can anybody explain the difference in communist unit designations? the NVA 324B Division?? what's the B for? is it less well armed and trained than an A division? just curious

@grvc44 north vietnam were supported by china and russia, while the south were supported by the western countries opposing communism. they did not want to invade north vietnam fearing china and russia would send their armies to support north vietnam (like american in south vietnam), china and russia has been sending arms and equipment to support north vietnam effort. same reason they don't invade south vietnam themselves, fearing direct conflict with western nations would escalates the cold war.

@grvc44 same reason US never had any armies cross into north vietnam. none of them wants to be the one who escallates the cold war without direct provokation. vietnam was a civil war, one of the sides happens to be communists so the super powers decides to stick their noses in vietnam and use it as a battlefield for their ideals.

@grvc44 the only reason america went to war in vietnam was to stop the spread of communism, but they don't dare to have direct arms conflict with china and russia by crossing into the north. the south vietnam government was corrupted, hence why the vietcong had so much support and recruits in the south and absolute support in the north. the whole thing was messed up from the start and would never have succeeded.

@penitent2401 yes indeed, but you are wrong because south vietnam was politicaly strong! and bseide the vietcong's massive recruitment is because thousands of former vietmen has stayed in south vietnam..!!
