Hadn't Nadal been there, from 2003 to 2009: Federer would have had 5 consecutives French Open, 7 consecutives Wimbledon and 5 consecutives Us Open, what a scary record if you think about it
a shame Fed didn't keep it closer--he was really ripping his backhand well in this match. I think the key was not capitalizing on his 5-2 first-set lead, eventually losing it.
@aceitjt Roger doesn't have the mental edge he used to have. He loses concentration and when he realises it the matches are usually too far gone. Having said that, his attack and mixes with drop shots here were amazing. The problem is that Nadal can get everything back and then counter.
and what is more, Nadal is slowering the game, putting balls higher, and higher to slow the game, it's in his style, that's why he is the best actually in RG. Federer is more complete but too offensive player.
what a pitty. i love roger and i'm a big fan of rafa aswell. roger had all the chances to win the match but he just did not stick to his gameplan which got rafa back into the match. if rafa is back on his game, you cannot beat him...at least not on clay. but i liked the federer-djokovic semi better.
Rafa, the true king of clay! Hope he'll get his confidence back and that he can play on hard courts like he did @ AO 2009 and most of the time in 2010.
Federer was hitting the ball so sweet this match. It was his to win. Shame that drop shot he hit on set point in the first went wide. Who know's what could have happened if he got the first.
@damienkwillis He would have lost because it is how it is. If Nadal weren't Nadal then Federer would lead in the head to head. Nadal is the king of clay, he's clearly the best on clay. He would be able to win even if he was two sets down against Federer.
3:13 If that's the kind of point Roger has to consistently win to beat Rafa on clay, then Federer owes Soderling a HUGE thank you for beating Nadal in 2009 so he didn't have to.
@tennislife100 hey why is that? is it painful seeing nadal screw federer again and again? well how many times has federer done that to others?? actually its wonderful seeing him get a taste of his own medicine.. really :)
If Murray becomes No2, it's not gonna help you. At the French Open No 1 plays against No 4 in semis (No 3 against 2). It's different from the US Open where semis are like this: 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4.
So if the ranking stays the same until May 2012. Nadal will play Federer in semifinal.
@maripyter US open 2008 .. Federer was no.2 , Djokovic was no. 3 .. It was a Federer - Djokovic semi final ..
There is a 50% chance of 1 playing either 3 or 4 in all slams .... ! Even US open 09 , Nadal was seeded no. 3 .. Murray no. 2 , and it was a 1 Vs 4 ( Fed vs Djokovic) Semi final...
@ArjunJethwa I think you can forget about Roger's next slam coz he is physically not good enough to win a grand slam IMO. And even if Federer comes to the final of RG 2012 he won't be able to beat Djokovic, Murray or Nadal.
Fed was finally doing the right thing against Rafa's cross court shot to Roger's backhand, he was taking it on the rise, and it was working really well, but Nadal got on a roll after Federer lost the set point... Rafa was unstoppable then.

lol The Spanish commentators are pretty funny and I don't mean in a disrespectful way. It's nice to hear someone genuinely excited about their favorite player.
@Rafathaman94 but nadal is awful, today he lost like a chicken rather than a man to novak. he was owend. actually i feel as long as nadal makes these slams finals, he just going to five them to djokovic. i use to like nadal, but not thatr he has becoming a whipping boy, i have lost all respect. he doesn't have the will to fight anymore against novak. its not Nadal....its NADULLLLLLL
@Rafathaman94 So calling me "you, an old fart in your 50's" is not a personal attack? Well, my comments about you masturbating in fron of the Armani video were not either, it was "a reflection on the bad habits some people acquire when they idolize others..." right, we are both serious... and BTW, I am not "judging" a player, quite the opposite, I am praising the guy who is considered by most as the best in history... then you step in and start calling me names and here we are....
@Rafathaman94 what was the topic? "old farts in their 50's"??? we are talking about H2H vs total accomplishments and you get in with your grotesque comments and personal attacks.... give your hand a rest and your brain will improve... slowly but it will.
standard federer nadal match federer dictates and outplays him for large spells but doesnt take his chances then rafa grinds and counterpunches his way through, forcing federer to make errors. also has to be noted how much rafa starts deliberately slowing it down when federers on a role with his persistent towelling (even after being aced) and calling the trainer! rafas a great guy but theres no need for that! play the game fairly!
@nickasbne Nadal has never played fair. He did the same crap to Del Potro and Muller... and if he fails to throw the other guy off, then he will claim he lost because he was "injured". Too bad a guy who is probably the best clay court and best defensive player ever has to resort to such pathetic tricks when matches get difficult.
i know what you mean they should definitely be more harsh on it because he deliberatley upsets federers rhythm! people wonder why nadal often has the edge and the fact that he just disrupts federers flow intentionally with his towelling etc is definitely a significant factor. the most annoying thing is when no one not even the commentators pick it up! i like rafa and hes a nice guy but someones gotta have a word! imagine what mcenroe or connors would do playing against him haha
@nickasbne I realize this is an old comment, but it is fair, unless called out by ref. One of Nadal's strongest strengths is his mental fortitude, if he can throw off someone by destroying their rythm because they dont share the same mental strength as him or they dont try using that same 'unfair' tactic then that is their problem. @makaveliguy Oh yes people have outhit Nadal many times: Gonzalez and Tsonga at the AO, Murray at the USO and AO, Davydenko every time on hard surfaces, Federer several times, the last one at the Master's and even twoce on clay... and clearly Soderling in RG 2009. The problem is doing it consistently without running into a zillion unforced errors.
@makaveliguy Nadal's major strength is returning everything until he forces the other guy to miss or to hit a shorter ball and then he attacks. If you look at the statistiucs of this match, ROger had twice as many winners and also twice as many errors.
@picus11 Davydenko's C game is too good for Nadal..... Ooppssss but Roger's D game is too much for Davidenko's A++ game... so let's look at the other numbers... weeks as #1, GS titles, MS Championships.... wow, there is only one GOAT, he is swiss and his name is Roger....
@picus11 I am talking about tennis and you your feelings involved in this? Federer is definitely the most accomplished, elegant and complete player in history. Too bad your passion does not let you enjoy his playing. Down the road you will probably tell your grandchildren you saw him play and say "it was incredible".
@picus11 then my friend you know very little about tennis and are just very passionate about just one player. Your comments about a "swiss boyfriend" also show that. WIth time you will probably become wiser and learn to enjoy a tennis genius rather than focus on fanaticism for the one you like.
well, even a Fed on fire can't win... he's the best attacker the game has ever seen, too bad he's only the 3rd, 4th or 5th best defender ever...dude can't fall back on an A+ game. He'll only win from Rafa or Djoker is his attacking is super while their defending game isn't optimal.
i think fed's grunt is even gayer than nadal's lol

this video shows 3 things :
first : Federer is dominated this match, creating, moving, changing varatiations etc
second : Nadal is acculated and is in difficulties and he can defend because the surface is very slow.
Three : Nadal wins because he can play waiting for overture, waiting a fault.
Federer played this match much more better, but it's tennis, he has lost this match against himself in a way

@TennisAnnalyst you are crazy if you think that nadal only win federer because nadal suffer the forehand to roger´s backhand

Even Rafa´s B game is too good for Federer´s A+. He is the best of this generation.

@Bostero3771 maybe u would love to be it this way, but your swiss boyfriend is not what u think and he thinks he is.

@picus11 I am talking about tennis and you your feelings involved in this? Federer is definitely the most accomplished, elegant and complete player in history. Too bad your passion does not let you enjoy his playing. Down the road you will probably tell your grandchildren you saw him play and say "it was incredible".
Bostero3771 8 months ago
@Bostero3771 no way I will tell that, guarantee u.

@picus11 then my friend you know very little about tennis and are just very passionate about just one player. Your comments about a "swiss boyfriend" also show that. WIth time you will probably become wiser and learn to enjoy a tennis genius rather than focus on fanaticism for the one you like.

@Bostero3771 oh, youre right. Finally know the truth about myself. Thank God for u:-)) without u I dont know...haha

well, even a Fed on fire can't win... he's the best attacker the game has ever seen, too bad he's only the 3rd, 4th or 5th best defender ever...dude can't fall back on an A+ game. He'll only win from Rafa or Djoker is his attacking is super while their defending game isn't optimal.

I love how good Nadal's backhand has gotten over the past few years.

damn federer choked on the first set, i think if he'd won it he would of done much better

@frilloz4
You are absolutely right. Maybe he would even win. All sets (excluding the fourth) were really really tied.
