@GonoManiax ugh...Triggerheart. I wasted money on that for the Xbox port. Cave, Treasure, Hell even TOUHOU does better less gimmicky danmaku than Warashi.
Not complaining about the new games coming out all being SHMUPs, but please make a beautiful high-def platformer. Would love to have some new variety Dreamcast games to brag about...
@usquanigo i guess its because i grew up playing Sega? i had it more fun than the PS2 to be perfectly honest. And the dreamcast never got the attention it clearly deserved, the first console to have online multiplayer, something xbox, nintendo, and sony have now copied. Sega pretty much made gaming what it is today in my eyes. I think as gamers we owe a lot to Sega, we may never have had online multiplayer if they never had thought about it.
@TheGoldenReach Understood, but my question was like asking why someone might wish for a re-launch of the Atari 2600. An exaggeration for effect. It's time has passed, no matter how much fun it may have brought someone, and even in it's heydey it was technically out-matched by competition. (Colecovision in this example)
@BrianlovesAmerica Dear Brian sucks America off. You must have a really sore azsshole. After all. not only have you been fucked by Sega when you bought the Dreancast, whih after 2 years became the PS2's bitch, but you are willing to taken up there again by paying a hell of a lot of money for a game which may or may not be released. But it's really all you have to look forward to isn't it. Shame
@Crepuscularman The thing I look forward to most is that look on your moms face after I give her multiple orgasms. But yes I also look forward to this game and I don't think that's all that strange. America rules you commie faggot
@BrianlovesAmerica Unlikely Brian, you're like your old man. A taker nat a giver. You wouldn't know what to do with a woman as you have never been with one.As for Commies,I would keep very quiet about that. The NVA in Vietnam certaninly kicked the American Military ass so much that your soldiers left with their tails between their legs and their balls well and truly kicked. As for the game, it may not be released if they cannot get the discs pressed.
@Crepuscularman: And yes, I would love to develop a Dreamcast game in my freetime if I had the skills. That is called dedication and passion. You could also just call it hobby. It seems that independent videogame development is not your cup of tea. Why are you wasting your time thinking and writing about it? Go play Call of Duty or Battlefield and enjoy the nice graphics.
@dreamcasting2008 And play what exactly. There were certainly no dreamcast games that I could play for more than a couple of minutes befure becoming bored seneseless I admit that good graphics and effects don't make a good game. But they can make an average game more bearable.
@Crepuscularman: So you actually played Pier Solar? Impressive. Why do I not believe this? And even more exciting: You already played STURMWIND, that bad R-Type clone with more than 137000 clicks on youtube. I think you never even played R-Type. I guess that's not your fault because I could imagine that you're twelve or something. And I think I found out what your hobby is: bashing the hobbies of other people to get their attention. I'm tired of this. Just shut the fuck up.
@Omnibot2010 Hit a raw nerve did I? I have never claimed to have played Pier Solar. If I want to play a Final Fantasy type game, I would play Final Fantasy not a copy. Neither did I claim to have played Sturmwind. How can I they haven't released it and might never if they can't get the disks pressed. Not that I would anyway. As for my age you;re wrong. I am not 12 and do actually remember R-Type having played it when it was fisrt released. As for the bad language just grow up
@Crepuscularman: You are getting on my nerves, that's for sure. I'm annoyed with myself that I even answer your rubbish. Videogaming must be kind of boring for you if you only play one game per genre. As a matter of fact you certainly can't seriously judge any game you never played. But I guess you already know that. You just get your kicks from bitching around about subjects you have absolutely no clue about.
@Omnibot2010 How can you praise and defend a game that you have never played. I may not have played it, but I can work out what it will be. Control a ship, fire at small enemies, collect weapon upgrades, destroy more small enemies then take on the big one who fires a hell of a lot of shots at you aad destroy it if you can then move on to the next level and do it again. An I missing something? Once again you are so wrong with your assumptions about me. Way to go
@Crepuscularman: Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us. Now that I understand that you are a videogame expert and shmup specialist who loves the Dreamcast, I totally understand why you keep posting comments here. Please carry on and teach us more about those things. I'm sorry for my wrong assumptions, you are simply the best.
@Omnibot2010 I am so sorry, I have misjudged you, I thought you were intelligent enough to know what postings on here are. Obviously by your last few postings I was wrong. You haven't worked it out that postings are individuals views and they may differ from yours which is to be expected. I won't tax you any more. Enjoy Sturmwind if it is ever released and I hope that it does not prove too challenging for you in any way.
@Crepuscularman You do make some points well maybe you only stick to certain types of games, but if you can't play ikaruga, underdefeat, powerstone, shenmue and a ton of fighters for more than a couple of minutes you are no gamer my friend....
@Omnibot2010 Actually, I have got no problem with independent game developers as they have been resposible for some very good games. But consider this, if Sturmwind had been released when the Dreamcast was on general sale all those years back how much interest would it have generated. Very little I would wager. The fact that it is the only game that may be released on the Dreamcast for a few years has got some of the last Diehard Dreamcast owners exited. Nothing else
@Crepuscularman: If you actually played Pier Solar, you wouldn't call it a FF clone. It's a 16bit RPG. Or do you think STURMWIND is an R-Type clone because it's a horizontal shmup? From your post: "After all it's a 2D shoot 'em up with to be honest not that good graphics compared to the newer consoles"
@Omnibot2010 You're right Pier Solar isn't a Final Fantasy clone/ It is no where near as good as that seroes. But it does mimic the gameplay. Characters under player control interacting with NPC's coming across monsters and taking them on in turn hoping to beat them before they beat you. Also don't flatter Sturmwind, it is no where near as good as R-Type it is just a boring game copying an old formula and looking very tired as a result
@Crepuscularman: Do you know Pier Solar for the Genesis/Mega Drive? Let me guess your opinion: "WaterMelon won't release another game because the graphics can't compare to today's systems."?
@Omnibot2010 Actually no if watermelon want to release another game for the Megadrive, then that is up to them. However, I would hope that they would not do another Final Fantasy claone. A bit of originality wouldn't go amiss. But if you actually read my post, I was talking about the mainstream game developers aho wouldn't want to work on the older systems. Unlike Watermelon and Duranik who really are niche developers working on commercially dead systems
@Crepuscularman: This is not about making money (ok, for RSG it is). Duranik have been working on the title for 6 years. If they wanted their hours paid they'd have to charge NeoGeo Prices.
@Omnibot2010 Of course it is about making money. Why would any software developer spend time writing a game only to give it away for free, I don't think it is a public domain game. Not at around 40 to 50 Euros anyway. If as you say that Duranik have been working 6 years on this game, I would have expected a better game that a boring shoot em up.If they have worked 6 years without any payment then bigger fools them. I wouldn't work for nothing would you?
@TheGoldenReach Considering that Sega could not give the machine away for nothing towards the end of it's commercial life, why would they want to relase any stock if they have it. They also are unlikely to develop for it as there would be very little if any profit for them and the same would be said for mainstream games developers. Also to be brutally honest, it is just not powerful enough to be able to carry todays games.
@Crepuscularman redevelop it? Redo all the graphics, new engine, slightly new look, new games or hd remakes of their previous titles, and there bobs your uncle, a relaunched Dreamcast.
@TheGoldenReach Unlikely. You seem to forget that the Dreamcast almpst finished Sega. What you suggest woulod prove too costly for Sega. It is also highly unlikely that many retailers would stock it as they got burned with the original Dreamcast with a lot of unsold stock. With regards to redeveloping previous titles in HD, Sega would be taking one hell of a risk to take their top devlopment teams off working on current machines to work on the console. Commercial suicide
@TheGoldenReach I have to admit, this looks really good, but, mostly it's just the backgrounds, the hero ship is a little dated looking. And that brings me to my comment - why would Sega wish to re-launch a piece of hardware that, technically, is less powerful than the best selling console of all time (the PS2).
I liked Sega, and wish to re-buy a Genesis. I just don't understan the passion for a less powerful piece of hardware. (not just you, I mean in general)
@usquanigo Well, technically you are right and wrong at the same time :). The Dreamcast and PS2 both had their strengths and neither were truly better but I could tell you from a purely hardware focus why I prefer the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast had more graphics ram and a much more efficient and therefore powerful graphics card. The Dreamcast had a better sound processor. The Dreamcast runs in native VGA (480p) and actually down-samples the signal for people who aren't using a
@BrianlovesAmerica VGA box. Trust me, it looks way better in VGA lol. Now the PS2 had much larger media space using the DVDs, a better processor, and a lot more support. Most companies were wary of the DC since the Saturn was such a commercial failure so a lot of money was pumped into the PS2 that was never available on the DC. The biggest difference is the longevity of both systems. Compare MGS2 to MGS3, the difference is astounding. The PS2 went through
@BrianlovesAmerica multiple years and generations leading to more familiarity with the hardware and better dev tools becoming available. In short, the Dreamcast being around for a bit over 2 years couldn't compare to the ~7 years the PS2 saw but if the DC had been around for that long it would be able to compete and excel in certain areas. The small processor means GTA3 would be near impossible on the DC but likewise the strong GPU of the DC makes Shenmue 2 impossible on PS2
@BrianlovesAmerica Just as a side note, the GC and Xbox destroy both consoles when it comes to hardware. I just prefer the Eastern feel of the DC and its games since I get enough Western Xbox style games on my vastly superior PC :)
@BrianlovesAmerica GC is inherently limited by it's media (vs PS2), & lacks DVD player functionality (all in one home entertainment is the way things were going even then). It is also rated at 6~12 million poly/s. It does not destroy the PS2.
XB has more raw power (unfortunately), but had other struggles to deal with. It also did not have the connectivity options the PS2 did.
In the end, the PS2 is still being made. None of it's rivals are. That's not for nothing.
Let me add, I am not down on the DC. I never owned one, but think I might like to. Mostly I just want another Genesis for Sonic. lol But there are some impressive things about the DC for sure. Mostly it was about accessories, connectivity, media capacity, etc. All things which are surpassed in the current (7th) gen, and were are on the cusp of the 8th.
If Sega were to re-enter the fray, it could not be with a 6th Gen unit. Nor even the name (stigma in the market). Start fresh.
@BrianlovesAmerica Both are 128bit, PS2 had a faster CPU _AND_ GPU, plus more system RAM. They were even in Sound RAM. The ultimate arbiter of such a discussion is raw output power. The PS2 can put out 16 million polys per second vs the DC's 3 million. Even if devs could instantly get 100% out of the DC, that's still < 25% of the PS2's potential.
Its not only the fact of raw power.A system to be sucessfull has to fully cover just evrything.Wii is the console you have to remeber.I dont think that the Dremacst can run Gran turismo 4 but also dont think that ps2 can run shen mue2!!
@dreamcasting2008 - This idea that the PS2 could not run SM2 is pure speculation. Without being a dev, I can't say for certain, but neither can you, or anyone else who claims it. Yes, the DC has more video RAM, but, the PS2 has twice the system RAM, and more in total overall. Who's to say you can't borrow some of that? Or use the raw power to work around the memory limit? Or modify it slightly but still run it?
Basically it's all speculation based on a love of the DC.
It is true that raw power is not everything though, because the XB had that title in that gen, but PS2 was king. This gen, PS3 has the title, but Wii is king (yet #3 in power).
But that isn't what we're talking about. This convo stems from my question of 'why restart manufacture of the DC now, when it's a gen behind and was even beaten in it's own gen' - meaning, there's no way it can stand up to the current round. And we're on the cusp of the next gen, to boot.
So, from a pragmatic stand point, it doesn't make sense. Yes, power is not everything, but, there wasn't enough popularity to save it then, why would there be now? It doesn't have a PSN/XBL equivalent, nor XMB/Dashboard, nor DVD or BD player, nor even a NIC.
All that could be addressed, but then you've changed almost everything, just keep on going and bring the specs up to date and make it an 8th Gen system with nothing in common with the DC. And that's back to my point. Ya see?
That's the only reason I mentioned the comparison to the PS2. I never meant to start a fight over which is better or why. It was simply a case of looking at the raw data and seeing that, yes, the PS2 was more powerful. Had that not been the case, had the DC been head and shoulders above it's competitors, then, maybe it might make sense for it to fit in now (re-release). But it wasn't. So it doesn't.
The non-game based features it lacks, combined with it's power lack just mean it would go nowhere in todays market I'm afraid. And as I said, the WiiU is not far away, and there's talk of XB720 and PS4, so if Sega was to release anything it could not be a DC, it would have to be something new. (would be neat to see, but, I don't think they want to)
from what i know you cant borrow the system ram to use it for Graphics ram!!!If you think like pc like systems which are built all simiral to this.If you do reverse engiring for this most sure is that you will face other major problems which the game will be unplayable. Its obvious! Each company made their system with their own future plans.Sega and sega companys knew exactly what to do to bring the system to its limits!!!!!!
Also with this sceptical Dreamcast can run Grand turismo 4.With modification, extenal ram, borrowing some from other resources. Its really silly doesnt it?Maybe i love Dreamcast but you cant even think normal things for the ps2!!
@dreamcasting2008 Well, I certainly got my question answered. It seems I've touched a nerve. The answer to why people are saying "bring it back" is because they (you) truly believe it was more than it actually ever was, & people who dare to suggest otherwise will be attacked (as you have begun doing).
You've also shown that you don't really know much about the internal workings or development. Yes, you can "borrow" RAM. And that doesn't help the DC with 26MB vs PS2s 38
You're acting in a similar fashion to the Mac fanbois.
Here's something that won't sit well, I'm sure - the PS Vita has a quad-core processor, 512MB of system RAM & 128MB of video RAM & can produce near PS3-like visuals. To say nothing of it's 6-Axis sensors, dual multi-touch surfaces, dual cameras, wi-fi, 3G & GPS.
A handheld today will smoke just about that entire generation. Don't try to obfuscate that point. It's not DC vs PS2, it's DC vs current market.
Only the second thing you say is right.I didnt attack to noone i am trying to say what its right. You say that.If you want to go deeper go play the Ps2 and feel ok with it.I prefer to play the Dreamcast wich is the best video game console of all time! The same thing i can say about the ps2.Its the most overhyped console of all time!Plus the ps2 can do the same anti ailising as the dreamcast!
@dreamcasting2008 You are proving my point. The PS2 was mentioned to provide emphasis. Nothing more. It is a fact that it is more powerful than the DC. CPU to CPU, and the PS2 has VU0 and VU1 on top of that. CPU+VU0 ~= to Gecko, in fact. More processing, more RAM = more power (than DC).
That doesn't mean the DC is bad. It was viable in it's generation - it was great in it's own way, but it was NOT the best. (of it's time) and THAT is the point.
@dreamcasting2008 Still in denial. Let me explain it for you - the DC is your favorite, that's an opinion. It is not "the best", because 'best' is a result of a comparison of features, capabilities & content, & in such a comparison, it does not fair well.
The way you bring up XB1 is truly bizzare. Are you high or something? BTW, you did mention the 'best' gaming platform there too - the PC. lol Most titles (& exclusives), most on-line play, most power, most control options etc
But that is something altogether different and irrelevant to this argument.
The DC was good, and visionary in many ways in it's time. But... it made a bad call about networking and media. PS2 (for example), having a NIC rather than modem, plus being a DVD player is more capable beyond just games. Oh, & it was more powerful for games too.
I never actually cared enough about any of these to argue, but, faced with this religious ignorance you show, I just can't seem to help myself. lol
@usquanigolets compare them no problem..Dreamcast:Wireless maracas,Wireless fishing rod,a ton of different controlers,Keyboard, mouse, microponeThe collest memory card ever with lcd,Dreameye camera,Sega net with Broadband internet,Online play,Vga support 480p,4 controlers, kiling titlles(at launch)...Plus most of the Dc games looks worst in ps2.No iam not high and yes xbox its the best graphical system overall,It powns everything.Ps2 hardware and Dreamcast so xbox its the best. This is how you thing
@dreamcasting2008 You do realize that I've told you that I am posting because you are a blind fanboi, right? That means I will not stop. I have no vested interest other than the mess with you because you can't handle reality. (I'm a PC guy, consoles are toys)
That said.... I beleive you meant "think", not thing. ;) And X-Box WAS more powerful than PS2. I've said as much before. You didn't pay attention. The point is the DC is > GC > PS2 > XB in terms of power. You denied that.
And that is the argument. It's not about 'favorites', it's about your unwillingness to accept reality, and insisting that the DC was the most powerful. It was not.
Titles? Well, PS2 had more and better overall. Regardless of why. Accessories? PS2 had a DVD remote. pwnd. lol Plus a hard drive, dance pads, guitar, drum and turntable controllers, plus everything else you mentioned for DC (except the rod, well, you can HAVE that one lol)
I anot here to change you mind nor mine.Espcally when you are a pc user who plays boring FPS!Graphics Graphics and the explosions explosions.Boring playing like nerd always the same thing.I prefer games pure 100% games!bought a ps3 and xbox360 i have a high end pc(bought it parts) regreted.I sold both.I prefer to have fun with crazy taxi 2,playing some with the maracas samba de amingo rather playing games which are all graphics and NO FUN.Better watch a movie with a lot effects its the same
@dreamcasting2008 You know what? We agree on something. I have long complained (bitterly) about the current game market being all about graphics and multiplayer & eschewing gameplay.
But you're wrong about my taste. Some FPS are good, ones with story (Wolfenstein series, CoD:MW series, HL, Duke, etc), but I'm a (combat) flight simmer, ROF, IL2, & SF2 mainly.
But my fav. series is Wing Commander, & my era is the FMV era of the mid-90s (Tex Murphy series, Phantasmagoria 2, Shivers 2, Labrynth... too many for me to recall right now).
Also love earlier stuff, Space Quest, Kings Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, the MechWarrior line until MS ruined it (#4).
And later stuff like Alice.
KB+Mouse offers greater control, more buttons, and better accuracy, plus the desk lends itself to stick+throttle+pedals, & leads to more immersion.
And then you get into all the non-gaming stuff it can do, from the net, to working, to photo and movie editing to programming, as well as the increased complexity possible due to the sheer number of buttons and the hard drive. The latter of which is only now coming into it's own on the consoles.
I would not have bothered with all this detail, but, you accused me of liking boring games and being an FPS-only guy. Not true. I wanted to show that.
(oh, forgot upgradability too, another advantage for the PC)
Anyway - you seriously got rid of your PS3 and 360? Do you realize that many Sega titles are on the PSN? More are likely to come too.
And have you seen Rocketbirds? Ratchet & Clank Future: Crack in Time? Sonic 4? Sonic Generations? Warp? Amalur? Arkham Asylum & City? Tekken 6? GT5? Brutal Legend? Heavenly Sword? Mirrors Edge? Rocket Men? Kung Fu Rider? Little Big Planet? All of those are great fun, many are very funny too.
I've bought more PS3 games in less time than I have for 2 or 1. I feel it pulling me away from the PC and, honestly, it worries me a little bit. I keep seeing new great game trailers or reviews or demos for either disc or downloadables and I want them. Plus PS Home is awesome. And I'm planning to get PS Move as well.
And.... 480p on a 55" plasma won't look so great, ya know?
For the record (if it matters), the reason I have a console at all is because of Gran Turismo. After renting GT1 and a PS1 at Block Buster several times, I broke down and bought my own. Then GT3 got me to buy a PS2, and I waited until GT5 came out before buying a PS3. I started getting more games to justify the expense. Now I almost regret it. lol
thats ok we both like video games. But no cod..Always the America are the heroes and the other people are bad..Come on.Propaganda my freind. I like to play games and have some fun.Mostly i prefer the one with better gameplay.I dont repeatitive things.I started Gears of war i quited.Always the same.;)
People mis use the word propaganda all the time these days. A game series from one perspective is not propaganda. Might as well say that God of War is Spartan propaganda. It's just plain silly to say something like that, just as it is silly to say it about CoD.
FYI, CoD4:MW1 has you playing mainly as a Brit, and only briefly as a US Marine (who dies).
All games are repetitive. Especially side scrollers. But that doesn't mean Sonic 1 isn't fun (or Mario 1).
It's not propaganda. I can see that English is not your first language (that's not an insult, I'm mono-lingual), so you may be going on what someone else has told you, but it's meaning has been distorted recently (somewhat intentionally, somewhat unintentionally). Propaganda is NOT the same as patriotism, or story telling for entertainment. There are big differences.
And I guess you're just another American hater. Typical.
@usquanigo Oh so you're a PC gamer...then answer me: Can you max out Doom 3 with Intel i7 + 64mb gpu? No? Now tell me, Pentium 4 + 128mb GPU? Hum...in one hand you have the very best processor, on the other a very low processor followed by the required video card, wich makes even an Intel i7 unecessary in the process.
@PersonaBrazil You are embarassing yourself, you have no clue what you are talking about, you're just pulling random jargon out of your ass. It's ok to like something, but wake up and get some perspective.
I'd rather not have to spend another week or more beating yet another fanboi over the head with reality... but I will. Just let it go, and walk away. You've dug yourself a whole to start and are seriously incorrect, don't make it any worse.
Whoever bitches about spending $40 on a NEW Dreamcast game needs to GTFO, especially when you can buy a system now for $5. I just hope it materializes as a purchasable game because it looks incredible!
@Crepuscularman: I never said that GunLord is a original game. Nor did I say it is out. Let's just see how these will sell and if those are the last two DC games.
@Knorpelgesicht Why pay money for a game that is almost a carbon copy of an old Amiga game unless you are quite desperate? Especially if they want around $40 which has been posted on here. they cannot be making that much money or they would have developed original titles not just copies of other games that do not take a lot of creative thought now. The dreamcast has a small albeit loyal user base but they are highly unlikey to be in suffucient numbers to games profitable
@Crepuscularman: Why would RSG have kept publishing Dreamcast games after Last Hope when they wouldn't earn any money from it? Do you think they do it as some kind of hobby? What do you think is the reason why NG:DEV:TEAM will release GunLord for Dreamcast? Because they learned in the past that the game will not sell? I really have no clue what you are babbling about.
@Knorpelgesicht Gunlord is a virtual copy of Turrican 2 which was released on the Amiga over 20 years ago. Not very original is it? Is Gunlord out yet? Sturmwind certainly has slipped. Neither will sell if they are not available and also will depened on how many dreamcast owners A) Know about the and B) are willing to fork out a lot of money for very unoriginal games
Can't see this being released. the fact that the company pressing the CDs went bust before any were pressed isn't a good omen. The problem is that if this game is released, do few copies will be sold that very little if any profit will be made. The Dreamcast wasn't a profitable platform when Sega released it 13 or so years back. If it is released. I doubt Red Spot will produce many more games for the system. Vapourware I think
@TheGoldenReach Considering it was supposed to be released in the second quarter of last year and supposing the original CD pressing company hadn't yet gone under. I wonder what their excuse was for why it wasnt released. After all it's a 2D shoot 'em up with to be honest not that good graphics compared to the newer consoles..
What the hell is this !!! Look @ these illmatic graphics on a DC game, shi...... glad i still got mine yo. The 2 dislikes must have sold of their Dreamcasts.
@frankie565674 They dont really answer this but i checked it out for you. At the current exchange rate be about $45 for Sturmwind. Gunlord about $41 regular edition Dreamcast. I dont think redspot is carrying gunlord think you have to go through NG themselves this time. Neither games is out yet i dont think. Well for sure Sturmwinds isnt.
das spiel ist einfach hammer. ich kann es nur weiterempfehlen. die beste konsole der welt bekommt ein neues spiel. an alle trottel die sich damals ne ps2 gekauft haben hier ist eure chance um eine wirkliche konsole zu testen
Just fyi to whomever stumbles on this the game has been delayed again due to a manuf. problem..not sure on release date im guessing after the new year...
@400yuan yes its the best system ever made after all....Why not..there are tons of forums, devoted fans, and games(indie) albeit maybe once a year are still been released..besides this there are several mods to existing games been released all the time..recently they have been people translating Japanese games as well...DC4EVER..
@BrianlovesAmerica Somehow I don't think that either PS3 or XBox 360 owners are going to eat shit as you hope. There have been mich better games released on both systems this year than this and many more to come
This game looks dramatically superior to the vast majority of the DC SHUMPs they've been putting out for years. The visuals are absolutely amazing, and it sounds longer than most SHUMPs.
@dreamcasting2008 Its been delayed since then then delayed again...and now(today) they just announced another delay...the game is complete though...The delay(this time) was in the pressing of the CD the company they dealt with went bankrupt a week before the CD was stated to get pressed..):
this looks far beeter than Soldner X , which looks far too much like a flash game. I must admit I thought indie dev its going to look alright, but Im blown away, Im fixing up a candy cab at the moment so I think Ill get this to fire up the old Dreamcast which I bought on lauch day -looks amazing, dare I say better than Ikaruga-impressive fellas, hopefully you guys get it onto PSN and Xbla for a widr audience, the Japanes will love this. Anyone remeber Axelay?
this game looks like star soldier! that was one of my favorite on n64!
speaking of which, do any of u know metal torrent for dsiware? thing is, i told nintendo thru the feedback surveys on club nintendo that they should consider making a star soldier game, like the one on n64, for dsi. 4 months later, metal torrent was announced. no bs! im serious!
Increible la calidad gráfica que demuestra DREAMCAST a estas alturas, quién lo diría. Y aunque alguien lo niegue con estos juegos la consola a durado mas de 10 años en el mercado dando software a los consumidores.
Game looks so bad ass, awesome to see DC still living on, thanks for the vid

Shame

Omnibot2010 1 month ago
@Omnibot2010 Hit a raw nerve did I? I have never claimed to have played Pier Solar. If I want to play a Final Fantasy type game, I would play Final Fantasy not a copy. Neither did I claim to have played Sturmwind. How can I they haven't released it and might never if they can't get the disks pressed. Not that I would anyway. As for my age you;re wrong. I am not 12 and do actually remember R-Type having played it when it was fisrt released. As for the bad language just grow up
Crepuscularman 1 month ago
@Crepuscularman: You are getting on my nerves, that's for sure. I'm annoyed with myself that I even answer your rubbish. Videogaming must be kind of boring for you if you only play one game per genre. As a matter of fact you certainly can't seriously judge any game you never played. But I guess you already know that. You just get your kicks from bitching around about subjects you have absolutely no clue about.
Omnibot2010 1 month ago
@Omnibot2010 How can you praise and defend a game that you have never played. I may not have played it, but I can work out what it will be. Control a ship, fire at small enemies, collect weapon upgrades, destroy more small enemies then take on the big one who fires a hell of a lot of shots at you aad destroy it if you can then move on to the next level and do it again. An I missing something? Once again you are so wrong with your assumptions about me. Way to go

tecnikturbo 1 month ago
@Omnibot2010 Actually, I have got no problem with independent game developers as they have been resposible for some very good games. But consider this, if Sturmwind had been released when the Dreamcast was on general sale all those years back how much interest would it have generated. Very little I would wager. The fact that it is the only game that may be released on the Dreamcast for a few years has got some of the last Diehard Dreamcast owners exited. Nothing else
Crepuscularman 1 month ago
@Crepuscularman: If you actually played Pier Solar, you wouldn't call it a FF clone. It's a 16bit RPG. Or do you think STURMWIND is an R-Type clone because it's a horizontal shmup? From your post: "After all it's a 2D shoot 'em up with to be honest not that good graphics compared to the newer consoles"
Omnibot2010 1 month ago
@Omnibot2010 You're right Pier Solar isn't a Final Fantasy clone/ It is no where near as good as that seroes. But it does mimic the gameplay. Characters under player control interacting with NPC's coming across monsters and taking them on in turn hoping to beat them before they beat you. Also don't flatter Sturmwind, it is no where near as good as R-Type it is just a boring game copying an old formula and looking very tired as a result
Crepuscularman 1 month ago
@Crepuscularman: Do you know Pier Solar for the Genesis/Mega Drive? Let me guess your opinion: "WaterMelon won't release another game because the graphics can't compare to today's systems."?
Omnibot2010 1 month ago
@Omnibot2010 Actually no if watermelon want to release another game for the Megadrive, then that is up to them. However, I would hope that they would not do another Final Fantasy claone. A bit of originality wouldn't go amiss. But if you actually read my post, I was talking about the mainstream game developers aho wouldn't want to work on the older systems. Unlike Watermelon and Duranik who really are niche developers working on commercially dead systems
Crepuscularman 1 month ago

If SEGA won't develop a Dreamcast 2, then they should re-release the original!
TheGoldenReach 1 month ago
@TheGoldenReach Considering that Sega could not give the machine away for nothing towards the end of it's commercial life, why would they want to relase any stock if they have it. They also are unlikely to develop for it as there would be very little if any profit for them and the same would be said for mainstream games developers. Also to be brutally honest, it is just not powerful enough to be able to carry todays games.
Crepuscularman 1 month ago
@Crepuscularman redevelop it? Redo all the graphics, new engine, slightly new look, new games or hd remakes of their previous titles, and there bobs your uncle, a relaunched Dreamcast.
TheGoldenReach 1 month ago
@TheGoldenReach Unlikely. You seem to forget that the Dreamcast almpst finished Sega. What you suggest woulod prove too costly for Sega. It is also highly unlikely that many retailers would stock it as they got burned with the original Dreamcast with a lot of unsold stock. With regards to redeveloping previous titles in HD, Sega would be taking one hell of a risk to take their top devlopment teams off working on current machines to work on the console. Commercial suicide
Crepuscularman 1 month ago
@TheGoldenReach I have to admit, this looks really good, but, mostly it's just the backgrounds, the hero ship is a little dated looking. And that brings me to my comment - why would Sega wish to re-launch a piece of hardware that, technically, is less powerful than the best selling console of all time (the PS2).
I liked Sega, and wish to re-buy a Genesis. I just don't understan the passion for a less powerful piece of hardware. (not just you, I mean in general)
usquanigo 3 weeks ago
@usquanigo Well, technically you are right and wrong at the same time :). The Dreamcast and PS2 both had their strengths and neither were truly better but I could tell you from a purely hardware focus why I prefer the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast had more graphics ram and a much more efficient and therefore powerful graphics card. The Dreamcast had a better sound processor. The Dreamcast runs in native VGA (480p) and actually down-samples the signal for people who aren't using a
BrianlovesAmerica 3 weeks ago
@BrianlovesAmerica VGA box. Trust me, it looks way better in VGA lol. Now the PS2 had much larger media space using the DVDs, a better processor, and a lot more support. Most companies were wary of the DC since the Saturn was such a commercial failure so a lot of money was pumped into the PS2 that was never available on the DC. The biggest difference is the longevity of both systems. Compare MGS2 to MGS3, the difference is astounding. The PS2 went through
BrianlovesAmerica 3 weeks ago
@BrianlovesAmerica multiple years and generations leading to more familiarity with the hardware and better dev tools becoming available. In short, the Dreamcast being around for a bit over 2 years couldn't compare to the ~7 years the PS2 saw but if the DC had been around for that long it would be able to compete and excel in certain areas. The small processor means GTA3 would be near impossible on the DC but likewise the strong GPU of the DC makes Shenmue 2 impossible on PS2
BrianlovesAmerica 3 weeks ago
@BrianlovesAmerica Just as a side note, the GC and Xbox destroy both consoles when it comes to hardware. I just prefer the Eastern feel of the DC and its games since I get enough Western Xbox style games on my vastly superior PC :)
BrianlovesAmerica 3 weeks ago
@BrianlovesAmerica GC is inherently limited by it's media (vs PS2), & lacks DVD player functionality (all in one home entertainment is the way things were going even then). It is also rated at 6~12 million poly/s. It does not destroy the PS2.
XB has more raw power (unfortunately), but had other struggles to deal with. It also did not have the connectivity options the PS2 did.
In the end, the PS2 is still being made. None of it's rivals are. That's not for nothing.
usquanigo 3 weeks ago
Let me add, I am not down on the DC. I never owned one, but think I might like to. Mostly I just want another Genesis for Sonic. lol But there are some impressive things about the DC for sure. Mostly it was about accessories, connectivity, media capacity, etc. All things which are surpassed in the current (7th) gen, and were are on the cusp of the 8th.
If Sega were to re-enter the fray, it could not be with a 6th Gen unit. Nor even the name (stigma in the market). Start fresh.
usquanigo 3 weeks ago
@BrianlovesAmerica Both are 128bit, PS2 had a faster CPU _AND_ GPU, plus more system RAM. They were even in Sound RAM. The ultimate arbiter of such a discussion is raw output power. The PS2 can put out 16 million polys per second vs the DC's 3 million. Even if devs could instantly get 100% out of the DC, that's still < 25% of the PS2's potential.
usquanigo 3 weeks ago
@usquanigo
Its not only the fact of raw power.A system to be sucessfull has to fully cover just evrything.Wii is the console you have to remeber.I dont think that the Dremacst can run Gran turismo 4 but also dont think that ps2 can run shen mue2!!
dreamcasting2008 2 weeks ago
@dreamcasting2008 - This idea that the PS2 could not run SM2 is pure speculation. Without being a dev, I can't say for certain, but neither can you, or anyone else who claims it. Yes, the DC has more video RAM, but, the PS2 has twice the system RAM, and more in total overall. Who's to say you can't borrow some of that? Or use the raw power to work around the memory limit? Or modify it slightly but still run it?
Basically it's all speculation based on a love of the DC.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
It is true that raw power is not everything though, because the XB had that title in that gen, but PS2 was king. This gen, PS3 has the title, but Wii is king (yet #3 in power).
But that isn't what we're talking about. This convo stems from my question of 'why restart manufacture of the DC now, when it's a gen behind and was even beaten in it's own gen' - meaning, there's no way it can stand up to the current round. And we're on the cusp of the next gen, to boot.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
So, from a pragmatic stand point, it doesn't make sense. Yes, power is not everything, but, there wasn't enough popularity to save it then, why would there be now? It doesn't have a PSN/XBL equivalent, nor XMB/Dashboard, nor DVD or BD player, nor even a NIC.
All that could be addressed, but then you've changed almost everything, just keep on going and bring the specs up to date and make it an 8th Gen system with nothing in common with the DC. And that's back to my point. Ya see?
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
That's the only reason I mentioned the comparison to the PS2. I never meant to start a fight over which is better or why. It was simply a case of looking at the raw data and seeing that, yes, the PS2 was more powerful. Had that not been the case, had the DC been head and shoulders above it's competitors, then, maybe it might make sense for it to fit in now (re-release). But it wasn't. So it doesn't.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago

Each company made their system with their own future plans.Sega and sega companys knew exactly what to do to bring the system to its limits!!!!!!

dreamcasting2008 2 weeks ago
@dreamcasting2008 Well, I certainly got my question answered. It seems I've touched a nerve. The answer to why people are saying "bring it back" is because they (you) truly believe it was more than it actually ever was, & people who dare to suggest otherwise will be attacked (as you have begun doing).
You've also shown that you don't really know much about the internal workings or development. Yes, you can "borrow" RAM. And that doesn't help the DC with 26MB vs PS2s 38
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
You're acting in a similar fashion to the Mac fanbois.
Here's something that won't sit well, I'm sure - the PS Vita has a quad-core processor, 512MB of system RAM & 128MB of video RAM & can produce near PS3-like visuals. To say nothing of it's 6-Axis sensors, dual multi-touch surfaces, dual cameras, wi-fi, 3G & GPS.
A handheld today will smoke just about that entire generation. Don't try to obfuscate that point. It's not DC vs PS2, it's DC vs current market.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
@usquanigo
Only the second thing you say is right.I didnt attack to noone i am trying to say what its right. You say that.If you want to go deeper go play the Ps2 and feel ok with it.I prefer to play the Dreamcast wich is the best video game console of all time! The same thing i can say about the ps2.Its the most overhyped console of all time!Plus the ps2 can do the same anti ailising as the dreamcast!
dreamcasting2008 2 weeks ago
@dreamcasting2008 You are proving my point. The PS2 was mentioned to provide emphasis. Nothing more. It is a fact that it is more powerful than the DC. CPU to CPU, and the PS2 has VU0 and VU1 on top of that. CPU+VU0 ~= to Gecko, in fact. More processing, more RAM = more power (than DC).
That doesn't mean the DC is bad. It was viable in it's generation - it was great in it's own way, but it was NOT the best. (of it's time) and THAT is the point.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
@usquanigo
No no wrong The best doesnt neceseraly means the"Beast of power" !!!!!
Each console has its own Advantages.
Xbox 1 its the Best console ever???I dont think so.It was like a Pc.
dreamcasting2008 2 weeks ago
@dreamcasting2008 Still in denial. Let me explain it for you - the DC is your favorite, that's an opinion. It is not "the best", because 'best' is a result of a comparison of features, capabilities & content, & in such a comparison, it does not fair well.
The way you bring up XB1 is truly bizzare. Are you high or something? BTW, you did mention the 'best' gaming platform there too - the PC. lol Most titles (& exclusives), most on-line play, most power, most control options etc
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
But that is something altogether different and irrelevant to this argument.
The DC was good, and visionary in many ways in it's time. But... it made a bad call about networking and media. PS2 (for example), having a NIC rather than modem, plus being a DVD player is more capable beyond just games. Oh, & it was more powerful for games too.
I never actually cared enough about any of these to argue, but, faced with this religious ignorance you show, I just can't seem to help myself. lol

You denied that.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
And that is the argument. It's not about 'favorites', it's about your unwillingness to accept reality, and insisting that the DC was the most powerful. It was not.
Titles? Well, PS2 had more and better overall. Regardless of why. Accessories? PS2 had a DVD remote. pwnd. lol Plus a hard drive, dance pads, guitar, drum and turntable controllers, plus everything else you mentioned for DC (except the rod, well, you can HAVE that one lol)
Even here you're losing & deluded. Why continue?
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
And here I made a really stupid mistake, I used the reverse symbol. That's what typing fast at work and not paying attention will get you.

Face palm moment for me right there, for sure.

dreamcasting2008 2 weeks ago
@dreamcasting2008 You know what? We agree on something. I have long complained (bitterly) about the current game market being all about graphics and multiplayer & eschewing gameplay.
But you're wrong about my taste. Some FPS are good, ones with story (Wolfenstein series, CoD:MW series, HL, Duke, etc), but I'm a (combat) flight simmer, ROF, IL2, & SF2 mainly.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
But my fav. series is Wing Commander, & my era is the FMV era of the mid-90s (Tex Murphy series, Phantasmagoria 2, Shivers 2, Labrynth... too many for me to recall right now).
Also love earlier stuff, Space Quest, Kings Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, the MechWarrior line until MS ruined it (#4).
And later stuff like Alice.
KB+Mouse offers greater control, more buttons, and better accuracy, plus the desk lends itself to stick+throttle+pedals, & leads to more immersion.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
And then you get into all the non-gaming stuff it can do, from the net, to working, to photo and movie editing to programming, as well as the increased complexity possible due to the sheer number of buttons and the hard drive. The latter of which is only now coming into it's own on the consoles.
I would not have bothered with all this detail, but, you accused me of liking boring games and being an FPS-only guy. Not true. I wanted to show that.
usquanigo 2 weeks ago

And.... 480p on a 55" plasma won't look so great, ya know?
usquanigo 2 weeks ago
For the record (if it matters), the reason I have a console at all is because of Gran Turismo. After renting GT1 and a PS1 at Block Buster several times, I broke down and bought my own.

So, VU0+VU1+VU2+VU?+Ultraman < powerful GPU.
In short, Raw power can't surpass Real power.

Crepuscularman 1 month ago
@Crepuscularman they're currently working on a deal with another CD Pressing company, and they said it should be out during March this year.
TheGoldenReach 1 month ago
@TheGoldenReach Considering it was supposed to be released in the second quarter of last year and supposing the original CD pressing company hadn't yet gone under. I wonder what their excuse was for why it wasnt released. After all it's a 2D shoot 'em up with to be honest not that good graphics compared to the newer consoles..
Crepuscularman 1 month ago
it is going to be region-free, it will run on (almost) every Dreamcast including PAL consoles.
Omnibot2010 1 month ago
Hi! Is this game gonna be released in PAL (European) version?

hey i have 2 questions. How much is this in us dollars and this or gunlord?
frankie565674 1 month ago
@frankie565674 They dont really answer this but i checked it out for you. At the current exchange rate be about $45 for Sturmwind. Gunlord about $41 regular edition Dreamcast. I dont think redspot is carrying gunlord think you have to go through NG themselves this time. Neither games is out yet i dont think. Well for sure Sturmwinds isnt.

This game looks dramatically superior to the vast majority of the DC SHUMPs they've been putting out for years. The visuals are absolutely amazing, and it sounds longer than most SHUMPs.
EkajTheSwordsman 3 months ago
@EkajTheSwordsman You have to figure, excluding Dux, the last shoot em ups to come out for the Dreamcast were ports of Neo Geo games.
