If your god wanted forgive everyones sins, why didn't he just forgive them? What was he trying to prove by sending his son down to be slayed; I mean, who was he trying to impress?
Well, that's where freedom of choice comes in. The Bible says that God wishes that none should perish. He truly wants you to choose him. As I type this I pray that the Lord draw you to Him.
That is the type of answer I expected from a religious person. You didn't even answer the question. It was too difficult, so you just talked around it.
Please dont pray that, I would prefer that you didn't.
Try reading 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins; it may help when you ask yourself the big questions that the bible doesn't answer, and other religious people just talk around and can never answer.
I had absolutely no intention of talking around the question. Second, I have no intention of turning this into a debate. Third,Christ had no intention to impress, but to do for us what we coudn't do for ourselves. Still,I'm not sure what you mean by big questions. Are they your big questions? Try reading "Can Man Live Without God" or "Who Made God?"by apologist Ravi Zacharias.
If you didn't want to turn this into a debate you would not have answered. 2000 years ago, anyone could have been crucified -for things as little as stealing bread- if you reasearch the period you will find that it was all the rgae back then. And I think you have missed my point. If you had an omnipotent god like christianity claims, then he/she/it could just forgive everyones sins without having his son/himself crucified.
Well its a year since the question was asked, but I thought I'd answer it anyway! :-)
God couldn't forgive people's sins without punishment, cause that would be unjust. If judges on earth let people off without punishment there'd be an outcry!
But because God is not only just, but also loving, he sent his son Jesus, who lived a perfect life without sin, to take the punishment of our sins for us: death. Its like if you had a debt, and someone came and paid it for you.

Given the characteristics of God, It seemed good for the Father to bruise his son - and thats incredible love... which we are lucky enough to experience it....
I'm just getting involved in student life at the Uni of Ballarat, its a scary thing to go out and do the surveys, I was going to today, but chickened out.
Man this is fucked! Reminds me of Jones Town. Why are they bothering everyone? Keep your faith to yourself.
