OMG i just thought of something put a small little leaflet of parcley or lettice in there would be a nice touch in one of those steps im sure you could decide why or when to put it in but thats my 2 cents in :D
My husband and I make this together, lol. Twice we have enjoyed the cooking and the eating of this great dish. We love it! We prefer to make and eat ours at home. Thanks again!
Yes, I made this the other night, and my husband and I both loved it. It's been a while since we've had this dish. It was a lighter version than I am used to (usually made with a creamy sauce), but just as tasty!
I have to get it out if my head about the old-fashioned conventional stove and oven as one unit. The one we have now is over 30 years old. I can't wait to get this project off the ground. You've been such a tremendous help. Thanks Betty and have a wonderful weekend.
Really good and simple recipe. I am definitely giving this a try Betty. Thank you for posting. I have question. We'll be remodeling our kitchen soon and I noticed that your stovetop didn't have an oven underneath it. Do you have an oven? I know it sounds silly, but I'm trying to get some ideas about what I want for the kitchen.
@reneecalling This may sound strange, but my microwave and electric oven are on the opposite side of the room. There is an island in the middle, which is convenient to both sides and it has never seemed awkward to me.
Re: thickening agents..........I've read that when substituting cornstarch with flour, you should be doubling the amount of flour. So, the 1/4 cup of cornstarch in this recipe = 1/2 cup of flour. Did anyone do this when substituting?
btw This recipe looks sooo good Betty, thanks for sharing!
Hi Betty. I love your videos. And you're so sweet. I wish I was from your generation so I can be your very proud, very happy, very well fed husband. Keep em coming. : )
I use potatoes in mine, you can buy those diced or sliced cuts (frozen) and I use flour instead of cornstarch and about a 1/4 onion sliced. I also make them into individual pies, by taking and folding one of the pie crusts into half, filling, and closing up with the traditional pie closing with slices for venting. They are amazing. I will try the cornstarch method though Betty, and the larger carrots! This looks great! I look forward to more of your videos!
adding potatoes like you said sounds like something I might try with this. Do you need to cook them at all prior? As you said all the other stuff is already done when you put it in so how would it work with potatoes? Is the 20 or so minutes enough to cook them if they were raw or should you cook them a little first? Would you boil them if pre-cooking is necessary?
@GenericName007 Yes, if I were adding potatoes to this pot pie, I would boil them until they are mostly done first. You can boil them in chicken broth to add some flavor.
I used to love pot pies as a kid and young teen. But I don't like them much anymore. Oh I mean thestore pre made ones. Ever since they screwed up with the make of it. From the foil to the crappy microwave cooking plate. As hot pockets have. They never cook right. And it has lost that taste the irondfoil gave, and the light golden edge crust & taste. Witch I used to save last to eat. As best part.
this looks fabulous, i love chicken pot pie, i think of my grandma when i make it i have a question, when i make a chicken pot pie i roast a chicken to get the meat and the stock, i add onion, carrots and peas to it it tasts delicious when i prepare the filling a very rich chicken flavor but when i bake it it dosn't taste the same do you know why this is? im going to try this version how did it taste? thank you for the videos betty, god bless
Thanks! I'm glad you are going to try the chicken pot pie! I have a chicken casserole recipe with cheese sauce. You could swith the vegetable to broccoli and that would be very close to the pot pie you described. Just search for chicken casserole in bettyskitchen.
MmmmYmmm....looks oh so GOOD!!! Reminds me of growin' up in se utah and Mom servin' me som Banquet or Swanson chicken pot pies,...only your pot pie looks more scrumptious!!! (mouth watering at full speed) Sendin' ya 5 stars Betty!!
Nice, I love it! Could you only use the top crust and leave out the bottom one? I like the top crust the best and after hearing you say something about leaving the top crust off the light bulb went on and I thought... or the bottom... But could you do that or would it some how cause the filling to burn?
I was just getting ready to try chicken pot pie, so great timing with this new video!
You could leave out the top crust or the bottom crust or both crusts. Actually, I think the crust is the best part, but, for those people watching calories, it is the worst part for them! Thanks for your sweet comment!
I cut the bottom crust out half way down the tin and used it as the top, worked pretty good for frozen pie crust and we loved the Turkey Pot Pie! My first homemade pot pie! Thanks for showing me how to make that dish! I did it in a crock pot while cooking some game hens.
luv your vids. you seem so rushed this vidio unlike the others was rick that hugary to crack the whip on you ???lol if so pm me ill come down there and give him a few nookie buttonns!!!!lol over and out from the northcoast of america...

Pot pie is such a wonderful recipe. Great for just a week night, or even a casual party. Thank you so much Betty and Rick, you guys have made it possible for me to have a different dishes and a more healthy dishes as well. You never cease to amazed me Betty.
comfort food! that pie crust looked nice and flaky. We get these Tenderflake ones that are anything but tender or flaky...lol. i would love to get my hands on those one you have though. you could whip up a pie in no time!
We get frozen or refrigerated pie crusts that are so good that I quite often do not want to spend the time on a fresh pie crust--but I always do for company! Thanks for your lovely comment!
@margaritaiscuban i second this! we drink gallons of this in canada-with lemon too. whenever i go to the states and order ice tea, they look at me queerly then bring me a pot of tea with a cup of ice....lol. i was quite sure that ice tea was an american thing that originated at some county fair or something? would love to get your recipe Betty!
I have a video on making tea that you can search for on bettyskitchen. The only difference that I see between "tea" and "sweet tea" is that you add sugar or other sweetener to tea to get sweet tea!
I hope you enjoy the chicken pot pie this weekend! It is pretty much a full meal. I might add a green salad with some interesting ingredients. Other than that, maybe something that is sweet and tart--like Cherry Crunch. Have a great dinner!
First of all, leave off the crust, and have a "crustless" chicken pot pie. As far as the chicken is concerned, place it in a slow cooker, and just chop it when it's done. That will give it a really good flavor, but if you want to make it quicker, just boil the chicken (or use canned chicken breast). This pot pie can be made into a very healthy, low calorie main dish--and you can add more (or different) vegetables, if you like!
Looks great! I've made chicken pot pie before, but I'm glad you posted this video...cause it gave me an idea of what to make for dinner. I can cook a lot of different things, but I just get in "dinner ruts" sometimes when I make the same things over and over because I just forget about stuff! So great video and thanks!
