I need help! I dont know what is wrong with my 5 gen classic ipod. I over charged it for a little over 5 hours and now the battery drains like crazy, all of my songs skip, and itunes cant recongize it. Do i need the battery replaced im guessing or is it something else? Thank you

@Ghero48 Sounds like a logic board (aka Main Electronics Board). If your iPod has problems with battery life and it is not recognized by iTunes when you plug it into the computer, that is a logic board issue 80% of the time. I would not waste time on installing a battery. We do have a Diagnosis / Repair service available on our website.

@DhideMagic1 The tool in the video is an older version of what are called Spudgers, these are small plastic tools with thin tips. They are basically the same tools as the iPod Opening Tools for sale on our website. We also one Spudger tool with any order placed for parts to be installed by the customer. There is also a metal version called the Metal Opening Tool, I highly recommend the metal tool in addition to the plastic Spudgers. When opening an iPod Photo/Video or Classic they are great.

I am wondering if you can help me repair my 2nd gen iPod touch. Here's the problem: The bottom of the ipod gets extremely hot whenever playing games or surfing for an extended amount of time and the ipod completely freezes. After shutting it off by holding the home button and the sleep/wake button, I have to wait a few hours before I can turn in on again, and by then the battery is dead. In addition I'm looking to replace the screen, battery, speaker, and fix the sleep and volume buttons.

@DigiExpress If it helps this only happens when the sound is turned on and the ipod has no headphones. My theory is that the damaged speaker is causing the device to overheat somehow. Because if the volume is muted without headphones, the device performs as it should; and there has never been a problem with the headphones plugged in.

@yangstrike13 That may be the case, where a solder joint from the loudspeaker has become damaged and is making contact with parts that are not to be connected. However that is not a common issue, though your assumption does make sense. We would still have to see this in front of a technician to be certain on anything. Are you sure this iPod does not have water or moisture damaged?

@DigiExpress I am not certain as to whether or not the device has any water damage; but I would say it is very possible just by judging its physical condition and some other minor issues the device has. For instance, the screen is discolored in some areas (with white spots that can only be seen in daylight). Also, the the sleep/wake and the volume buttons are all tied; each one sleeps the iPod. If water damage is the cause of these malfunctions, will they be fixable? Just from an expert opinion?

my ipod will not turn on at all. whe I plug it into the computer it flashes a gray screen and on the computer, it says the hardware is not working properly. I have tried it on many computers and have the same results. Its a Ipod nano 3rd generation. It also has a small dent in the back, I think that may be the problem.

@4512376 The dented backplate could be the cause of the issue. The iPod Nano 3rd gen is particularly difficult to open without damage the backplate itself. The white screen and hardware failure messages together could be simply a malfunctioning LCD screen; though it could also be a problem with the logic board. The logic boards for any iPod nano are simply not available to have repaired cost effectively. If you were to replace the LCD screen you would need to replace the backplate as well.

@4512376 A white LCD screen could be the LCD screen or the Logic board. The "White screen of death" is a reference to Microsoft's Windows Operating System having a "Blue Screen of Death". The device you have cannot properly output data to the LCD screen either because the logic board itself is damaged or because the LCD screen has been damaged. The only way to tell, other than examining the logic board for defects is to replace the LCD screen with a known-good unit.

I already have a spare headphone jack kit for my ipod classic, would it be possible to send my ipod in along with the headphone jack unit and have it installed?

between the glass and the lcd there is a bunch of greasy stuff....i wiped it all off and now the screen wont respond when touched...any way to fix that? like, can i use vegetable oil or something? plz help

@fretshr3dder I have seen in some cases the "oil" is a by product of manufacturing and should not affect the digitizer (touch sensitivity). I do NOT suggest putting any type of vegetable oil or the like on or in the device. You may want to check your connections and be careful upon re-assembly. I have not heard of this issue before, that the "oil" would affect functions.

@Locklin100 If your ihome is having the iPod charge then the battery should be ok. And the LCD screen sounds like it is working. What seems to be the problem? When you take it off the dock does it turn off and you can not turn it back on? I found this to be much harder than it looks even with a similar tool to that pictured. It is very hard to get a tool inserted into the tight interface in the first place. The area near the hold switch was looser than everywhere else in my experience. I ended up prying with butter knives!

btw there's a setting on the ipod to set the backlight.. you can make it stronger.... try it.. maybe it's set to a small value.

the back light is built in to the LCD screen, so if you were to buy a new LCD and install it should fix your problem.
