based on my observation with my kids. It is way easier to get you started in soccer than in any other sport, the initial skill requirements are very low. I was not expecting this.
However, to become good at it, its very hard like in any other sport. However, more people will like this sport more due how easy it is to get you started and how cheap it is to play it too.

I think I know why soccer is more popular. It requires less talent to start playing.
I was introducing my kids some sports basics:
-volleyball. Simply hitting and keeping the ball in the air from one player to another.
-baseball. Simply catching the ball with the glove and throwing back to another.
-basketball, simply dribbling the ball and throwing to each other.
I noticed all these simple things were way more difficult for my kids than kicking the ball to each other while doing soccer LOL

based on my observation with my kids. It is way easier to get you started in soccer than in any other sport, the initial skill requirements are very low. I was not expecting this.
However, to become good at it, its very hard like in any other sport. However, more people will like this sport more due how easy it is to get you started and how cheap it is to play it too.

Also there are real grass root clubs playing against teams full of supertars, it feels more real and less commercialised than Am Football. If Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson tried performing at halftime in the F.A cup final there would be a riot. Soccer is more real,more honest,less synthetic than Am football.

...the momentum of the game quite a bit. also just entertaining. both sports require alot of athletic ability and alot of skill, also with hockey you need to learn how to skate which some people are hesitant to do, while anybody can walk... reading back it might look like im bashing soccer but really im not. its something i play in the summer along with baseball while waiting for the ice to freeze.

i have respect for hockey and soccer players. the FACTS are that soccer is popular around the world because all you need is a ball to play. any country can play soccer. hockey you need a sheet of ice, skates, a stick, and a puck. pads if you want. almost primarily played in cold climates of the world, a fairly small percentage of the population. the "acting" in soccer can make me laugh with trying to fake out the refs. you might call the fighting in hockey childish but it helps change...
