The industrial age is a short-lived period in history of over-consumption of age-old non-renewable resources. Its exponential growth culture will very soon turn into an exponential decay collapse even if some brilliant scientists should invent a new unlimited energy source because humanity can only thrive in a balanced natural environment, which we have lost a long time ago by mad growth. Ok the first bit of brain washing that they do is to make you think fossil fuel energy is the only energy .
Next they brainwash you into believing that energy is scarce.
Energy is like ....the air....and water.....we are living in a sea of energy.

@Jejulee : the revenue of the taxes on fossile fuels can also be directly redistributed equal share per capita as proposed by James Hansen (look for his letter to Obama pre elections), having a big part of them redistributed this way is probably the way to go, then the state/nation still needs a budget

Question: "We have to pay more[for energy]." To whom ? Qui bono? How is it of benefit to pay more to the corporations?
The technology--for extraction--is sufficient at this point in oil history; thus, what needs to be done is:
1. all natural resources and their extraction need to be nationalized; thus, the "whom" is US;
2. The "experts"/labor employed at a reasonable, socially responsible wage, as there will be no other employment.
The homicidal republican experiment has run its course.
