@Theteller3 By that logic, everything is a poison. If nothing is not a poison, why even make the distinction? For example, drinking too much water will kill you. Getting too much oxygen will kill you. Getting too much of any vitamin will kill you. Getting too much protein will kill you
My local Thai restaurant keeps some msg in stock for me, I don't see what is wrong with it. Been eating Thai food with it in for at least 15 years, and I'm perfectly healthy.
omg ppl chill it wasn't MSG that the lady put in, it was sugar. i mean use ur logic....y would u put freakin' MSG in fried noodles with a already super flavorful sauce? the sugar goes in to ad to the flavor. =_=
@khax2002 It's only from the previous batch cooked seconds before. Washing it at that point would be like scrubbing a grill every time you put a new burger patty on it.
How can you really learn, when no one is telling us a play by play on what the ingredients are and if anything the object she's cooking on looks pretty filthy to me!
restaurants here in the u.s. are filthy. so before we worry about msg. wonder how they're making your food here in u.s. restaurants. no msg made from kitchen nightmare kitchen. you won't die from msg but you would get sick and possibly die from food poisoning.
I loved to eat and Thai & Laos are one of my fav! Btw I'm from Laos and I grow up eating almost everything with MSG.. I am fine and not obese at all. Most Asian cooked most of their food with msg. If you also look in America some receipt has msg in it just read the ingredient label. Yes any food overseas taste way better then you trying to cook it in America. The sauce and flavor more authentic.
my parents own a thai restraunt :D come any time or call..919-416-9009 and come pick the order up at 2425 Guess Rd. Durham NC 27705 Lunch Monday-Saturday 11:00 AM- 02:30 PM Dinner Monday - Thursday 05:00 PM - 9:00 PM Friday&Saturday 05:00 PM - 9:30 PM plz come!!
I noticed that she washed her hands in the orange bucket at the beginning after she put the shrimps in the cooking pan. I originally that that was her hand washing bucket but then she pulled out some bean sprouts from the same orange containter at the end. I love street food, too, but I wish they pay more attention to cleanliness. Just be careful when making your street food vendor selection.
@mainengv that is very true. pick your street food vendor wisely. I didn't and that's why i had food poisoning while i was at phuket. They supposedly left some bbq-ed kebabs in the open, and when any customers want, they will just heat it up over the grill. You never know how long the meat has been out in the open..with flies arnd it..
LoL. There's nothing wrong if you consume that amount once in a while. You'll probably be better off eating this delicious Pad Thai than a McDonald's hamburger any day.
@MonkeyArtful I'm an American living in Thailand and the street food is perfectly fine and safe. I'd say more so than the regular 'fine-dining' tourist traps.
Yeah she did wash her hands in the same bucket as bean sprouts.. but she did cook the bean sprouts before serving.. sanitary ? no... but good yummy food ? yep!
does anyone reliable know what the ingredients are added after the shrimp? I can identify the been sprouts and noodles and possibly red cabbage but i cant tell what the others are.
ewww i think she washed her hand after she touch the raw shrimp in the bucket that have bean spout in it... grooss... at first i thought just a bucket of water to wash hand....ewwwwww
How did MSG come into this? MSG is a flavour enhancer. Good THAI food doesn't need flavour enhancer, in many cases, it already has enough going on without spoiling it with MSG. Thai is one of the most aromatic style's of cuisine out there and with beautiful produce like galangal, chilli, kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass etc. You never really need to add MSG to anything, have any of you ever tasted it? It tastes like powdered chicken salt. Not necessary. And that was sugar she was adding.
Talk about MSG, it is true that many Asian country use MSG in most of their food, I grew up eating my mother (Thai) cooking ever since I can remember, and I can tell you she cook just like her mother and her mother's mother cook and they all have some type of MSG. We never got sick or have any types of side effect. Many Westerner worry about MSG, but little did they know, many of their foods contain some MSG, i,e Doritos Chip, Hot Dog, Beef Jerky, etc. So, don't worry so much...
and a thought on the MSG topic for those people who are so scared of it....everything in moderation is OKAY guys, youre not gonna die. my whole generation eat msg and trust me...why are you so terrified. butter and lard causes clogged arteries, why arent those banned??? there's so many thing that are worse for you than MSG!!! really...just enjoy the food, like my friend down there said ;D
the noodles are soaked...in cold water for 2hrs. its better that way but if you dont have the time, you can soak in hot water just until they soften a little...but the thing is with soaking them in hot water, the noodles tend to break when you stir fry them. hope this helps.
The whole country of Japan, China, Thailand and other Asian country use MSG for 100 years and they're doing fine in fact they're healthier then the Americans (over weight). Sure the mice got the wrong end of the deal when they were tested on but look at how big the mice are and how big we are and the amount of MSG they injected the mice with. So when you go out just enjoy the food :)
@udomsimon1 Ingesting MSG can induce paralysis. And I hate the burning feeling in my chest. I respect Asian customs, but that is poison. It is totally possible to make good Asian food without MSG.
@udomsimon1 You're kind of stupid. You neglect things like lifestyles and other environmental factors that lead to a long life. Just because they use msg and and they live long doesn't make msg healthy.
LoL no way my mom uses msg sometimes in her cooking but never more than sugar or salt. the first powder was likely sugar second salt. and that wasn't me who gave you a thumbs down, don't know who that was.but I kinda agree with your comment about msg making food taste better.. but not sure if it's true about restaurants. Hey you know what someone told me recently that all that thing about MSG was a myth or something that was really proven.. she said she saw it on some show off the food network.
@minakom1224 hehe it's true. MSG is not good for your bones and one side effects is headaches, also contain addictive elements. It's banned from supermarkets in Australia as it dont meet health standards. But asian groceries still sell it. i don't really care what i eat as long as it's moderate
@chaaanna MSG by Ajinomoto is good. My grandparents, parent, mother-in-law and friends' grandparent ate it and we too. I saw a TV program saying MSG will reduce Parkinson disease. Yes, I can prove it is true as none of them has Parkinson disease before they die at the age of 88-99 !
Thai cooks will ALWAYS put MSG in almost every dish unless you specifically ask them not to, and they will almost always put sugar, especially with pad thai. On top of that, Thai diners will add more sugar from the condiment jar at the table!
Can anyoane, please, tell me what MSG means ?

@chanaxify Besides, MSG actually makes it possible to use less fat and salt, because it amplifies the flavor of what's already there.

I think the first powder was MSG and the second one was sugar, It seems alot but she is making a large portion.
everything that taste nice has MSG, 621 is the ingredient code for MSG in packaged food.
Restaurants dont tell you that they use MSG but its the main ingredient in there secret sauces n recipes.
MSG is a flavour enhancer and that is why Asian food taste so nice and flavourful.
