My favorite version of this song was a live version performed by Faces ! The studio 45" single , done by Faces was not as good. This live version brings back memories when the 1970's rock era was at it's greatest !

Beethoven also had a good rep as a performer

And we know McCartney brings down the house

But today, we can hear Glenn Gould play Bach. And it's great.

And we can hear Rudolf Serkin play Beethoven. And it's greart.

And we can hear the Faces play McCartney. And it's great.

if you are referring to Ronnie Lane then check him out with the 'Small Faces' and 'Slim Chance'. He is the one of the world's great song writers, musician and incredibly beautiful man - hear him in 'Slim Chance' and your life is changed and of course the best band ever ever 'SMALL FACES'. Ronnie Lane is loved and missed by many many people

Comparing rod Stewart and Paul McCartney is a no no, rod has belted out some outstanding songs, but he is and will always be a rock-singer,I am a fan. Macca has written or co written well over two hundred classic numbers, he is without doubt a prolific song writer and accomplished musician,there really is no comparison,rod is just not in that league

Paul McCartney wrote way more then a "few half decent songs" especially compared to rod stewart. and Ronnie lane's singing on this sounds way better than stewarts. I usually don't like to partake in the arguements on here, but Rod's voice sounds like sandpaper, I just don't dig his rasp.

the rasp in rods voice is exactly what i like about it. he cant write songs for shit, and macca is a songwriter, but i dont think he is a GREAT songwriter. i never really liked the beatles. i prefer the stones, which is not surprising as i like rods voice. i like the bluesy kind of rock from this era, and the faces, and the stones did that very well.

just an opinion, like yours.

well, this is a different type of music, but a great songwriter is nikki sixx. johnny thunders was pretty good. steven tyler and joe perry are a great songwriting duo (or they were in the 70's and 80's, they dont write much of their own songs now).

you mean macca wrote such great, historical and influential hits like "the frog chorus"?

just joking again, and ill admit that macca is a better songwriter than rod, but rod is a better rock star.

This is better than McCartney's version, and I love his...it's inspirational! Brilliant, even. Slow burning, emotional, a little drunk but not *too* much...the likes of Oasis only wish they could perform as good as The Small Faces/Faces in their heyday!!!!! And Stewart was only good with them and Jeff Beck...Ronnie Lane is so great here at the beginning, just before giving it gracefully to Rod. Classy. Epic. Like a fine wine, aging *very* gracefully.
