My friends sang this to me without the music and I started to fall asleep... Let me tell you, she sings it WAAAAAY better! And it probably sounds better without the music.
@ChaseTheBreeze Actually, her life expectancy might only be in the thirties, considering she was a slave all of her life. Plus there are other factors like heat exhaustion, work related accidents, disease, and infection to consider.
As sweet and sad as it was that in the movie she had to say goodbye to him. In the Bible account, Miriam is bolder and goes up to the princess with an offer to go to fetch a nurse for the baby Moses and it's his mother. So she raised him, even if he didn't know that was mom.
This version is a great example that pop singers should leave these kind of songs alone. The original had good enough singing as it is. They should learn not to cling to a good song and try to remake it as their own.
both versions of this are beautifully done and if youlisten to them both no matter what version, it gives youa sense of love and peace and you can feel the emotino behind the writers words who wrote the song
No knocks, Amy Grant is good here, great. I just really would have loved to hear Ofra singing the full version. Man, I wish they had released that too. She was amazing!
@kurwaus wait WHAT?!?!! OMFG that makes me wanna cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :{{ i thought she was alive ._. stupid me :[ wait how did they mention it to him? I didn't hear it.
@tombraideress They don't really mention it, but it just implied because the main characters have aged so much so it's not possible for her to still be alive after all those years.
@kurwaus well if you think about it they may not of had a really long life expectancy what with being whipped every day and working as hard as they did...they didnt exactly have safe work conditions now did they
@kurwaus Yeah, I believe that because back then people didn't live that long. They could die of old age at like 40 because of all the hard labor and no medicines for illnesses :(
@kurwaus All that is mentioned in the bible is that after putting him in the nile she moses's mother actually was chosen to nurse him and ramses, as a domestic slave. she then lives on and dies of old age.
@AthleticAce Ok, did you know moses was probably something like eighty years old when he went to egypyt? Just fun fact that might help you understand. :)
@BrianaTrujillo123 She never died. when he found out where he was from, he decided to visit his family. when he dose, his mom is still alive. they just took it out for time in the movie
I like both versions of this song, they're both beautiful, but honestly I have to say I think I like this version a little better. I didn't really care too much for the movie (no one throw bricks at me for that lol) but I do like the music from it, especially this song.
@rvgmuhs07 Yeah it is. I like the music from the movie better than the actual movie itself, though. Lol, I'm weird like that though, I guess. I'm the same way with Battlestar Galactica too, though. I don't care much for the series but I love the music from it.
@rvgmuhs07 Yeah, I'm kinda the same way. I've never really seen Babylon 5, but I like Star Wars, and Star Trek... I never really got much into it but I do like one episode of it.
omg i love this song so much, thank you so much for posting it its my favorite, movie ost of all time its so peaceful and so dear, make me wander about my mom, i wish she could sing for me like once ago she did ., best song ever
This version of the song underlines what a fantastic performance Ofra Haza delivered us in the film and why no-one else could give the song what Ofra gave to it.
That is not a criticism of Amy Grant's talent.
It is a commendation that Ofra Haza should be remembered in the 'Music Halls of Fame' as one of the most talented singers of all time.
@leJiNX But the lyrics of the original had more meaning as well. This version is just a lullaby, there's no real meaning to it. Just an observation ;)
@KNJGSY ikr no one can touch her performance i hate this so much when people touch fantastic perfect songs. It's not needed and can't be beat. Ofra Haza gave more effort and feeling.

Yes it is. They're only early fourties at most as adults. And their mother could be early twenties. Meaning she'd be very old, but still alive.
ChaseTheBreeze 2 months ago
@ChaseTheBreeze Still alive by today's standards possibly, but you have to remember that the life expectancy was much lower back then.

Why did you set the title as Performed by Amy Grant, when the version in the video is sung by Ofra Haza?
InuyashaLuv111 3 months ago
@InuyashaLuv111 Because the film version is sung by Ofra Haza, which is indicated in Track 2. This is a separate version sung by Amy Grant.
