  • Class act

  • not just an amazing actor, but also an amazing human being.

  • Tommy lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Viggo Mortensen, Daniel Day Lewis,...great actors.

  • @2tame4fame you forgot Ryan Gosling

  • hard to recognize him without the mustache

  • Lewis for Joker role?........

  • @MultiHollywoodYoutub no way DDL would do a comic book movie, lol.

  • @piratebri True haha

  • To think he is going to be playing lincoln in the martin scorsese film just makes me fucking angry i have to wait too see it....They should just give him the oscar already none is going to beat it.

  • @MovieHound17

ITs a Spielberg movie not a scorsese one. Scorsese is trying to get DDL for a movie called "Silence". Spielberg's LIncoln film is either almost finished shooting or done. DDL looks really convincing as LIncoln..hopefully, he was able to pull off the voice which according to everyone who met LIncoln and wrote about him, was somewhat high-pitched, twangy, and shrill.

  • He is a very soft spoken and intelligent man and i respect him far beyond his amazing acting ability

  • I bet Brokeback Mountain made him cry!

  • nobody can beat ddl. best actor of all time. humble.

  • Simply put : Daniel Day Lewis is the best living actor today. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • How fucking pissed off would be after finding out you had been nominated for this award, only to find out that Daniel Day Lewis had been, as well. Gutted.

  • @Mr01001010

    Him and Robert De Niro.

  • @Ronaldinhoo11 Him, the Niro, and Gary Oldman.

  • @sssc6092

Yes, Gary Oldman is a very underated actor. He is extremely versatile.

  • @sssc6092 Him, Pacino, Oldman and Washington.

  • 1:45 John Travolta's drugged out face

  • and the actor goes to?

  • I like the audience faces after Daniel's part..... it was like "God , this guy is cool" )

  • Is Viggo sitting next to his mom!?

  • Class = Daniel Day Lewis!

  • I weeped!

  • ..and the actor IS...Daniel Day-Lewis

  • a real class actor, the best..

  • serious line up , but daniel deserved the cake

  • Daniel Day-Lewis is an excellent actor, whatever that means. And I'm sure he's a very nice person. But there's no doubt about it he's a fucking psycho. I don't know if that's necessary but he really is scat.

  • daniel day lewis and viggo gave excellent performances that year

  • "And the actor goes to...."

  • Daniel was looking completely different in there will b blood

  • "Formula for success: rise early, work hard, strike oil" John P. Getty

  • The classiest man there is.

  • she said actor instead of oscar!!hahah

  • @17Gabrielam It was an 'actors guild award' - referred to as an 'actor'... as opposed to 'Oscar'. Read the title of the video dude.

  • Along with the wonderful Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, Daniel Day Lewis is the best actor ever. And it´s actually great to hear someone talking about Heath´s performance in Monster´s Ball. Everyone always talks about The Dark Knight.

  • Wadsworth Constant * 2

  • I bet they all knew they lost after that lady said Daniel Day Lewis in showed that clip!!! Fuckin Brilliant.

  • this guy is a fucking king.

  • Great guy.

  • Greatest Living Actress - Meryl Streep

Greatest Living Actor - Daniel Day-Lewis

  • fuck george clooney

  • @catalinaguerrero fuck emile hearsh

  • wat scene was he talking about

  • Well done Lewis! He's got such heart!

  • it is truly staggering he manages to produce the character of Bill Cutting in Gangs of New York, and then presents himself as such a humble man. One of the greatest talents ever to emerge, hands down.

  • @Mr01001010 I dunno..Gary Oldman is alive too lol

  • Heath Ledger is the modern James Dean, only better

  • kudos, good job!

  • @Mr01001010 That distinction would go to De Niro; and everyone from James Woods to Meryl Streep, including Daniel Day Lewis himself, agree to that.

  • i'm sorry but uhrm..why is matthew m. presenting to DANIEL DAY LEWIS? or any of the nominees? this ...no.

  • bill the butcher is a brit? amazing

  • "and the actor goes to...." lmfao

  • You have to wonder... moving as this speech may be,

    Is Daniel here also... ACTING?

  • @Nepenthe13 he is acting :D

  • @zsozso166

And this you guys know how?

  • @ShannonSam1 I don't....he may be just acting like himself...if he is i like him

  • wow ... all i can say. selfless

  • Anyone want to explain why Hirsch wasn't at least nominated for an Oscar for Into the Wild?

  • He must have been so pissed when DiCaprio broke his nose

  • @bobdy9988

dicaprio didn't break his nose. He broke his nose in the scene in Gangs of New York when he headbutted dicaprio's character while he was splayed out on the table. A dummy was used as a stand-in (with sand in it , I believe)...DDL headbutted the dummy a little too realistically and broke his own nose. He finished the scene with a bloodied and broken nose-- that's devotion. Not the first time...while training for the movie, the Boxer, he broke his nose a couple times as well.

  • Viggo should have won. He doesnt even have to speak and his eyes, mannerisms and body tell the entire story.

  • So what has Daniel Day Lewis played in like 5 movies in his entire life?

  • @MajBlood

No he hasnt been in only 5 films. 16 major features with notable role and a few bit parts in movies like Gandhi...In his early days, there were several BBC films (which are tough to find unless you live in England). He was a stage actors for the first 10 years of his career.

He is not exactly prolific, but within those 16 feature films is a hell of range.

  • @MajBlood and yet has 2 oscars and over 70 something awards.

  • @1992gabe Ja, strange eh?

  • Daniel Day Lewis should just win everything he's nominated for, it should be like a rule. So talented.

  • Newland ARcher!

  • and the actor goes to...? what the fuck

  • Apparently McConaughey cant read...

  • am I the only one who thinks George Clooney is an over-rated actor? There is zero depth to that guy's preformance. His character's are clones in mannerisms, speech and thought-process

  • @su79er I actually see what you're talking about. I think his charisma carries him, he's just such a likable guy. He's a competent actor, but he is over-rated.

  • @su79er

Agreed. Real good acting, like above normal, is characters which behaves and looks special. Like the one in the Godfather, The Joker and this.

  • @su79er He is a decent actor but no more. Entirely agree with your comment about him being over-rated.

  • @su79er I ALSO DONT LIKE CLOONEY!...YES HE IS VERY CHARMING AND CARSIAMTIC...BUT HIS FAME HIS NOT ACODING TO HIS TALENTS....HE ISNT AT TH LEVEL OF DICAPRIO, DAY-LEWIS,ETC

  • @su79er agreed. i can understand a few understated characters, but *all* of his roles require no real substance. He plays himself in every movie and, as a young girl, I think he's overrated in the 'sexy' department as well.

  • @TheHuntress144 As a young girl - you know nothing about decent acting. Who cares if you don't find him sexy? no one cares.

  • @toured87 No cares about you either. *gasp* You're comments are just as irrlevant as anyone else's. Clooney is overrated get the hell over it.

  • @su79er yes zero depth, none. Thus him being well respected by oh.. everyone who makes movies. Why does your specific personality, which exaggerates your opinions ie: zero depth, And against the vast majority of laudable professional people involved in movies, never preface their opinion with."I am probably wrong here but i find George clooney blah blah blah." Instead your the center of the world. zero depth is what your opinion is. Hey maybe im wrong,

  • @su79er

  • He is a TERRIBLE actor - he has coasted on fame for about 15 years.

  • @ItBrandonSilver

Day-Lewis? You should see a doctor....

  • @ItBrandonSilver Are you talking about Daniel Day Lewis?

  • No, that MOTHERFUCKER George Clooney. You Dumbass Americans should learn how to read.

  • @ItBrandonSilver First of all Im not American, Second of all you should learn to read cause you dont reference who you're talking about at all in your comment, and lastly.........MAKE SURE YOU DONT LOOK LIKE AN INBRED STUPID CUNT BEFORE YOU INSULT SOMEONE ELSE YOU MOTHERFUCKING RETARDED APE.

  • @su79er Obviously he isn't DDL but seriously?? You haven't watched his films or buy into the whole good looking guy thing. He is a seriously talented actor. Watch his performances in Michael Clayton, Syriana and Up In The Air. He is truly talented and also a great writer/director. He also said, when doing the actors roundtable with DDL, Jolie, Mcavoy, Cotillard (it was 2007 if you want it) that he is a god to other actors. If he says that about DDL he certainly knows what great acting is like!

  • @iloveneytiri I think its a case of having a different measurement of what talented for me a talented actor is one who delves so deep into the psyche of his character that you forget you're watching actor A...etc...I've yet to watch a Clooney movie, where I'm not thinking .."this is Clooney" that's not comparing him DDL but to many of his contemporaries who've yet to amass the same attention despite have superior skills he's the Cary Grant of our generation.

  • @su79er But is it a case of buying into the way the media portray him? For example in Up In The Air he is utterly brilliant. It's a perfect zeitgeist film with a great script but his performance is exceptional. But people were saying 'its Clooney playing Clooney' which is just drivel. I've seen a lot of films. Whilst Day Lewis is my favourite actor and the best actor i've seen Clooney is still a tremedous talent. And the films he writes/directs are great. Watch him in burn after reading/clayton

  • @su79e Also Day Lewis isn't a media personality. He does a role and you watch him become that person. Whereas Clooney is like Pitt, Jolie, Depp etc. Mega famous so when you're watching him its always in the back of your mind you're watching 'george clooney' either way Day Lewis is superior. But check out 'The Actors Roundtable' its the one with Jolie, Day Lewis and Clooney and you can tell the mutual respect is there between them. Also when Day Lewis won his 2nd Oscar he went straight to Clooney

  • I hear a lot of people saying that they really want DDL and Phillip Seymour Hoffman to share a screen, but lets get real. I think him and Russel Crowe would be amazing. Viggo Mortensen, Jeff Daniels Gary Oldman, Denzel. Those would be the ones I would really love to see. All the masters like Deniro, Duvall, Gene Hackman, Pacino are, I hate to say. Past their prime.

  • Lewis is the bomb

  • ddl is pure class

  • Daniel Day Lewis is the one and only!

He can completely detach himself from every character and every performance he gives is extraordinary! I think it's really touching he's dedicating it to Heath Ledger he was an extraordinary actor too!

  • Heath was legit, but nowhere near THE Daniel Day-Lewis...he's probably the best actor of the past 25 years

  • heath ledger was very good, but NOWHERE near DDL

  • i want to make love with him

  • Emile Hirsch and Heath were also fantastic, but they had some unbeatable competition. Into the Wild, TWBB and the dark knight are all fantastic though

  • In soviet Russia, Oscar gets actor

  • "and the actor goes to"...? What, the oscar gets the actor, not the other way around?

  • @cheifRA This isn't the Oscars, its the Screen Actors Guild awards. At SAG, the award is referred to as "the actor".

  • I JUST LOVE HIM!!!!!!

  • Such a gentleman.

  • why the hell hasnt daniel been elected for sexiest man alive?? he is so attractive. he got older, sure but we all have. hes still sexy :)

  • @TheHipster15 omg, im soooo with you on this!!! i believe he is the sexiest man ever!! and in his case, its not just phisical gorgeousness. some kind of sexy power comes from the inside.

  • @vicipagup i know he is!! it really stinks he hasnt gotten the award :( yes all of his movies you get the sexy vibe just the way he walks talks etc. Its amazing! Im glad we share a mutual liking to him :) lets me know im not the only girl out there that thinks so!

  • "well said" Heath was so believable in his roles he was as good an actor as Tom Hanks.

  • One of my favourite fellow Irish people.

  • @beau25byah after smoking a joint

  • does he have a broken nose?

  • @jlistetson he did. Him an leo had a fight scene in GONY and he let leo punch him for real, and his nose broke. Thats what i heard anyway.

  • @1992gabe

not true...Leo confirmed that he did not break DDL's nose...

DDL broke his nose on the dummy that was there to replace Leo when Bill the BUtcher head-butted the injured Amsterdam character splayed out on the table. An extra said that DDL went on with the scene even after his nose was broken and blood was gushing down his face...That's a true story.

  • @ShannonSam1 i didn't hear that, thanks for that. I heard leo broke his nose, but i didn't know if it was true or not. Now i know. DDL is still a psycho regardless, which is what makes him a great actor (The best).

  • @1992gabe

"Psycho" is a little strong...I prefer the word "obsessive' or 'eccentric'. I don't think he'd be committed to an asylum against his will for that. He didn't break his nose on purpose ( the dummy's head supposedly had some kind of stuffing in it...I think he thought it would be softer than it was so he just went for it. He was wrong--it must have been padded in there pretty tightly)

  • @ShannonSam1 this man becomes every character he portrays, there is some explanation that is psychological. his methods of acting can be an outrage, but thats what makes him daniel day lewis.

  • @1992gabe

What makes him DDL is his talent...

quote from him about his process....

"You change the process of your thoughts. You change, if you can, your stance, your movement and so on. I mean, there's no end to the possibilities. Human beings are very, very adaptable. But what goes on at the center is always you." He doesn't lose himself entirely--he once called it a partnership between himself and his character with himself being the silent partner. Its psychological, not necessarily crazy

  • @ShannonSam1 i meant psycho as an exageration, i would never lable this man crazy, if anything he is a genius. But his methods of acting seem a little psychological, almost fooling the mind into becoming an illusion of how he pictures his character. There was another rumour that he refused treatment for pneumonia, which he got from refusing a heavier jacket becuase of the time period they were in. he still got treatment, but just the fact he was willing to risk his health is true dedication.

  • What a classy man. Of course a brilliant actor. Nine was not as bad as everyone said. Guido, Guido!

  • @beau25byah Dinner in a diner? Or diner in a dinner....

  • yeah i really wish there was someone who could replace joker r.i.p heath ledger

  • "Lars and the Real Girl" with RG is one of the most clever unique films I've ever seen, and I'm annoyingly picky and have excruciating high standards. Kudos to the talented people/artists who made the film happen.

  • Best actor of last 25 years End of the Story ...

  • Haha hilarious clap in 1:55

  • Now thats #winning!

  • umm javier looked hot!

  • You can tell by the cheers, 0:13 and 1:07, that Daniel and Viggo were the two favorites here, and when you watch the films, it's easy to see why.

  • Daniel Day Lewis, this man is very classy. A nice nod and still respectful of a fellow actor.

  • 4:07! Ahhh Cate Blanchett! <3

  • I saw this when it first aired... it was just so... appropriate.

A lot of us in different corners of the world were still very much feeling the loss of Heath on the night of the SAG Awards.

This speech was the closest we had to a public eulogy for Heath, and it was presented with perfect gracefulness and graciousness by an actor's actor and a true gentleman, the great Daniel Day-Lewis.

  • thats what they call class!!

  • Look at all the faces just after the "I've abandoned my child" part at 0.25, especially Angelina Jolie... And at 0.28 she realizes, "Camera! Smile!"

  • Look at all the faces just after the "I've abandoned my child" part at 0.25, especially Angelina Jolie...

  • sorry but why does he dedicate his award to heath ledger? i know it's because he died but why? what is the link between them?

  • @laistar, dude, the dark knight was still in post-production at the time of DDL's speech at the SAGs in the video. It wasn't even released yet. Your ignorance offends me.

  • was he referring to the Dark Knight trailer?

  • @laistar No, he means the scene at the end of Brokeback Mountain where Heath Ledger is in his trailer (Like a small house, not a movie advert trailer like you're thinking of) :P

  • @conanmammoth oh ty:) I'm sure he was proud of the joker character too.

  • ohhh what to say about heath ledger so many things ill just leave it at WHAT A MAN

  • He has agreed for the Lincoln role?

  • @MrSeduction7

Yes, he has agreed...They start shooting in autumn.

  • daniel is such a brilliant actor and such a good human being, that he givin a tribute to heath is so touching. this is what we need in hollywood, more people like daniel and heath.

  • how he gave anger like that kneeling down is beyond me...

  • heath ledger was a daniel day lewis in the making

  • @midnightmaniclk92 yea in 30 plus years Heath would be his age

  • @midnightmaniclk92 Let's not get carried away dude.

  • @midnightmaniclk92 Heath Ledger was Heath Ledger.

  • @midnightmaniclk92 Never. EVER. Will anyone be as good as Daniel Day-Lewis :)

  • @midnightmaniclk92 Let's not go too far.

  • Class act.

  • Fuck, my favourite actor dedicating his award to my other favourite actor.

    Couldn't be more proud.

  • Can't wait to see him play Abe Lincoln...

  • An uncompromisingly good actor, actually the best; but always tempered with humility and respect. This guy is simply at the very top of all actors in ability and decorum.

  • Daniel Day Lewis is a freakin beast when it comes to acting.Dam he younger than he looks when he's not on the big screen.!!!!!!!

  • all of the nominees were fuckin AMAZING THAT Year But Daniel still thes best though..<3

  • 0:25 angelina thinkin "oh shit i'm on screen Smile ANGIE SMILE!!"
