  • I fucking love the Cello solo. Makes me wanna cum

  • @theCrpldOrphnPrjct disgusting vile creature

  • @xerxes52 Flattery will get you everywhere ;) And what is wrong with sexual attraction to music? You're shallow if you can't fathom the thought.

  • @theCrpldOrphnPrjct Yeah bro I bet Rosti's a killer in the sack as well. just look at that bow hold. awsome

  • @PapaBone69 Lol jaa. His wife was a HOTTIE so he definately had some moves.

  • @theCrpldOrphnPrjct Coming soon. A film about Rosti and his wife "practicing" and how he broke her G string when he was showing her some hectos vibrato techniques. Also staring Daddy Wood, Papa Longschlong and Steamy Thomas.

  • @PapaBone69 I'd order it on blu ray :D

  • lol everyone stop spam pop rock metal. I like every music... if it's good :) i play cello and Rostropovich was the god of this!!! Great music Great VId pls stop hating and enjoy :)

  • Everyone shut up about pop and enjoy this masterpiece! :)

  • We can't all be stoggy purists about music. It's hard to write a great pop song among hundreds of crappy ones. But what we need is to keep great music like THIS for appreciation, performance, and study and more composers among classical musicians. People used to write songs in the romantic era to rebel against the overpriced production of orchestral works, so why don't we rebel with symphonies?! XD

  • Rostropovich is (was) in a league of his own, so no comparisons relevant

  • Watching Rostropovich in person was amazing. I saw him several years ago with the Seattle Symphony, and in his mid-80's he bounded onto the stage with his cello, as much energy, it seemed as a man much, much younger, and he played that way too.

  • yeah i totally agree

  • not only rostropovichs interpretation was beyond awesome, the orchestra was really great as well for a change

  • Dvorak is seriously badass

  • it seriously saddens me how great music like this are dying in this world

  • I'd like to see what kind of person dislike this piece.

  • @WalterTheBlackMan a really stupid one

  • make that 62 stupid people...

  • classical music is by far the best type of music in the world

  • Would people stop arguing about whether classical or pop or rock or anything is better than the other and just enjoy the music? Everyone will agree that any form of music takes a period of time to be good at. Eminem wasn't standing on some street corner, making remarks, when they signed him up.

  • I think one should be able to appreciate more genre and traditions of music, they're all beautiful in their own ways....I don't like "Music Racists".

  • I love this video for two reasons, first Rostropovich is one of the greatest musicians of all time and second the Dvorak concerto is brings about a full use of the cello's unique voice. But I also hate watching this video because I see the comments riddled with petty argument opposed to praise and admiration of a historic performer and a historic piece.

  • damn shut the fuck up. this music is not for you

  • i disagree

years to become a good classical musician 7-20

years to become a great one - 50+

  • @Mizzles240 unless you're just born great, like the person that is playing this music!!! Who, by the way, nobody seems to be worried about...

  • Even as a brass musician I've learned so much from this man. Love his style.

  • 62 thumbs down? What world do these people live in?? Under bridges?

  • @ytertyu What the hell is wrong with you? I can garuntee that you would not say that to somebody's face. You don't know anything about them or there mom. Other than that your reply was completly tastless.

  • @ijjbaa fuck off low-life shithead , or I'll keep raping ur slutty momma

  • @ytertryu You're sick. Looking at your channel you seem to be just some porn addicted teenager with nothing better to do then masturbate and berate people on classical music videos. You know that it's true. So while your response might be some offense towards me just know that you are nothing but filth.

  • 5:00 reminds me of the video of Lang Lang with his papa playing the horse tune.

  • He was amazing <3! I'm crying and speechless

  • 63 people are uncultured swine

  • fucking general public: so difficult...

  • i've been playing the cello for 4 years, but I've never made the time to listen to this. I feel so sorry for myself for not finding this sooner. Rostropovich rocks. he's better than yo yo ma by like 1000x!!! but both are awesome

  • Any musician, regardless of the genre or 'idiom' commences with the rudiments of an instrument, then progresses throughout their playing lives. Even if the technical development reaches a limit, the musicality and ability to express feeling does not.

To place these prescriptive time scales on different forms is merely a desire to create an elitist self-delusion. The true musician respects all forms of music as long as it is sincerely produced.

  • @GalaxyHorse You know, you've really said something important.

  • It's funny cause the orchestra in my school sucks dick

  • Rostropovich's performance is the Platinum standard for this concerto, hands down.

  • No one compares to the great Rostropovich....one of my musical heroes for a lifetime! Saw him live many years ago....will never forget....

  • 61 ppl....OMG...Those people have NO musical perspective...pffffff

  • What a sound!

  • Good luck!

  • @26rude Thanks!

  • ...wow. I'm speechless. This piece is awesome!! I have to play 1:03-1:35 for my orchestra auditions.

  • This proves nothing Christian!!!

  • @Shebrokemyboat IT PROVES EVERYTHING

  • Beautiful.. Thank you very much..

  • in about 100 - 200 years times. hip-Hop will be classed as classical music. It's not only a style but a significant step in music technology. Do not underestimate any genre and the pioneers of that genre.

  • @thevictory12345 Perhaps it will be known as "classical music" but at controversy of the word "classical." Just like people choose to classify all music from the common practice period as classical music, in many decade's time people will choose to classify hip-hop as classical music. And yet, today, select people choose to classify genres from the common practice period seperately (ie, baroque/classical/romantic) and likewise people in the future will classify our genres seperately.

  • justin bieber is more talented as this celist, it took him 16 years!!!

  • I don't think anyone could compose better for the Cello than Dvorak. Although there are many pieces I like for the cello, Dvorak's pieces are always top of the line.

  • years to become a great classical musician - all life

  • It takes to BORN a musician. The years are secondary.

  • I prefer the performance on the part of the orchestra Ma played with

  • I love watching him just sitting there before the cello entrance. Rostropovich was an intense guy.

  • Why the fuck are you guys talking about rap/hip-hop, metal, gangsta rap, and all that shit? THIS IS FUCKING CLASSICAL, continue your conversation on some of THOSE categoried videos

Peace Went out for a walk, wont be back until dinner...

  • 60 people forgot who rostropovich was

  • Oh My God, Rostropovich, you is D+ !!!!!

  • been playing cello 10 years. Love classical. Also love rap. All rap, gangsta rap, southern rap, i'm even a fan of the hyphy movement. ;) All music is great, from country to metal to shostakovich and brahms. How about we just sit back, close our eyes, and enjoy this absolute masterpiece by one of the best cellists of all time

  • оче хорошо братя словени

  • fantastic

  • when i hear this song i feel so good

    Energetic!!!!!!!!!!

I wanna run and jump and .....i don't know

but then i feel calm and .......... stil do not know

any way it is a beatiful song

  • Classical actually sounds better than hip-hop on the whole. That's one of the very few opinions I have :)

But I agree that music of any style can be good and worth appreciation.

  • All music is awesome. :D

You just need to learn to appreciate it including hip-hop/rap and classical.

  • i love the horn solo at 2:30

  • i love the horn solo at 3:20

  • Is that motif taken from Brahms's requiem?

  • @imperiumdiaboli

I'm studying this in class and that is exactly what I said when listening to it. I couldn't find any article confirming it, but he did write the first movement as a tribute to his sister-in-law's death (whom he secretly loved), and Brahms helped Dvorak get his career going. And with the Brahms Requiem pre-dating this concerto, it's quite possible that he used a Brahms Requiem quote for his own "requiem movement" for his sister-in-law. Fascinating

  • @jonathanstinson Wow, thanks, what book is this in?

  • @imperiumdiaboli

I'm not sure what book. :( I just finished up a class on the history of the concerto at CCM in Cincinnati (I'm a doctoral student there). One of my professor's lectures was on Brahms helping Dvorak receive a grant from the Austrian government to write his Violin Concerto, which helped put him on the map and the two remained close. My Prof also said that one of the themes in the concerto was originally a love song he wrote for his sister-in-law. I'll try to find the source

  • Absolutely brilliant.... I love how he misses the first note. Even Rostropovich was human!

  • @maniscello1 how did he miss it? he keeps the B consistent

  • Couple years ago I "fallowed" Rostropovich from 61st B&N to Carnegie Hall ... it was around 9pm ... it was rainy ... I was like 20 steps away ... I wanted to talk with him but then I told myself "there's nothing that you can tell him that he never heard before :)" so I just fallowed ... It was AMAZING feeling ... I will always remember.

  • @KishoAudioVisual Why would you treat him like a piece of dirt?

  • why hasnt this video hit a million views yet!!

  • @musicman1724 It will......And then it will reach 2 million.....And most likely 1 billion. Because music this great will never, EVER die. Just look how long it has been since it was written. And you better believe that the internet will keep it alive for many more hundreds, even thousands of years to come.

  • @jwunschie14 It will take a REALLY long time to reach 1 billion. Society is corrupt and only favors more of the Hip-Hop style of music which is complete garbage and impure, but I agree with your viewpoint.

  • Your opinion is ignorant and uneducated. You have probably not given a lot of hip hop a real listen. Of course the vast majority of it is trashy, but so is most classical music. Your idea that it is impure is an elitist and uninformed one.

a)You haven't listened to enough of it to have an opinion based on fact, thus you really shouldn't have an opinion on it

    or

b)You HAVE listened to a lot of both classical and hip hop, and decided that YOU don't like it...the art in itself is not "impure".

  • @xplosivkid Dude, none of classical music is trashy....it doesn't even make any sense. I'm guessing you love Hip-Hop? If you do don't listen to Rostro play and go watch "talented" people sing. For the better of yourself

  • @xbasket12x In essence I can see how you think this way. I take it you are a classical music lover like myself, and you have to know the following: However hyped up and popular pop artists are now, the music of Bach and Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak, and others will ALWAYS outlive that of Jay Z, Eminem, even Bieber, despite how talented they might be (Bieber excluded...). Their music isn't close to the level of genius that went into that of such composers.

  • @jwunschie14 I guess you're right

  • I attended his performance in London in September 1968 just after the Russian invasion ....A most moving performance.

  • Hey, 3/4 of Mozart is extremely boring! But the highlights are truly great.

  • @watutman well i don't know what mozart you listen to, but i must disagree with you. Mozart didn't always write perfect music, but his range of highlights extend to greater proportions than any other composer. i'd say it would be opposite, 3/4 of Mozart is good to extremely good (if not the best) and 1/4 is so so.

  • With all due respect to the kind of skill it takes to successfully perform a piece like this, that is not the only way to measure the quality of music. If anything I think a more important question would be what kind of feelings it evokes when heard and/or seen, and that will be totally different for different listeners.

  • Truly the greatest vehicle created for the cello in all music history.

  • 56 people are the same troll logging on to 56 different accounts and hitting dislike.

  • Brahms: deutsches requiem motiv

  • I like your comment but I do NOT think it is ANY exaggeration to say some of Mozart's pieces are NOT worth listening to...I haven't found any! They're ALL very good to outstanding. As for Beethoven, one could easily say that they're ALL outstanding.

    So I respectfully differ.

  • @RunWalkRace

Your first sentence contradicts the ending statement. You say that it isn't an exaggeration to say that Mozarts pieces aren't worth listening to but then say they are all good. Nonetheless, I think Mozarts pieces especially must be performed well. I have heard recorded performances that seems like the pieces were lacking and then heard another performance of the same piece that was incredible. They must be performed exceptionally well with the right ensemble.

  • @intervalkid

Yes, you are right! It was a poorly written sentence.

  • Dvorak was one of the greatest geniuses of the Romantic era. Bravo!

  • such a great music dun reli no y there ar dislikes so lame

  • <3 Giulini

  • 7:19 wtf?

  • to comper classic music that stand the wear of time for centuries is like compering humens to eggs, ask your self if in 100 years there will be 5% of the world pupolation who will remember michel jakson or abba or akon, bach and mozart yes will be remember.does not mean that one cant enjoy temporery music lol

  • cassals is better

  • @xavier3185 i have to disagree, i just listend to his version of this concerto, its just way too fast, just rushed down, i like this version much better.

  • my favourit cellist cuz he doesnt make these weird "jizz in my pants"-faces while playing xD kiddin. hes just technically perfect, espacially the trills and double stops are insane. so is is right hand

  • I used Rostropovich in one of my college essays. Spoke about how he was my inspiration to play cello and that I wished to play with such precision as him. Boy, how I miss him!

  • so beutiiful !!!!!! ♥♥♥♥.....!!!!!! =)

  • Amazing!

  • I have binged on many versions of this thing over the past 24 hours. Heaven help me find a way out.

  • Wow what a terrible conductor. Rostropovich is awesome though.

  • @SeraphThanatos He's not THAT bad..... ...dot...dot...dot...

  • @AnotherViolist How dare you say that to Slava

    CURSES

  • @xbasket12x Learn to read what I replied to...."Wow what a terrible conductor."

  • wonderfull amazing thank's

  • There are usually two types of musicians. The ones who have mastered technique, and those who can really show emotion and beauty in their playing. Rostropovich has mastered both types of playing.

  • Everyone please just shut up with your stupid flame wars okay? It doesn't make you look or sound smart in ANY way. Just enjoy the piece for what it is and Rostropovich is the greatest cellist that has ever lived.

  • @xbasket12x

of course he was . because we know all cello player ......

    idiot ....

he is SUPER. everything here is super. but pls stop saying things like THE BEST EVER LIVED ....we all know nothing.

  • @princenosiatajansen It was only my opinion

  • @princenosiatajansen dude, don't be a hater, xbasket12x is just saying that Rostropovich is amazing (and he is) and if you think about it, if there was someone who was at the same level of playing as Rostropovich or better he or she'd be famous and you'd know about them, wouldn't you? so stop being a hater, peace on earth, and just listen to the beautiful music.

  • This is breathtaking <3

  • @aurore891 Like your mother.

  • 5:08 just the perfect moment.

  • Uno de los mejores conciertos de cello, bello y hermoso

  • Why don't we turn our attention to perform er/ ance and interpretations instead of what is right or wrong.; fat or thin.

I think listening and expressing are the objectives.

I think this Rostropovich performance is legendary in the Dvorak Cell Concerto.

  • Comment removed

  • When was this footage broadcast and where? was it on the BBC?

  • I spoke with a guy from France who had no idea who Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, or Mozart was, let alone Dvorak. It's not just Americans who don't know, it's modern society. That is all.

  • whew, does anyone how the bow stroke beginning at 7:19 is called and how to do or practice it? is it spiccato or something? or is it simply very fast slurred staccato? definitely bindblowing performance, altough i like du Pre's rendition better (esp. the second movement)

  • @wildtollwut1 I don't think there's a name for it, I just checked on the score it's bars 158-165 and it's really hard to play ; )

I remember Navarra (a french cellist) had some good advice for practice :

instead of playing (for example) BGCCGB play double stops : BG GC GC BG and so on.

When the notes are ok, continue with double stops in the middle of the bow with accents on down bows. then, you can go faster, with the right hand fingers making sure that the bows stays firmly on the strings.

  • @wildtollwut1 keep sure you don't apply too much pressure on the bow, just keep it firmly on the strings.

I hope this advice helps you as much as it helped me ; )

  • @kubbelisgod thanks for your kind reply :) I'll have a try but, well, I think this whole concerto is way too difficult for me. Out of sheer curiosity I started with the first two pages and found it quite doable up to the part mentioned. I noticed I have a tendency to always try hard pieces and work on them - might not be the best method to practice but I like trying the real stuff...

I hope one day i will be able to play this :)

  • Miluju Dvorak, a ja nesnasim klasicka muzika :D Rostropovich bude vzdycky v muj srdce :P

I always stick on a Dvorak playlist.... it's just crazy, how good it is. Especially with the whole 'classical music is stupid' sort of outlook these days :))

  • magnifico!:-)

  • Excellent performance

  • Know what else is sad? When someone says "i wish the majority of modern society could appreciate the classical style" when they haven't met the majority of modern society and only go by what television tells them and they try to sound smart with this statement.

News flash - just because something isn't on television doesn't mean people aren't aware of it or that they don't like it.

  • @DrunkenPiano don't be an ass, nobody in america knows about music like this. they're too busy shoving their faces with more fattening food and watching survivor or american idol all night. the masses are stupid, it's a fact. it truly is a shame the world does not appreciate more music like this

  • @itsumonihon you can't make massive generalizations based on the little bit of information you have gathered. you don't know all americans. i believe you're speaking of the US as CANADA is part of the continent of NORTH AMERICA. It's a CONTINENT and then there is SOUTH AMERICA.

  • @DrunkenPiano I can't speak for other generations, but I know that, in the United States, mine (I'm currently 16) does not generally appreciate orchestral music. Even in my school, which has won several state championships for music, almost nobody knows who Tchaikovsky is, much less Dvorak, Brahms, Sibelius, ect. Even students involved in music aren't much better, perhaps knowing the names of famous composers, but nothing about their works. How sad.

  • @itsumonihon I don't watch survivor or american idol. I like music such as this and I have been raised with it since I was a kid.

If we are to take a few generalizations and state them as "facts" then all Europeans are rude and tactless people who belong in caves where they can't infect the world with their rudeness and disrespect.

  • @MrTaikutsu IMO most europeans ARE tactless and rude

  • @itsumonihon Sadly the majority of the Europeans that are on the internet are rude and tactless. This is simply my experience with the french, italians, english, germans, and spaniards. Which may make up the majority of the internet users.

  • @itsumonihon Many Europeans jump to the conclusion that America is full of fat people, whilst this may be truth, we aren't the fattest in the world. England and several other west European nations are rising up on that fat list.

You seem to be one of those tactless people. I don't know if you're European or not but your statements are crude. Realize that a percentage is but a portion of a whole. You apparently don't know this.

  • @MrTaikutsu 阿呆

  • @PaulTortelier Reallly? How so? Give me a point in all my statements that would show that. You are the fool.

  • @PaulTortelier There was a ridiculous generalization made and so I mentioned what I come across more, how I would be considered foolish because of this makes you look rather stupid. Is it not true that it's not just America that has declining popularity in this genre of music? It is much of the world that is going through this decline. So that statement was obviously not well thought, perchance you should have directed your comment at someone else.

  • @MrTaikuts ウザ..

  • 54 people definitely had a slip up and accidently clicked on the dislike button...

  • Stunningly brilliant. One of my all time favourites. A magnificent start which builds over the next two movements.

  • Grande Rostropovich

  • Bow hand. Perfectly straight from the knuckles to the elbow, at nearly every moment. Can you say ridiculously awesome?

  • 54 people need to be sat down an given a stern talking to.

  • @tuopadrino oh yes!

  • @tuopadrino I like how -based on the type of video in question, the "# of dislikes comment + punishment" comment differs a lot in content, but is still there. So for a classical music video, "sitting down and listening to a stern talking" would be the equivalent of a "(#dislikes) should be gang raped" in a hip hop dance video.

  • @KnightMD

you appear to have a lot of time on your hands.

  • amazing

  • Love the bit at 6:14

  • it's just the reason for loving music

  • nenhuma palavra pode expressar oq o musico sente quando toca

  • the music most beauty of the universe this is art

  • I'm sorry, but du Pre's Dvorak is SSSOOOOO much better.

  • @cellobuddy youtube just removed her version!! :[

  • yes i would LOVE to use the vuvuleza with this music :D i joke i joke, vuvuleza sound is tht football pic near the full screen button (if people dont know)

  • 0:50 orgasm.

  • You may say some are more precise ; some play more in tune ; some put more delicateness.

But Rostropovich has something unreal : wherever he puts his bow and left hand fingers, the sound is the same, brilliant, robust, singing ; never weak or plaintive ; always enthusiastic and moving.

  • beautiful

  • I didn't know that Captain Kangaroo played clarinet in the London Phil

  • i love how hardly ANYONE that's posting comments about rostropovich or the cello concerto in general know what they're talking about.

  • this may be the case with you but, believe you me this is not the popular view, and unlike you think i think, people listen to her music for the same reason people would rather listen to rostropovich, instead of listening to some uknown artist, the point being she is unfortunately a role model, the reason i don't like her is that she is getting paid easily hundreds of thousands of pounds every month for practically nothing, as i said hedonistic society.

  • Why are people here reacting to someone who might like or might not like hip hop or rap or classical music? It's about Dvorak's cello concerto here. That's what you've been listening to, so react on THAT!

Having said that: I really like this performance. Good job!

  • @genevieverosejasmine but you must see that a lot classic fans hate hip hop and a lot hip hop fans hate classic. but both are good.

    thats an important discussion.

  • @vanboaconstrictor mostly the hip hop..is just abot sex...L prefer trova or rock, blues, ajzz..'cause it have something better to exprese(of course l just mean the hip hop 'cause the rap is something depper than that or the funk, etc.)

  • @cirecsc err rapping is one of the four major stylistic elements within hip hop (in other words, hip hop involves rapping, so it's fairly silly to separate the two as if they're different genres of music...hip hop is the genre, rapping is "the instrument"). And no, most hip hop is not about sex -- a large portion of it is especially radio music -- but the majority is not. Of course, it's a silly point, because a hell of a lot of rock music is about sex and nobody whines about it like hip hop.
