You know what! I have a voracious appetite when it comes to music and have done so for many years. I get a hankering for some sound, or some band, or some song, and I get an insatiable buzzing in my brain, and when I find what I'm looking for I gorge myself on it until the very thought of it makes my brain swell with excitement. Yep, sounds healthy. But that's the way I am with music, and that's what makes the buzzing so intense, and there isn't much I can do about it,
I just happened to hear the new song by Burnt Cross, and although I have heard, and have a lot of their stuff, this track by Rob & Paul ‘New Dawn’ gave me the same feeling when I first heard ‘(S)mother Earth’, and for whatever reason the buzzing started up again. So, to make the buzzing go away, in short order, and to be safe, I listened to ‘(S)mother Earth’ again for the sake of my sanity, am I glad that I did!
The atmosphere of the music was comparable to ‘(S)mother Earth’ as well: the first 30 seconds of ‘New Dawn’ just had me captivated straight away with the poignant sound of the guitar as it fades in. The music is dark and absorbing, it has an emotional and eerie alluring eminence. Paul’s vocals are honest and so full of emotional anger and meaning however, his vocal remains controlled to contrast the music which makes this such a powerful and emotive track.
Although slower than most of the band’s musical fair, burnt Cross have come up trumps again with this track. Their sound is that of an honest, musically hard-working, and full-fledged band with a penchant for soaring melodies. Their music is honest, lively, memorable, thought provoking and always inspiring. Burnt Cross can produce some memorable tracks that get stuck in your head after only one listen and ‘New Dawn’ has just done that.
They never dissapoint :) (A)
