I just started reading Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" and its really cool to just stumble onto a video of a place that's actually in the book. That snow is huge. Down here in Texas we almost never get snow, and when we do we scrape it off the ground with out hands and chunk it at each other with mud all inside it.
We had snowflakes that big before if not bigger here in Richmond VA. In early january of this year, some training snow bands were moving through. We were only supposed to get a coating. Temps were just above frz, 33 or 34. It came down so hard and so quick you could see it accumulating, as the literally, chunks of snow came down. They were the biggest flakes I've ever seen, if not snow chunks. Unbelievable.
When the snowflakes percipitate, some will merge to create even bigger snowflakes. The only way this could be possible is if the snowflakes merged together in its cloud form.
He I was stationed at Keflavik back in the 60's. I think that I went to Reykavik once while I was there. Live volcanoes on the island are still erupting.
it would not be called ICELAND for nothing.. lol!

Those are not snowflakes, they are many snowflakes in one "ball".

@pokepiano123 Thats why some fall in chunks and "splatter" as they hit the ground. Aren't flakes usually that big when it's just above freezing?
