Notice just before Matsuda shot him four times, he said 'chichi?' That's language people use when talking to other family members about their own father. Poor Matsuda, loved Soichiro like his own father, and Light like his own brother (hence the 'chichi'). Seeing someone he loved like his own brother in the act of trying to kill someone and dismissing the death of his own father, poor Matsuda just snapped.

Matsuda kills Light in the anime but in the movie Ryuk kills him...the ending parts of the movie really dissappointed me, Ryuk wasn't supposed to have any personnal opinions about lights behavior and act according to them...he just didn't even care...Err anyways, Matsuda lost it, and Light too(he was already nuts to begin with), Mikami, Kiyomi,Misa,L...(well he has to be nuts also...about candy),Nate(nouts abot umm I forgot...toys?). Ryuk kills him in the anime too, Light runs away as he's dying and Ryuk was the one in the beginning who said he will be the one to write Light's name, and so he finishes him off. But still, Matsuda did most of the damage, and thank god for that I fucking hate Light, and Matsuda is the unsung hero of DN so bauss.
