You're right, it's not his fault and he is a better drummer. People mostly just want the originals, but unfortunately that just wasn't meant to be within KISS. It would've been cool to see what new characters they could've came up with for Tommy and Eric though.

it's not Eric's fault that he isnt an original member- its not like HE kicked anyone out of the band. He's not stuck up, not bragging about being in KISS, and is in fact being less stuck up than many stars- hes there chatting with ordinary fans and he has less ego than Gene or Paul because he knows what its like to be ordinary and to be a fan.

The characters the original members created were extensions of their personality.

Putting 2 guys in the costumes is not the same as simply replacing the guitar player or the Drummer. Gene and Paul have exploited the integrity the original band created and fuels their popularity to this day. So if Ace and Peter are not in the Make up then it is not the true KISS.

I never understood the problem about having other musicians instead of the originals. Is it because the gimmick makes KISS different? I thought it was about the music and the whole picture where KISS stands for.

They are now a tight decent rockband, instead of sloppy, weak old guys. Although Gene and Paul reached their 60's they've still got skills. Paul & Gene forever!!!!

@Tonyr67 I'll try to put it in simple terms so you can see the point: what KISS is today, no matter how "tight" they sound, is half the original band and half KISS tribute band. KISS has gone zombie. The original KISS is long gone, and the real fans miss it. I tell you, I saw the original lineup back in 1999 and I'd much rather see Peter and Ace than those two silly clones Gene and Paul got so they can make some more money.

@kennypeeandpoo I know Gene and Paul are driving the bus and Eric and Tommy are doing as they are asked to, but I don't think Eric is trying to emulate Peter at all, he brings a much more rock-n-roll feel to the band.

Tommy is a little more handcuffed, imo. I'm certain he was instructed to sound the same as Ace and he doesn't have the leeway to improve or improvise.

Eric and Tommy are employees and their relationship to the band is different, although that might have changed now with the release of a new album.

@Tonyr67 No way!!! KISS used to be a real band when Ace and Peter were around. Gene and Paul were always leaders, but now they're bosses. They own the KISS logo and all the merchandise rights, but the real KISS ended when Peter left the band, with all due respect to the other great musicians that were recruited afterwards.
