  • I like the op[ening 2 minutes or so but then it becomes a bit too referential to the Listz Piano concertos - just with some more novel orchestration. Some of the comments are overly harsh. I think this deserves to be heard - maybe not a ton but I am unsure about it being kept on the shelf.

I find it informative as how difficult it was for composers to write a piano concerto under the shadow of Listz and Brahms.

  • it has an asian feel to it :P

  • What an amazing piece, can't believe that I have never heard this masterpiece before!

  • Easily the best piano concert I've heard. Rimsky-Korsakov had very progressive orchestration for his time.

  • Perhaps we could compare this to the recording of Ponti; Ponti has an abundance of energy yet this version seems to lack vitality...

  • this and Rachmaninoff 2 are the best post- classical piano concertos ever written

  • @KevinBeethoven The second and the third of Prokofiev are wonderful too!

  • amazing!

  • Why this meets with neglect should be no freaking mystery after listening to this, yet Richter was a sucker for it, and with me being an asshole for the Slavic/Russian thing, I got something out of it too, but I can't figure the Pollacky element in it.

  • Just GORGEOUS. Thank you.

  • According to Heinrich Neuhaus, the teacher Sviatoslav Richter, he learned this in one day.

  • @NecroSexy Amazing. I can't even learn preludes in one day X D

  • awesome! thanks for posting!!!!
