Nicely played overall. I would suggest a bit slower tempo as things are a bit rushed at times. Just because you have the technique to play fast doesn't mean the music calls for it. Also, comments about more pedal in places are right on; it's a bit dry. All things considered, it is an exciting interpretation with good attention to rhythm and dynamics. (As to the negative comments, especially JIMNUZ, they are nothing but sour grapes - - - ignore them!).
I don't take this piece quite as fast as you do but its excellent at this tempo anyway! That was great! I know how much of a pain in the ass this song can be!
wow. thats awesome. i'm workin on that piece now. only thing i would say was i didn't like 1:07-1:13. you know what i'm talking bout. but yeah. really really really good. oh and that last little run at the end. KILLER. :D
You might want to sustain it a little more in the beginning and slow it down a notch; those first two measures are supposed to be done "freely" so it's a good idea to alter the rhythm a little to add more "oomph" to it - I've played it too and other than that it's better than my version :)
i love the song but it seems a little too fast. the spanish prelude is supposed to be the fastest and the first is supposed to be in between the second and third. the first notes are supposed to be held out longer as well
hey, i play this piece too, but started to learn just few weeks ago and i dont rly practise much... but i play it way "deeper" and a bit slower, using far more pedal, specially on the third page
I am working on this piece also. I really love this piece. The one part I am having trouble on is the very last part where you do the quick scale up. Is there any tips you can give me on that or is it just practice makes perfect?
is it just me, or does it look like the piano in this vid is not being played at all? it looks like you're just running your hands over the keyboard and the music is superimposed, actually. apologies if this is not true......
great job! i've heard a few other recordings and you can tell that you've really got the "feel" of this piece...i recently started learning it so i'm still trying to get there...any tips? :P
PianoBarry87. Although in the score is writen "ben ritmato e deciso", it has to have a groove. And as a brazialian guy i cant stop thinking about the relation of that rhythm and "baião" thats a very popular notheast rhythm based on a 2/4 subdivided in 3 3 2...
I think that we have to interpretate the songs, and we shouldnt follow it as a religion... we have to put some of us on it, otherwise we can just play a cd...
i liked you interpretation! i feel you felt "at home" in this peace. There´re a lot of people that play it on youtube and yours is between the ones i liked the most.
I agreed with your tempo. It looks like people want to end the peace fastly. I feel it more like you.
I don't like it when some parts of this piece are played out of time. I believe Gershwin wanted everything in solid time. It is obviously a jazz piece and it should groove.
yep same. the left hand rhythm should be constant from start to end and in each bar for the left hand the first rest is a semiquaver rest while the next is quaver, so in effect there should be a slight delay after the second chords. but for some reason alot of people, even professionals don't get te rhythm right first and I think people try to play too fast too?
The rhythm isn't really that difficult. It is basically two dotted quarters then a quarter written in 2/4. The whole song is based off of that rhythm.
i couldn't disagree with you more... Gershwin did not his music constricted by "strict time", he didn't like "rules".. obviously you wouldn't play this piece like you would chopin- all romanticized.. but i think Gershwin would have wanted a little rubato in places where its appropriate
Bu şarkının kulağımın pasını sökmesi gerekmiyormu? Ritim felaket ve notalar arası çok duruyorsun, notaların hakkını vermiyorsun!

I've been playing piano for 11 years now, and I play this song. This IS Gershwin, only the person playing the piano isn't complying with the rythym written on the notes... Isn't this song supposed to sound nice to us?
unique style...nice!

I agree that the rhythm is the hardest to master. Especially if you're really used to non jazzy pieces. I know cuz I'm working on it right now.

great job!
i think the dynamics could be a little extreme though. the ff sounded like the f.
maybe it's just me or my speakers.

try some pedal, that is written into the music.

I'm still trying to get over the syncopation. The leaping isn't that daunting compared to the rythym. Lets iron out our mistakes!
