  • The Ku band is used for video+audio and data packet transmission from space to ground. Audio communications will use Ku or C band. C band coverage is more robost and hand-off between satellites is nearly seemless as it's a packet relay.

The video playback here was a single stream, so a Ku hand-off would corrupt the stream. They also have to wait for pickup and handshake from the Ku -> Ground connection before resuming.

  • Actually it sounded like they lost Ku-band communication, or video downlink capability. The handover they refer to is when the next pocket of comm becomes available, where comm is "handed over" to the next available satellite. They still apparently had audio downlink capabilities since they were still talking to each other.

  • @BonMotish What? I thought they spent billions on the Internet so I could write THIS?

  • so thats how people do a pee test , they go into space , pee in a bag , and crash bad on the farmacy

  • that's great but we all want to know - can you blow bubbles?

  • funny how the body seems to work just fine in zerogravity(or microgravity)

  • @snelpiller But you lose bone and muscle mass (even with exercise).

  • @snelpiller

actually there are lots of problems with microgravity and the body... your digestion system requires gravity to work properly... making digesting food more difficult... eyes also float in eye sockets... and bone density and muscle mass is lost.... just to name a few

  • @leptir99 because its a video link from space to earth, its paused while the team on the ground are away or not ready. Listen to the video

  • I think this is very cool whatever I said earlier I was just joking around. I do find this very interesting.

  • Which says to me that there still exists gravity!! Just in smaller doses...

  • Well that's simple. The mass of the metal wire is obviously greatly than the density and mass of the water. Hey presto!!

  • I wonder what liquid nitrogen and mercury would look like in space? I'm not saying together I mean seperately.

  • mercury would get weird because it's so responsive to magnetism. it's also toxic which makes experimenting difficult.

liquid nitrogen would just expand and raise the space station's heating bill :P

  • What does water have to be so tense about?

  • It's in space! Hello!

  • I GET IT!!!!! lol

  • hope ya like it

  • lol

  • Cool!

  • okay, let me see if I got it... if you can freeze or cristalize a fluid with this method, you might produce small perfect lenses for... uhh... ...does this line of thought make any sense?

  • Lazers!!!!!

  • I guess but you would need a way to curve the lens in order to create any sort of focus. It seems as if the water creates a flat surface.

  • where they in space during this or just in a module?

  • Space ISS.

  • Yeah Spokguy. I wonder bout that 2

  • This was probably during off-time STFU the Space Program is one of the only useful places for money to go.

  • you should just go and blow "bubbles".

  • hey space is probably going to be our next home so we need this research!!

  • Bubbles are fun...

  • Interesting experiment, also interesting radio intercourse. A little insight into the logistics of working and living on an orbiting platform.

  • god, i love how people think they know everything and immediately start saying, and i quote "it's not only water". Chances are they were not even up there so how would they know? I dont either, but whatever, I dont immediately go and start saying its something when it isnt.

  • incredible lol

  • think how easy it would be to do komplex dimensions from melted plastic with that teknick u need only shaped wiremould and liquid plastic that hardens in the mould

  • 4th dimensional cube n e 1?

  • pretty cool

  • It can help improve methods of producing certain new products. Space has helped us in ways...I guess you don't know.

I'll bet you know who's playing quarterback on Sunday.

  • Liar,

    It's not just water.

It mixed with hydrogen and oxygen.

  • i gotta admit... i lol'd...

  • Lol, I hope you're joking..

  • you do know its not some conspiracy that water is actually hydrogen and oxygen.

  • you gotta admit, that's very useful in everyday life..

  • ... First 1:18 is frozen...

  • I'd rather my tax dollars go towards learning about our world, and how it works, than killing people.

  • Why does everybody hate this comment?? We clearly need our military to even exist!

  • yeah the internet was invented so the military could communicate quicker and safer.

  • Our entire budget should be spent on trying to kill as many people as possible.lol

    You're stupid.

As if while doing our little science projects we don't need a military to protect the scientists. You idiots don't live in reality. You have one track minds.

Russia is back. Did anyone tell the geek squad? Iran is bent on WWIII.

Maybe if we don't fight back it won't last so long.

  • stupid joke, these people -('making water bubbles'), are making also things for dummies like you to not to die because of boring life.

(if you are clever enough to understand whats beyond this message)

  • well I am sure you know everything about what was in that plastic bag because you were up there weren't you? No, you were not. so stop posting stuff that will make you look smart (even though it doesnt) and trying to corrupt others with your idiocy. have a nice day

  • At first it wasn't your posts reply so why you don't post about video but not put your nose where it shouldn't be?

Secondly, I surely know what was in plastic bag cause I'm physicist :) So "stop posting stuff that will make you look smart (even though it doesnt) and trying to corrupt others with your idiocy."

    Best regards

  • haha, replying to an aold comment? Ah well, at least we have someone commenting that actually knows what they are talking about. I just hate people that comment and I like to point out their flaws :D. what can i say, im curious and like to learn things, and often people cant learn without putting their nose in things. lata

  • be careful when 'pointing out their flaws' sometimes your flaws can be much bigger than your 'target's'. At the age 44 I would have much more experience in life and more advanced interests than just reading comments on youtube and look for a flaws. no offence

  • awsome
