hey my dads a lineman in ventura ca begining lineman get paid 36 a hour and expirence lineman get paid 50 a hr...u get a 401k... and great benefits...im in training right now
A lot. Southern California Edison pays about $41/hr for journeymen. Tons of overtime (and doubletime) too - top earners can break the $300k a year barrier. Los Angeles pays about $43 an hour.
From who I have talked to, it's not easy at all. In fact it's really hard work. Hard to get into as well.
Im a lineman from the east coast and this video is really great. greatest profession in the world. only the guys who do really know what its like and this vid gives you a little glimpse of what we do. really great vid. lots of respect for everyone in this profession.
I'm not a lineman, but I used to work on communications towers here in Southern NZ. There is nothing better than working 50m up on corner of a tower in the middle of nowhere. Awesome video of how rigging should be done!
dose any body free climb anymore, my company just caught on to the buck squeeze all the new guys have to use it but its comming for the rest of us I am afraid.
The bucksqeeze is the most commonly used and a lot of companies are now adopting it. It takes alittle practice but after you learn how it works you will find it wont slow you down. I learned free climbing but now use the bucksqeeze or the hitch hiking method. If it saves just one life its worth it in my opinion. I also have a responsibility to lead the way for my apprentices and since the industry is going the way of the Bucksqeeze I figured that I would start using it.
It is going to be an ohsa requirement that free climbing will be banned...bucksqueeze is going to be required soon and it is really safe..once u get used to it, its not that bad
im a lineman in england for edf energy, (we send a team to the kansas rodeo), your college looks the dogs danglys!!. ours sucks ass big time!!!. on the upside, climbing rocks! jointers are all homs!!!
nice video, i am in the lineman program for firstenergy, we get to climb an 80 foot pole and hang flags up there, it's tons of fun! higher you go, the more fun it is!
I work for ComEd Chicago's Electric Co. and i'll be going for a 7 day climbing school. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as conditioning and what muscles to exercise to prepare me for this.
If you can't free hand, how u gettn over that cross arm, catv and phone? only thing a lineman with a double safety is good for, is runnin that hand line. They dont turn out lineman like they use to
they use a double safety. Alot of companies are now looking at or have gone to 100% attachment. One of the most recent is PG&E here in CA which is one of the largest IOU's in the country
i dont climb 100% attached, i free climb up and down, the only time i have my safety on is when im working, but to each his own. Oh, "Without Linemen, There Would Be No Light"
