golden banana on this level.

THAT DAMN MECHANICAL FISH. I was scared to even swim near the gate of it. Always thought some instant game over thing was going to happen by getting eaten by it O.O

  • Vashj'ir!

  • This game needs a remaster, NOT A REMAKE! They will ruin a GIGANTIC part of my childhood if they remake it!

  • Reason # 43 why this game is a travesty to the Donkey Kong lineage.

  • @WilberforceWooster You are aware that "travesty" is a derogatory term meaning inferior imitation, right?

  • @thenameiskip Surely you jest, sir. Is it not an uplifting assignment on the brillancy and epitome of the craft?

  • @WilberforceWooster *slowly shakes head*

No I'm pretty sure it's a bad thing.

  • This level was pretty hard to get everything on.......

  • The opening of this is identical to Captain Blackeye's theme from the unrealised Project Dream. It must have been ported to this game.

    <3 Grant Kirkhope's work.

  • 3:19 reminded me of Banjo Tooie jolly rogers island nostalgic times =')

  • Comment removed

  • nostalgic music :D

  • the name of the song made me think of the DKC games

  • this music scared the crap out of me

  • This level is a perfect example of why people hate water levels in video games

  • @Paulreveere They always seem to be the most challenging....Water Temple anyone?!

  • No offense to Anyone who Liked this Level But I hate this level

  • spoooooooooooky

  • The best music in the game second is Frantic Factory

  • This level basically defines everything that was amazing in games from the 90's.

  • In every 3d version of funny 2d sidescrolelrs (also mario64) there had to be a fuckin deep as water level...they were always the worst ones.

  • I don't know why everyone complains about this level and the boss. the boss is SO easy. all u have do to is swim into the rings in the time limit. Not very hard at all. I found this easier than Fungi Forest's boss.

  • I hated gloomy galleon

  • The music in this game is some of the best that I have ever heard, videogames or otherwise.

  • I hated the troll with the spiky bat..

  • top comments are chicago vs. philly

  • Has anyone noticed that this song has elements of Blackeye's Theme from the cancelled game Dream? It really makes you feel like the spirit of Dream lives on in Rare's other games.

  • My LEAST favourite level in the game, but it was still alright. Some times i just got so unbelievabley lost though.

  • that brings back memories of that time where i played this game as a child, when i was 9. today they just made 3D remakes of classics, i miss the 90s

  • I find it interesting that the name of the level seems to be a combination of Gloomy Gulch and Gangplank Galleon, both of which were worlds in DKC2 in addition to the fact that Gangplank Galleon was also situated on the water. Another thing that's interesting about this level are the portraits of K. Rool which could potentially be alluding to the fact that part of Gloomy Galleon was once Gangplank Galleon.

  • @DOMINATOR5773 could be a homage or easter egg to DKC2

  • My first thought when I listened to this: "RUSTY BUCKET BAY..."

  • @darksideoftheplanet1 Spent a fairly large portion of my childhood playing Banjo Kazooie.

  • My favorite level in the game :)

  • I always hated this level the most xP

  • wheres that tune when ur DK and you race the pirate seal in the coconut boat in this level???

  • yeah coconut boat riding HELL YEAH gonna beat dat seal and get my Gold banana XD

  • The giant robot fish used to scare the shit out of me...

  • kaptain k. rool would have been the perfect nostalgia boss for this world. Imagine lanky getting in a sword fight with k.rool on gangplank galleon then shooting a grape in his blunderbuss like in dkc2. Good times good times

  • oh oh i remember it was near water or something it use to scare the shit out of me.i was only like five or four now im 15 man this seriously made me cry of the memories.sucks that my copy dosnt work im trying to get another one

  • @JPShreddinq oh ikr this game pretty much made my childhood. oh and try getting the game on an emulator on your computer, that ususally works. the only one i know of is project 64, free and all

  • @TheCoolisimo ok thanks

  • this is the one level i refused to beat, simply because i hated the majority of it lol

  • damn i miss when rare still made good games...

  • Sounds a lot like the main theme of Epic Mickey. ._.

  • @UltraMario30000 yeah i think Epic Mickey coped this soundtrack from DK

  • Monkeys with gills. I swear o_o

  • I hated the boss so much.

  • Grant kirkhope thanks for make such a wonderfull song!!!!!

  • this is undoubtedly the best N64 game. oh my, the memories. giant oceans. giant pirate ship. giant mechanical fish. still scares the crap outta me

  • Dude my brother is crzy!! He knows how to play this on piano, guitar, sax?! HOLY

  • Oh, god, I remember this dungeon... Too big. How happy I was when I beat the boss and could leave this annoying water level of doom

  • 0 dislikes. Why? Cuz this game was perfect

  • Ohboy, guess if the big clams in the treasure-chest scared me the first time I saw them xD BTW, so stressful music at 6:32, in that yellow robot-fish =P

  • This song is longerthan I thought.....

  • Even though I hated this level, It's easy to play on the trumpet.

  • Donkey Kong Country 2 thanks you for your visit. Please enjoy your death in one of our many ships.

  • im so tired of fps games. they have to make a remake of this game for the 360.

  • Thumbs up if you were scared of this level simply because of the incredibly deep water.

  • @ManfredMitchum I know right. This level was really damn creepy.

  • @ManfredMitchum Nahh the deep water was nothing compared to those friggen star fish xD

  • @ManfredMitchum

I was scared because of the mechanical fish...those stupid starfishes who never stop moving stupidly and randomly.....oh...and once you turn on the lighthouse....everything gets dark.....

    ...yipe....

  • i broke one of my strings while playing this song on my gitar D:

  • i was born in 1996. i missed the N64 era... DAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

  • This level scared me shitless.

  • @NOCAPITALS901 those fucking obligatory underwater levels man, so creepy.

  • Although this was the most difficult level in my opinion, just the sheer labour of doing it, it was still brilliant!

  • but I love the music x3

  • Brings back memories *___* I hated this level XD

  • the hardest banana in the whole game. in that bastard mecanic fish >=(

  • Umm... this is not all variations, the Barrel Blast version isn't here.

  • 6:30 memories:

Awww!! com'on! get into this damm thing, AUURGH *10seconds left*

my last chance now... NOO! you missed again, Diddy. *whistle sound, time out* ...............! I hate that swimming control...

  • The best part of this level, playing as Enguarde the swordfish!

  • Where is it, where is it, WHERE THE FUCK IS MY DOBKEY KONG?!

  • I really love the part at 1:55 onwards. It was always the most memorable part for me.

  • I always hated this level.

    Music is still friggin' awesome.

  • I always wanted to be in places like gloomy galleon or the factory when I was younger.....someday, I will built a theme park and the background music will be this!!!

    XD

  • Man I swear everything was better back in the 90s. The music, the videogames, and just the vibe was way better. I miss it.

  • @chicagoo17 totally, the 90's were the golden age of videogames. mainly because of the n64 and rare's co-operation with nintendo.

  • @IamFearLezz i AGREE SO MUCH

    DK64 FOR EVER !

  • @IamFearLezz Actually the early to mid 90's is more like it. The Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis rocked.

  • @bigdawg8412 Good call, should've been mid-to-late 90's instead.

  • @chicagoo17 i know man

but every good things have an end !

sorry if my english is not so great !!

  • @chicagoo17 have you seen DKCR? man, they turned Donkey Kong into a human-voiced superman-monkey

  • @chicagoo17 "Man I swear everything was better back in the 2010s. The music, the video games and just the vibe was wat better. I miss it." That's what your kids are gonna say when they turn 60 years old.

  • @toneset Nah, actually the 90's games, movies, music and vibe was better than 2010's, that's just an opinion, but im pretty sure most people agree

  • @MrGeegus It's because of nostalgia, people. I thought the games, the music and the vibe from the early 2000s were the best. Just think about it, we had consoles with handles! We had Star Wars Battlefront, we had Super Mario Sunshine!

  • @toneset I hate when people get all sappy and nostalgic over games of yesteryear, as if there is no way to experience these games today. Many are great to revisit (hence why I'm on this video), but for God's sake, people, get an emulator if you're so heartbroken over these old classics that you would favorably compare them to modern games as though the comparison is objective.

  • @chicagoo17 Mind you, the 90s were almost over when this game came out. :P

  • @chicagoo17 Indeed

  • @chicagoo17 Yeah pretty much. 1990-1999 were great years.

  • Trivia:

This was Blackeye's theme in Project Dream.

  • @MrWarioman64

very intresting indeed! not that i dont believe you. but do you have a source?

  • @hammerbro99 sure. look up the project dream soundtrack!

  • 1:55 - 2:14

    My favorite part.

  • I always loved this level, though I could never find my way into that blasted coin room. I'd always admire it from afar and wonder how to get into there, but I never could...

  • There are so many different little melodies in this! All of them EXCCELLEEEEENT!!!!!

  • This game owns Call of Duty, Halo, and all the crap there is today.

  • fuck yeah no dislikes on this, who could dislike this?

  • I'm terrified of underwater levels, and this music definetly didn't help.

It sounds like you're in a sinking pirate ship.

  • @Waluigifan95 And then it gets worse when it's all dark and the only light is the strobelight-like lighthouse :O!!!!!!

  • Also 1:55 to 2:15 is my favorite part. I wish it would last longer because it's so awesome.

  • @trevordabomb it got stuck in my head for years after I heard it :P

  • My cousins (who I played this with as a kid) told me that if you stay in the water too long in this game, a shark will come and eat you. Because of that, this level scared the crap out of me and my cousins had to beat it for me. Ah, the nostalgia. I actually just recently started replaying this game today. Brings back so many memories. Great game. The soundtrack is fantastic as well. Grant Kirkhope is an excellent composer.

  • @trevordabomb I bet they told you that so they could play. Like my cousins used to give me a TV remote with no battery and pretend I was playing. I fell for it...

    Also I love 1:55.

Dammit... I wanna be a kid again!

  • @GCdotTK HOWEVER! Donkey Kong is owned by Nintendo, Rare just made the game, Nintendo owns DK as well as Diddy and all the others. But Rare owns Banjo, Conker, and everything else.

  • They should put this "gaem" in the VC they can do a lot of money. The rareware references and jetpac? why they dont change them? Rare did that with Banjo Kazooie in the Xbox

  • I think of slim kirby getting ticked off :p.... cough 41 cough

  • Gloomy Galleon always makes me think of those portraits of Kaptain K Rool that you see inside the wrecked ship

  • @phily4life Don't forget the skeletons of dead prisoners that never made it to the plank ;)

  • oh no i swear this level freakes me out

i saw scary things in there

  • It seemed with this game there was always something new to discover. I think I spent most time in this level exploring =]

  • The place of shipwrecks is so scary,

You can survive here, but just barely,

raise the water, raise the gates,

as you risk your live within all the stakes!

Gloomy Galleon is a place of terror,

Riches beneath lie in five souls,

And if they find them I am told,

They will be rewarded with much flair!

  • i used to hate this level when i was little... until i turned into the sword fish!

  • @darkfirexavior if i could i would vote this up a million more times haha!

  • im astonished that nintendo didnt add that to virtual console.it must be a problem with shitty microsoft owning rare or something

  • @Alxmir23 But, but Nintendo kept all Donkey Kong properties. Gwaah. I guess I'll just have to fix my yellow cart's backup battery.

  • The Music around 4:15 is the creepiest music videogame-history

  • @asshole1920 best N64 Games ARE : Ocarina of time , Majora's mask , Donkey kong 64 , goldeneye , super mario 64 and paper mario

DAMN i have so much memories

  • I think this is actually my favourite level. I liked the pirate theme, the music and it was challenging, but not too frustrating. I managed to do the robot fish after the 2nd try.

  • Plus, all the games I have for the N64 are in perfect, working condition from the day I bought them years ago, while I had to throw away many a CD from one of my brothers throwing it IN IT'S CASE. CD's and DVD's are only expected to last for a limited time, no matter how well you store them. Either they should start making cartridges again, or at least make something that will fix scratches. I don't really think a game would be worth it if I know it will eventually fall into the trashcan.

  • I found in easter egg in this level. In one of the sunken ships look at the pictures on the wall. It is K. Rool in his pirate outfit from Donkey Kong Country 2. He even has his blunderbuss.

  • @jmario232 its not really an easter egg if the developers mean for you to find it, but it is funny.

  • what a terrible level, the music made up for it though.

  • Everything in this game was huge.

  • I actually played this level earlier, and I am missing one golden banana... WAAAAAAAAH >:( Playing this game again brings back memories from teh good old days

  • @supermariofan10 you mean Mario 64?

  • i havent played this since i was like 5 but this song brings back not very good memories... i think i was stuck on a level with this music or something :P

  • And another reason I don't exactly like this stage is because it feels way too massive so I'm not sure what to do first (well actually I do know that I should go to the area where Cranky's Lab is and collect and do the stuff that is possible to do there but after the I kind of have no idea what the most important objectives that aboslutely need to be done after that) and then theres the fact that all the underwater areas are so big it makes collecting bananas & coins kind of hard *2bcont.*

  • *Continued* It's just this level is just so overwhelming with how massive it is. Though My favorite stage is Fungi Forest, but I've forgotten how big that place is, but if I can recall it isn't as diffcult seeing as you're not searching for stuff at different massive different waterlevels and it's on dry land for the most part, and another reason I prefer Fungi Forest is because it has a relation to a Banjo-Kazooie level that was left out: Fungus Forest I find that fact to be pretty cool.

  • Normally I like swimming around in Water Stages especially if I have unlimited air so you would think I would have enjoyed Gloomy Galleon, but for Me this is My least favorite level, the reason why? It was way too long, it just dragged on and and on and by the time I was a little halfway into the level and I was sick of it, I was sick of the swimming gameplay and the having to collect stuff at different water levels since it goes down so deep *2bcont.*

  • *Continued* since it goes down so deep, it went on so long that I was just sick of all the swimming and just wanted to continued with the gameplay on land levels that didn't have as much water as Gloomy Galleon. I like swimming in games (and in reality) even with the Oxygen meter & even more when there is none but doing it for as long as Gloomy Galleon makes you do it is a little too long a little much and kind of hard not to make you get sick of the swimming gameplay even without an air meter.

  • this themes creepy.

i can just picture my self underwater.

  • inever liked this level, its too... glommy : )

  • @ 6:42 thats the theme to that robot fish.

took me while to complete it, annoying as hell

  • why they never made a second 3d donkey kong adventure like this is beyond me ?

why do they make those fuckin stupid retarted games with the bongos ?

its just like banjo kazooie on xbox A TOTAL DISCRACE TO US THE LOYAL FANS

they all know at nintendo that if they made a new donkey kong 3d adventure game that that shit would sell fast as hell

WHY DONT THEY DO IT ? GODAMMIT

  • @010les its beacause they all think about money now a days and not entertainment. =(

  • i would rather play Donkey Kong then call of duty.

    whos with me?

  • @bazla123 I'm with you there.

  • @bazla123 i'm with you 100% Classic games rule

  • @bazla123 i 100% agree with you

  • @bazla123 I am

  • @bazla123 most everyone

  • @bazla123 call of duty is highly overrated and hasnt come up with something new since cod 2

    im with you man!

  • @bazla123 call of duty is kinda good but its boring after like 2 hours

    so....im with you !!!

  • @bazla123 your comment has 64 thumbs up.

  • @bazla123 anytime, I'm sick of playing boring world war 2 simulators and faceless garbage. Give me nintendo and their magic anytime.

  • @bazla123 Yeah I'd rather go on an adventure with Donkey Kong and the Gang rather than shoot mindlessly at targets. Rareware ruled.

  • @bazla123 AMEN!

  • @bazla123 I'd say it depends (to me personally) on which CoD you refer to, as I find 'World at War' and 'Modern Warfare 2' to be fairly shittish (I have no reason to believe Black Ops don't belong with those two shitty ones, along with the self-declared shitty CoD3)

But point being, as much as I like CoD1, 2 and 4; DK64 was such an epic win it is barely possible to word it.

  • @bazla123 yes! cod sucks lol hahaha

  • i love the music.

but i hate the level. but then again not many people like water stages right? =|

  • This soundtrack is just a variation of the Mad Monster Mansion's interior soundtrack. Still good, though.

  • OMG,this is Captain Blackeye theme form project dream, check it at Rare Witch Project.

  • @banjokazooierules54 You mean check it at Grant Kirhope's own website. ;)

  • Why did they have to abandon the cartridge for gaming? ALL of the games I got for my N64 still work perfectly, while all my GC and Wii games are scratched to oblivion within months! The N64 cartridges in my house have to withstand 3 young boys 12 and other, getting dropped, thrown, spat on, had juice or. . . other fluids. . . poured on them, an yet they come out still working perfectly!

All you need to clean them is a washcloth, and maybe some rubbing alcohol.

    Geez Nintendo, get the hint!

  • @BCSpore more information can be stored on CD's at a cheaper price

  • The cartridge format was part of the reason many companies who supported Ninty during the SNES abandoned them for Sony during the N64 days, most notably Square and their Final Fantasy 7. And CD games are much cheaper to make.

Just be happy the DS still sorta uses the cartridge format.

  • @metaXzero catridge or not nintendo 64 was more epic than those crappy shooters nowadays could ever be. Videogame industry was totally scewed because of microsoft.

  • @BCSpore 1. Making cartridges are expensive and was one of the turn offs for game developers.

    2. Cartridges can't hold 4 to 8 GBs of data.

    3. Its easier and cheaper to use dvd based media plus they hold more data then cartridges.

4.Its easy to take care of dvds for example my copy of twilight princess is in excellent condition it has no scratches at all and i had it since i got it on late 06. Don't leave your disks laying around out of its case.

  • @thoughtsofglought

But with today's technology, there are ways of making cartridges at a cheaper price, and having it hold a LOT more information than 4-8 GBs. And, cartridges are a LOT more resilient and easier to maintain. I live with 3 younger brothers all under the age of 12. It's practically impossible to keep any CD based media without scratches for any extended amount of time, even if you make sure to put each game into it's case and put it away.

  • hate this level.

im trying to that fish thing with diddy, and its so friggin hard.

  • Perfect track for a awesome pirate related level =D

  • grant kirkhope is the man
