I've used a variety of box color with only one semi-bad result (which was my own mistake). The one time I went to a salon, the color faded within 2 weeks and it was waaaay too expensive for me to do all the time anyway.
People that care about their hair and they way it looks are the people that will spend $40+ to have their hair done PROFESSIONALLY. Do you really think any of the celebrities that endorse BOX COLOR actually use BOX COLOR? Of course they don't. Google any celebrity and you'll see that aren't going to WAL-MART to get BOX COLOR. AND color will not lift color, you must use bleach.
Are you serious? You are clearly NOT a professional...
1. Professionals don't call hair COLOR, dye.
2. Professionals would NEVER tell a client it's O.K. to use box color or bleach. It is NOT o.k.. There is hardly ever enough to cover an entire head, the volume of developer is unknown, we don't know exactly what is being put in the BOXES, a client usually doesn't know there first thing about porosity, density, tenacity, base color, end result, naturally level, toning etc which can REALLY effect.

Generally, the answer is no. But I've heard of stylists selling additives or boosters to clients but almost never color because if they mess up, the salon is responsible. Wella at Sally's is actually professional color, try that.
I went from a really dark brunette to bleach blonde. Underneath & the tips are a little orangey, but it still looks good. My hairdresser friend did it for free, but for a root touch up+hair toning costs 40$ every month
Well I wouldn't say box colour is a waste of time if you plan on sticking within two shades. Like I'm naturally ginger/red and I dyed my hair a darker shade of red similar to the woman's in the video. But I know what you mean, one shouldn't have high expectations with box colour.
I mean come on she must be a hair stylist and having your hair done in a salon is A LOT more than box dye. Plus i have almost blonde hair naturally and i dyed it midnight black with boxed dye it does way more than she makes out
i know i was beach colour blonde and i went rom that to chestnut brown it may not be a step as big as ur's but it deffently works my hair is perfict rite now
Thats only cause its a lot easier for blondes to dye their hair darker. Kind of like its easier to paint a white wall rather than a darker one. The color is more vibrant and noticable.
With brown hair you have to really work at it. And thats what she's talking about brunettes going to blondes...
Quite personally I had fun with the box dyes because I picked random colors once a month like black then red, then brown then midnight black and then I just used the brightest blond possible and now I have blond hair with awesome tips and streaks. plus I don't like salons... they make me sick to my stomach.
This is soo complicated! I feel like this is explaining calculus or something! haha
I've never dyed my hair..its a dark brown..i want to go to a honey-auburn brown..(idk how to describe it) similar to the manikin in the video... would i get that color with a box dye?
1)if my hair is like an auburn reddish orange type color hair...and I want to have it evened out into one color and the color that i want is a light honey what can I do? Or if I decide to dye it a chocalate brown what can do? without having to go to a beauty salon.
ok i have to ask you a question lol duhh ok well my haire is like a dark ish mediume brown and i have blonde hylights but i whant my haire black and im going to dy it whit the box dy at the drug stor would it work ???
Thanks now I know I can not go too light but I can go with this darker color I was aiming for any particular box brand that you would recomend that's within a decent price that I could get at any store? Thanks again:):):)
GoingFromLightBlondeToBlack?i got a box colour wit da culars on da side, the culars were: Light Blonde-Dark Blonde, Midium Brown, Dark Brown. All of these colours are supopsed to go black?! is that right? tomorow im spose to be dying the underneath black. i used to be dark blonde, a few days ago, i dyed it all over light blonde, will it work if i dye the underneath a 'natural black' colour, or will it go green? tomro im going to the salon before i dye it, i wil ask then mayb get it dun there?
i went from dark brown to white using a bleaching loreal box color...and i got exactly what i wanted. i feel that going to beauty salon and spending 40.00 plus is a bit much...i want a good hair cut and that is what i spend my money...one...
your hair is probably damaged though....and you can say oh no its not but prob is..also you prob have alot of patches but its up to you if you want to damage your hair..if your jumping that many levels its rec. u go to a salon..my aunt owns two salons and she always dyes my hair becuase...hair stylist or prof. hair techs. no what they are doing
Hair salons put the same chemicals on your hair as when you use a bottle of dye at home. I went to a salon and they bleached my hair it had the same look and feel as a bottled off the shelf product for £5 plus £4 for my dye that I use to buy and do myself. Thank god my friend gave me a free bleaching at that place and I didn't pay there £60. I would of been horrified. People pay too much. I use henna shampoo and conditioner natural affective and makes me hair gain it's moisture and structure
After that experience I have never turned to a hair dresser for dying only to the same salon for a trim and they always ask if they dye my hair because it looks good and I always tell them I did it myself and they never believe me. Salons think they can brainwash you into spending a fortune on something you can do for £9 in 2 hours at home.
my mom is a pro, and her company has boxed hair dye. -_-

I had reddish-gold hair, and i used box color to turn it black

sounds like you just deposited color and didn't have a strong enough peroxide to give it any lift - I did a similar thing using a 15 level peroxide.

box dye is deff the worst thing ever
if you want to dye your hair at home go to sally's and get the developer and dye
box dye is just ugg waste of time
the only way box dye works is if you are going darker

Honestly, expect 2 levels of lightening with drugstore color and 3 levels with professional color without bleach.
