I pefer blades to. Mostly because when I end up attacking everywhere BUT the enemy, I can finish my fail attack quicker then when I use a long sword.

'Up is jump. Yeeeeeaaaaa, it's one of those games folks' - You mean like Street Fighter; one of the largest, most influential, well loved and widely played games ever made? Because that would make it pretty standard.

Fighting games play COMPLETELY different then all other games. And making jump a button would be stupid in a fighting game.

However, in a platformer, or sidescroller, in which one would need precise jumping or timed jumping...up being jump, makes it harder.

while I may have been taking the piss a little before the two games aren't wolrds apart. They're both side viewed 2D games with a focus on button combinations to perform attacks. To say that SF doesn't require precise jumping is way off (unless you enjoy getting battered) and, in fact, SF has more involvement with the D pad since it's used for attacks as well as movement but no-one has a problem with it. True it's not *ideal* for the 'platforming' segments but I think it's a non-issue.

Its a fun game, the using up as jump gets really annoying, especially when you try to glide, at least in brawl you almost always want to jump twice, but in Muramasa it takes practice to not use up both jumps on accident. The combat is solid and the game is beautiful. I like it, but I would recommend you rent it first if you can, just give the jumping a few days work before you make your final decision.

I also hate long blades - well, on ninjas. Ninjas don't even use long blades! Katanas are for samurai. Ninjas use throwing stars n' stuff, which are just as badass in my opinion.
