@tigerone1970 WHY? I voted for him. He works for "We The People." It is for we the people to hold him accountable. I will criticize him just like anyone else and so should you. Wasn't it he that said something to the effect of "we should be loyal to ideals and NOT people?"
Who says Barack Obama isn't accountable? The rightwing strategy is to try and make people 'disappointed with Obama', to suppress voter turnout. And you have seen the result in Wisconsin and Ohio.
The Obama Administration didn't cause the oil spill. The liberties allowed to big business have been written into law to a great extent. Thanks to 8 years of the 'CEO President' - George Bush, not Barack Obama. No regulatory oversight.
@Divinity33372: That is so true. I may have supported him not long after the '08 elections, but I too have been rather critical of Obama's timidity, unwillingness to take a stand, and sometimes, I feel, cowardice{no offense}.........and I'm honestly wondering if perhaps someone like Anthony Weiner or Dennis Kucinich might be able to do a better job. With that said, though, I do believe the administration has done some good.......but will there be enough time to undo Bush's B.S.?
Wait a minute, all I heard time n time again was "oh BP subcontracted Haliburton that did faulty work on the cement so 'that's' why this happened (ie those dirty Republicans).
Now things are getting changed up ?
Just to clarify I'm a small government Republican economic progressive environmentalist, but I'm a anti globalist (a paleo) so I want domestic markets as well as clean energy and oil is a market product.
So why is this a partisan thing ? haliburton oil spill = bullwinkle!
This is just bullshit. Not bullshit in the sense that I don't think it's real but bullshit that it's happening at all. There was another video out there about how there's still mess from the Exxon Valdez spill. I can't remember what it's called but it's here on youtube. They don't clean the shit up. They just block the media and the public from seeing it. Fucking mother fuckers.
It's cause the Obama administration is a bunch of pussies! Sorry, I like the ideas. BUT if you're GONNA be a bunch of pussies... You don't need to have a position. Cause you're gonna be too chicken-shit to defend it anyway. Hi! We're Democrats *insert foot here* and we'll give you your way!
@happysplodie Concerning big oil the left vs right thing is nothing more then a distraction but I wouldn't expect someone who comes on my thread and calls a whole group of people "pussies" to know this.
I like Maddow, yet I also cant stand to listen to her because she takes forever to get to a point. It pisses me off how much beating around the bush she does.
We dont need so much analogy and metaphor, dangit.
Then she always sounds way too passionate about every word. I like passionate people, but shes just raising my heartrate without actual benefit due to her winding road to the point.
The sad thing is that this is nothing new. I recently watched a movie from 1974 where some politically active teenagers are talking about politicians who are bought and paid for by oil companies. Has anything changed? Nope. Gotten worse. Now as the economy worsens, it will actually be easier for them to buy elections because they have the cash to finance campaigns.
@Divinity33372 It was not a documentary. It was from a "left wing" fictional film series called Billy Jack (which was actually one of the biggest hits of the earl7 70s). But even back then, they were onto the oil companies involvement in politics.
The lawsuit against Exxon over the 1998 Valdez spill finally concluded about 3 years ago. A fifth of the 22,000 plaintiffs have died waiting for this -- 10% of the damage done to them. Some people on the cleanup crews died. Others are still sick today. One similarity between these two situations is that the cleanup people were not allowed to wear protective masks. If the company allowed it, it would be admitting their necessity, which would be admitting how very toxic the spills actually are.
Well, when this country finally does collapse in on itself like the Roman empire did, the rest of the world will be a better place. ::Singing Monty Python:: "Always look on the bright side of life..."
We got to pull out all the cash we can to stop the Koch Brothers. The Koch Brothers are a bigger threat to America than anyone outside our borders. They've got a lot of money and they're going to do their best to attack us. We've got to give until it hurts to stop the Koch Brothers.
Anyone who expected Obama to do anything for anyone other than corporate America is a fool. The truth is nobody cares what happens to the environment so long as they can live the "American Dream",
The best definition of the "Am. Dream" that I ever heard is, "Make a lot of money, buy yourself a Cadillac and drive down the street giving everybody the finger."
@colourmegone I don't think it was unreasonable to think that Oboma would make a difference back in 08 but anyone that still thinks that now I agree is a fool, hes just as much in the back pocket of the corporations as bush was he just hides it better. Screw the republicans and the democrats we need a third party, not just independents but a whole new third party that will work for the people, the way the founders intended the government to work.
@Fireflygamer Anyone who considered Mr Obama's background could hardly mistake him for a reformer. He is a product of the Illinois Democratic machine, the people who sponsored Chicago's Mayor Daley, who also served as a state senator, and Al Capone. It's one of the most corrupt political machines in the country and it was no accident that the governor of the state put Mr Obama's office up for public auction the moment he left. The only question I have is how much it cost Mr Obama.
@colourmegone i live in illinois there are corrpt people yes but not that meny and there is no Democratic machine there is only the fact that there are more dems and there are coropt replicins to just like ever other state
@124mm10 You seem to have little understanding of your state's political history or it's current political reality. A political machine is not something that requires a mechanic, it's a network of fixers, politicians and those who support them.
I would suggest you begin by searching "political corruption in illinois" which will take you to various articles in the NYT and other sources.
@colourmegone i know my states political history and it's current political reality i also know what a political machine is and just because we had one in the past does not mean we have one now and by the way every state had a political machine ontill most were taken down by reformers look i know my state has a lot of corruption but so does every state and you talk about Al Capone well he was a gangster not a politician not to forget he was from New York not Chicago so maybe stop thinking about
@124mm10 Have you read my pm regarding this subject? The citations and quotes are too long for a comment so I'll just post this one, "But this is Illinois; as Robert Grant, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Chicago field office, told the press at the announcement of the indictment, "if it isn't the most corrupt state in the United States, it's certainly one hell of a competitor."
Time Magazine.
If you really believe that the Illinois machine no longer exists you're a naive fool.
@124mm10 I am a US citizen who lived and worked there until I left at age 35 for the UK. I understand US politics and culture much better than you do, and I can spell "really" and "know". You claim to know more than I do about the US but you can't even spell "American".
So you're not only a naive fool but an illiterate one as well.
@Divinity33372 I'm thinking in terms of the US political system which is run by power and patronage. I can't remember who said it but it's true nonetheless, "The Democrats and the Republicans are like two differently shaped bottles, but they're both empty." However the willful determination of the US electorate to vote in right wing demagogues is well established by history,.
I still maintain that Mr Obama is nothing more that a corrupt, machine politician.
