No need to process or mix it...that's what makes the old house sound 10x better than all of this new "house" bullshit. It's OVER processed nowadays and so boring, sounds like everyother song out there.... it doesn't have that unique feel to it like it once did. That SOUL
Oh this is the winner over Beat It for me, thanks for sharing both tracks! I wish these old tracks were available for WAV purchase, the old vinyl is all collectors prices, tends to sound rough/worn out, and the mp3 rips out there sound crap.....
@inducejack It's a juno 6 or 60 triggered off a 707, Larry did an interview somewhere where he said it was a juno and those two are the only two in the series that have an arpeggiator
About this EP, I bought a copy some months ago but with Yellow labels, I tought it was the original one; I've been sad to learn that the original one is with white labels, rarer and most expansive! :/ (already gave a lot of money for the yellow one!)
seeing were on the subject of books, heres 2 that are absolutely essential reading!
CLASS OF 88 - WAYNE ANTHONY
a comprehensive trip down memmory lane with regards to all the illegal acid house parties, pirate radio stations, and more!
ONCE IN A LIFETIME - JANE BUSSMAN
fantastic insight to acid rave culture including dress sense, parties, and a full run down of all the tracks that were kicking the uk,s arse at the time!
now why aint i surprised Leon? LOL!..did you find them interesting to read? by the way, ive finally got round to doing my page on here! im well chuffed!..lol
Hi tam, I did indeed find them a very interesting read! Very informative etc. Some of the tunes they listed were a bit obvious, but I was expecting that!
youre right but i cant help thinking it was to do with the uk scene! either way the acid rave scene was much bigger over here than in chicago at the time!...dj frankie bones couldnt believe his eyes when he played to 5000 people in 1989 at an ENERGY RAVE!
i even know the promoters who did the big outdoor field raves, TONY COLSTON-HAYTOR...SUNRISE / TIN TIN....ENERGY/ and JARVIS SANDY...BIOLOGY! not to mention the security they used too 'BULLGUARD SECURITY', went to school with the lad that run this!
and last but not least, i use to live in ALPERTON where i use to play table tennis in a youth center with my good old friend -funky dread himself 'JAZZY B' from SOUL 2 SOUL! i was a lil 18 year old at the time! ahhhh!...lol
actually he use to kick my arse! he didnt have dreadlocks at the time mind you....LOL! hes on tour in Japan with Karen Wheeler i think!
hey Leon, table tennis?...hehe! be warned - i have a killer backspin serve!..lmao!
my life has always been surrounded by music my friend, soul, jazzfunk, rnb, jazz, electro, reggae, and lastly chicago acid house! i really dont know anything else! glad to share my memmories with you bud!
one more thing! it was MUSIC POWER RECORDS, that was in charge of PULSE FM 90.6...a pirate radio station i was on in the 1990.
and it was that shop that most artists use to visit! they had everything on white label let me tell you! thats where i bought my ONLY WANT TO BE - JAMES JACK RABBIT from! £4.99 it cost me!..lol
on PULSE FM, i had the morning show at 08.00-10.00am in the morning and THE ARTFUL DODGER was on after me! he produced CRAIG DAVIDS 'REWIND'..
Cool! I know that London used to have all the best pirate radio stations back in the day.*Sob*.The best(and most well known in Nottingham)back in the day was called Heatwave Radio.
As for The Artful Dodger/Craig David team-up...we should probably keep quiet about! LOL
also the influence can be heard from the MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA...jazz fusion band of the 70,s if my memmory serves me! we musnt forget that Larry was quite a prominent keyboardist too and could play his hand at a few intsruments also, ie sax and drums!
one of the very first tunes NOT to use a 303, but the ROLAND JUNO KEYBOARD for the bassline!
very experimental in the clubs back in the day! alongside tracks like 'R U HOT ENOUGH' and 'FREE YOURSELF'...Larry was heavily influenced by japanese orchestrated music back then! amazed?...so was i when he told me in 1988 in a shop called MUSIC POWER RECORDS in HARRINGEY! Also met DJ PIERRE there too!..
LOL.! you gotta remember Leon, these boys were normal everyday people like me and you at the time! even though Larry made 8 releases before 1988(i think)..lol, it was only 'CAN YOU FEEL IT' that gave him recognition worldwide!
DJ PIERRE was staying with my friend DJ JINX at the time..
and a year later met DERRICK MAY in the same shop and got my RELICS LP TRANSMAT(canvas cover) auotgraphed by him!
KISS FM DJ NICK POWER owned the shop so yeah, he had some wicked contacts!..and i was a regular!
do you notice i hardly do ONE LINE REPLIES to your posts! i have alot to say coz its the people ive met over the years that have influenced me and fire up my soul with passion! its not acid house Leon - its a way of life!...i remember when larry was in the shop - we hid his glasses and he said 'well thats it! my careers over - i cant play what i cant see' we all burst out laughing!...he also said that TRAFALGAR SQUARE was a great place to do a gig! great memmories for sure!
Yep...I noticed that you always nearly write quite a lot! I am sure many reading your replies/comments really enjoy what you have to say/your trip down memory lane etc. :).
You are da man! Thank you once again for your contribution!
i was one of there favorite customers coz i spent £100.00 every week for 3 years in that shop! DJ NICK POWER got sacked from KISS FM thats why he opened the shop!...other artists i met were STEVE SILK HURLEY, BAD BOY BILL(he gave me a cd of one of his mixes from WBMX) MARSHALL JEFFERSON when he visited DADDY KOOL RECORDS in London and LARRY LEVAN when i was visiting my niece in NEW YORK in 1985..Same year she took me to the PARADISE GARAGE! remember i told u that in an email i sent you!

it's a well known fact that larrys earlier work was hugely influential to aphex. check out analord 2 which is a sort of tribute to his influence
