@queenlilly31687 It only hit #1 in August 1987 in the UK! My videos explicitly state at the beginning & end of each video that these #1 videos are based on the U.S. Billboard chart. My video descriptions also make reference to these songs topping the charts in the U.S. All people from other countries should pay attention to that, as songs often peaked at different times in different countries, and had different peak positions. Rick's song did peak at #1 in the U.S in 1988 ;)
it amazes me that the guy took the time to put together these awesome videos and all anyone can do is constantly challenge every song on every vid. just appreciate the videos and shut up! he clearly knows what he is doing. he got you to this page..
Every so often there is a run of just absolutley wonderful music and this happened to one of those periods when there was just a ton of great music released including many songs that did not hit #1. If you look at the Biollboard hot 100 for 1987 it is loaded with great music. Maybe some of the best from the 80's.
I used to be jealous of my brother because he got to go to the rock concerts back in the 80s. He was lucky to have been a teenager back in that awesome decade.
@Michaelloves80smusic "Living On A Prayer" hit #1 February 14, 1987, and this video is literal representation of when songs hit #1, it's not based on when songs were first recorded or released ;)
Open Your Heart... the first song I heard when I moved from Mexico to Houston, Livin on A Prayer I was running a hospital's oxygen system, I Knew You Were Waiting I was at an Acme employees reunion, I Wanna Dance with Somebody I was a pharmacist, Alone I was running a music box and collectibles shop, I Think We're Alone Now I smuggled a Dodge Daytona to Australia, and Time of My Life I was running a floral gift shop in NJ
This reminds me of my first car I bought in 87'....1972 Buick Electra that was painted green with a paint brush, wiring was messed up, it had a toggle switch for the headlights :D....the 455 ran great though, and that's all I cared.
weather seemed so cold late 1987, having a nice car was important and i did have a nice car, people of all ages were more mature-acting and less ragged out. drugs were out, getting ahead in life was in. people were attractive and not aggressive to each other and you cared what other people thought of you.
music was ruined by 1999 for me and it was people like eminem, justin timberlake, beyonce and mariah carey who ruined it. they are all so friggin nasty too but get called attractive.
@The096757 REAL TALK!!!!!! I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY THAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MY FRIEND!!!!! YEAH, PEOPLE NOWADAYS ARE FAKE, THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY AND I'M ONLY 30.
heart, grace slick and stevie nicks did some of these best music in the 1980s. it was a great time for rocker women and not hip hop hags.
you could not go into a store 1983-1989 without seeing someone who was drop dead gorgeous. now look how ugly people are now. some of it is the way they dress and bad attitude most of it is bad genes.
1981-1982 was not very good for music with some exceptions. home videos are the best way to see how people dressed not goofy hollywood movies.
@The096757 If it wasn't for this horrible, annoying Technology Electronic world we've been living and dealing with it for the last 10 years, then we would've been still in the 80s-early 90s world today.
@The096757 Hardly, Hip Hop didn't destroy music, the way music execs presenting music now a days is destroying music. Hip Hop, like any other genre of music, can be positive and have a message depending on the artist(s), like the Fugees or Arrested Development. It's just the music industry is not so much about discovering that next big talent but creating a popular image.
Weakest of those hits were "Cant stop loving you", "Shakedown", "Who's that girl", "Faith", and "Still havent found what I'm looking for". The rest pretty much rocked though.
@don417 The fact is, I made a video of songs that "hit" #1 in 1987, not anything else. I had no intention of being redundant with songs that carried over from the previous year, unless that song was #1 for more than 2 weeks in the following year. Anyone who wants to see "Walk Like An Egyptian" can see it in the previous year, when it hit number one ;)
@don417 Because "Walk Like An Egyptian" hit number one in 1986... and stayed number one for the first couple weeks of 1987... A song doesn't "hit" number one twice unless it loses the #1 position and then regains it later... Nowhere does it say in the video (or elsewhere) that "Shake You Down" was "the first number one of the year"... it's just the first song to hit #1 in 1987.
That year in music was awesome: I was 17 and I still remember how angry I was that Prince's "You Got The Look" peaked at number 2 (it so deserved to be No.1!).
So the Starship song for the movie "Mannequin", Tiffany and Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam all made no. 1 but U2's Where the Streets Have No Name didn't? That's robbery.
Haha, EVERYONE played that "Always" song at their wedding! good times...it's funny how every generation thinks their music was the best. I was 16 in 1987, personally I think these songs are mostly cheeeezy but I still love the crap out of them.
@DEchoded Tell me about it!! I graduated high school and joined the army. Served 22 years. I guess you could say im already retired! From the Army, anyways! LOL!!!
Really, you made an amazing job on this one. It's just a whole lot of memories and good music. How come you haven't done the same yet for the year 1994 and the following ones ?
@bsv628 In 1987, It was lovely days of my life. right time, I begun schooling in mogadishu, I hated too much listening in English songs since they were strange to me! after learning english, My mood changed and I found english songs my best favourite music ever!
@mjjforeverking yeah, i miss MICHAEL JACKSON as well. We are now , well the public is, that MICHAEL JACKSON would never have harmed a FLEA by his own drugged up words. He Loved CHILDREN but not in a way the media or accusors said he did. I always knew he was innocent of that behavior and his own words 6 weeks before he passed, he did tell the world why he loved children and what his plans were to help them in the future. WOW ! see media reports of trial for details. THANK YOU MJ. I LOVE U
this reminds me when you had to make mix tapes by recording songs off of the radio, and if you had a studio cassette tape you had to cover up the holes on the top
with a peice of tape or something so you could record over them.
Thumbs Up if you remember what Im talking about!!!
LOST IN EMOTION!! I will love you forever Lisa Lisa!! I remember roller skating to this classic back in the late 80's with my girlfriend. Great times indeed.
I was 16 in 1987. What a great time to grow up with music of this era. So many good memories. Anyone my age knows what I'm talking about. Wish I could go back.
@hawwkfan i was 17,just got my drivers license,cruisin around in my 69 chevelle ss...a different chick every nite,drag racing in philly,and south jersey,wow what fun that was.i am 40 now,4 kids big mortgage,rotten wife,55lbs.heavier,but i STILL HAVE THE CAR!!!!life is good!lol
@hawwkfan i was 15 in 87! probably one of the best years for music, i can't say it was for me personally! being as skinny as a toothpick, made fun of all the time, having to take so much medication, having to deal with having ADD, flunking a class in my freshman year. on the upside i think 87 was when New Kids On the Block first appeared, unknowns at the time, on Nickelodeon's Don't Just Sit There!
@SheffieldTiger i swear i had a HUUUUUGEE crush on her! WOW! her smile definitely went from ear to ear!!! that had to be the BESTEST song from 87!!! so many good songs in this vid!! Loved Lean On Me, Open Your Heart, Alone, and even Faith! i was a BIG Chicago and Huey Lewis fan during the 80s! then along came Bon Jovi and Guns n Roses! i almost forgot about Huey!
Remember the days, of listening to the top 40...with your blank tape all ready to record your fave song?/...hoping the dj wouldnt talk over the song u want to tape..lol..they were the days :D
You know, I recently read a creepypasta about an abandoned mall. When the text said it had been popular in the 80's, I started thinking of Tiffany and "I Think We're Alone Now" started playing in my head. Kinda killed the creep factor.
I was 16 years old 1987...and it was amazing times. 80:s was a magic time. Im glad i was a teenager back then. Not only the music was better, everything was.
@skruad I agree. EVERYTHING WAS BETTER. I was only a small kid in the 80's, but it was like a beautiful dream I never want to wake up from. I was happy, I loved all the cartoons like He Man and Muppet Babies and Inspector Gadget. I also loved Small Wonder and Mr. Belvedere and Nintendo and o - take me back to the 80's! Why did they ever end ????
@skruad I wish. I was 6 and very jealous of all teenagers at that time. By the time I hit teens, did I get bright colors and pop music? no. I was served a heaping helping of grunge....which has its merits, but man, the 80s were the best.
Poor young people don't know that music actually was music once - Note the variety? Alll on one chart? And who can forget the hits that didn't make No. 1 like Don't Dream its Over, Smokin' Gun, Keep Your Hands To Yourself etc. etc.
I think 1987 was something of the peak in the great decade of music.
@1967mustanggta I wholeheartedly agree. 1987 was a great year for music in general, and the watershed year for musical diversity! Go through this list! Outstanding...all of them.
Heaven did feel like it was on earth for a while, up come the noughties and reality kicked in. I suppose I will never find what I'm looking for. Here I go again, living on a prayer and lost in emotion. I know... I'm bad.
Hey guys, I've got a bunch of songs -- just my six-string and I. Right now they are probably best termed Folk/Yankee Country, but like I said, at this point it's just me singing and finger-picking... so they could really be produced to fit any genre... except maybe rap. So I'll do a few in pop, a few in rock, maybe hire Metallica to back me up on one (ROFL), bring some reggae magic to one... etc. hehe. That is to say, I can help pbring the '80s penchant for multiple genres back to life! hehe
Seb73astiaan- All teeneagers now a days dress just like they used to in the 80s the only difference is that now they listen to techno and maybe 80s music was crap to your parents/grandparents so quit hating.
but....wheres Gucci&Jeezy and Niki Minaj...and WHY are there WHITE people singing songs-Isnt that racist or anti-semetic or somthing?and what are those things they're using?are they instruments?...where are the songs bout gettin the money and drugs?

@hawwkfan i was 15 in 87! probably one of the best years for music, i can't say it was for me personally! being as skinny as a toothpick, made fun of all the time, having to take so much medication, having to deal with having ADD, flunking a class in my freshman year. on the upside i think 87 was when New Kids On the Block first appeared, unknowns at the time, on Nickelodeon's Don't Just Sit There!

Not only the music was better, everything was.
skruad 1 year ago 22
@skruad I agree. EVERYTHING WAS BETTER. I was only a small kid in the 80's, but it was like a beautiful dream I never want to wake up from. I was happy, I loved all the cartoons like He Man and Muppet Babies and Inspector Gadget. I also loved Small Wonder and Mr. Belvedere and Nintendo and o - take me back to the 80's! Why did they ever end ????
AmericanEvita 1 year ago 3
@skruad I wish. I was 6 and very jealous of all teenagers at that time. By the time I hit teens, did I get bright colors and pop music? no. I was served a heaping helping of grunge....which has its merits, but man, the 80s were the best.

@skruad well said.

muc390 1 year ago
Poor young people don't know that music actually was music once - Note the variety? Alll on one chart? And who can forget the hits that didn't make No. 1 like Don't Dream its Over, Smokin' Gun, Keep Your Hands To Yourself etc. etc.
I think 1987 was something of the peak in the great decade of music.
1967mustanggta 1 year ago
@1967mustanggta I wholeheartedly agree. 1987 was a great year for music in general, and the watershed year for musical diversity! Go through this list! Outstanding...all of them.

And yes back then "I had the time of my life"!!!

So I'll do a few in pop, a few in rock, maybe hire Metallica to back me up on one (ROFL), bring some reggae magic to one... etc. hehe. That is to say, I can help pbring the '80s penchant for multiple genres back to life! hehe
prezbucky 1 year ago
Seb73astiaan- All teeneagers now a days dress just like they used to in the 80s the only difference is that now they listen to techno and maybe 80s music was crap to your parents/grandparents so quit hating.
