this is truly great this helped we great Btw just wondering is there a point to holding the stick like to do in your left hand or is it just something u do
Beginners, you do not want to spend much practice time doing this unless you already have a firm grasp of rudiments, accents, linear and otherswise phrasing...etc
Wow this is very helpful I have been laying drums for fourteen years and I think you summed up the basic in 3 min. Thats aweesome.......Really great way to learn solos!
Probably the best instructional on the fundamentals drum soloing I've ever seen! Basic, Simple, Melodic and FUN! Getting around the kit, HITTING the drums firmly, following specific patterns, learning improvisation and feel! Great stuff!!!
As long as the timing of what you're doing is right, then you don't need good chops. Drumming is all about timing. If you have no chops and good timing, then no matter what you play, it will sound 'right'. Keep the flow going forward (the timing moving ahead all the time) and the chops will 'make themselvs'. To keep the timing going forward, slam the left heel down on the downbeats. This helps. Make it a habit.
Someone who plays solid time yet lack of any feel , to me, is usually less acceptable than someone with some decent feeling grooves yet less than up to par timing. I suppose neither are really good. :)
@themikester94 - Hey, you're right. I completely read your sentence wrong. There were no periods, so I read the last part as, "this guy is a retard". Now I see what you were saying. I understand why you would be upset. By the way, this my friend in the video, so don't think bad of him. He didn't know I did that until afterward and he didn't get to see your comment. Could you please repost it? I'm going to unblock you in either case. By the way, I think you're a good drummer, but I was mad.
Nice man, i was trying to figure out how to do a drum solo this is very nice !

Thanks Bill, I'm totally going to default to the floor tom solo if I choke! I hope I don't need to, but it's a great safety net.
thevikingdrummer 1 year ago
I like your ideas, but how do you make it sound cool without those chops. You have advanced chops that some people (like me, haha) don't have yet.
