thanks so much for uploading this! one of my favorite vhs horror rentals as a kid! i can't believe it's not out on US dvd yet. i miss the old independent video rental stores where you could find cool movies like this, netflix and redbox just don't have the charm of the bizarre obscure collections. but luckily we have cool fans like you that take the time to share the good stuff on youtube and torrent sites.
Why in the fuck did someone upload a digitally remastered version of this film?! That totally destroys the atmosphere. Put the grainy, gritty, gloomy looking VHS version complete with a ever deteriorating film master up, that's the way this film SHOUD look.
@HeilleZanAllezVous In the VHS copy that I saw as a kid, some of the father's lines in the basement were removed, as well as the brief conversation with the mother. When the father says "Answer me!" it cuts directly to "and may the lord have mercy on your soul!" Then, after the first close-up of the clown doll, it cuts directly to when the creepy music starts up again and the father is walking throught the hall. I have to admit I think it worked better that way, but I thank you for this copy.
Great movie, easily Umberto Lenzi's greatest achievment of the mid-late 80s (and beyond, for that matter). One of the most atmospheric horror films of all time.
This is like the third time i've watched the movie but I never understood who the killer was of the parents.... My best guess is the crazy guy that takes care of the house?
ok what the heck did she kill and omg not another creepy clown doll thanks to that other movie i saw that had a clown doll who grabed that litle boy and pulled under the bed i have been scared of clowns since the young age of six omg that looks like the same clown doll from that creepy movie yuck I hate clowns and creepy dolls and thoose dolls on the strings and thoose dolls you shove your hands in to make them talk
@Wickedblackjuggalo19 It probably is from Tobe Hooper's / Steven Spielberg's "Poltergeist", the clown is very similar. I say probably because I have'nt seen Scary Movie 2.
First time I saw this was at a friends's birthday party. I think I was 9 or so at the time. Scared the crap out of me! For some reason my parents thought it would be cool if I saw all the horror movies out at the time (Halloween, Jason, Freddy, etc), but this one scared me the most and gave me nightmares for a long time! Lol even now I still have dreams of demons and Freddy coming after me lol and I'm 29.
Holy mother of... This movie scared me forever... Thanks for uploading. i bought it on VHS (freakin hard to find!!) to be able to get over it by watching it over and over again... didnt worked! still scared like a little school girl... i think i still see it with me 12 years old eyes... i'm havaing a hard time watching it right now... wow... thank you so much, i've been dying to show it to some friends of mine!! :)
Been dying to see this movie! I just noticed the part where the mom(?) gets her throat slit, the music in the background is from Stage Fright, the track is called "Fish Dreams"!
I remember seeing this at a birthday party when I was like 9 or 10 years old and it scared the crap out of me. Lol now it's kinda funny. Hopefully youtube won't remove it!
om gawwwd!! i watched this as a little girl and i thought it was freakin scary!! Now since im older, this movie is sooooo cheesy!!! lol but i still love its weirdness!!

Take Notice, Umberto Lenzi was a very consistant Director over 2 and a half decades. He may not have the reknowned career highpoints like Argento had with Profondo Rosso, or Suspiria, but Lenzi has always kept his signature abrupt violence and skill at creating tension (with absurd imagery) at a consitant pace. Gialli, Slasher, Thriller, Crime, or Zombie Film: he has made every genre.
Ghosthouse is a fine example of late 1980's Eurohorror. A jumbled but entertaining flick.

Since "Poltergeist" took place before this film I'm thinking this clown was one of Spielberg's props or they made a clown like his from Poltergeist.

The doll song sounds like it is saying "Hey, Rob. Hey, Rob. Are you there?" over and over.
radioblueheart 1 year ago 2
@radioblueheart
That's funny cause Rob (Robbie), is the name of Carol Ann's brother in Poltergeist and he has a doll that look quite the same!

I knew the doll and the stuff flying around the room stuff was a take on Poltergeist, but that gives it a new dimension.
