IS IT TIME?! Go to USRevolution2 (dot com) and get your flag of the Second American Revolution. They look exactly like the flag of Betsy Ross, but with a Roman numeral “II” in the center of the 13 stars. They are made in American (Texas) and are now seen on FoxNews nearly every day. Our flag also appeared recently in episode 7 of this season “Weeds” on Showtime. This flag is now in all 50 states and spreading from porch to porch. They make great gifts for family, friends and recovering Liberals.
@robertmike57 LOL THE IGNORANT HARD LEFT SPEAKS AGAIN. Corpofascist faggoty. Nice punctuation. Wonderful grammar and I love your ability to create new words. Def workings of a hateful, ignorant hard left individual. Thanks for playing the part.
@funkopotamus1 Do you right wing retards ever wonder why guys like this wears pretentious clown costumes, have some acting ability for which they get paid with good production values? It's because it's rich billionaire cocksucksers are putting up the money to produce this shit to convince the middle class everything is wonderful. Now go fuck your mother.
@robertmike57 BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. WOW. Pure ignorance of the left. Again thank you for playing the part. The ironic part about it is that you are actually DUMB enough to believe what you wrote, which makes PERFECT sense. Brainwashed by the ignorant, uneducated left. Same old story, got more hate than you do sense. Good luck with that buddy.
@funkopotamus1 Can't tell me who initially funded this pile of shit of can't cut it actor? And you call me ignorant? Hell, shit stupid conservative retards love Bob Bastard, he's one of them...NOT!
@robertmike57 BUAUAUAH. I am sorry. I would LOVE to respond to your comment. However I am unable to because I am unable to understand it, GREATLY due to the fact that I do not speak MORON. LOL. Seriously, does your ass get jealous of the shit that comes out of your mouth. Listen up here Short Bus, pull your head out of your ass, put down the bong, get out of your grandmother's basement pick up a book and educate your dumb ass. OR Have somebody with have a brain transcribe you
... Was Thomas Paine just the only founding father you could think of? You do realize he was liberal for his time, right? He was actually attacked for it. This only makes this video weird, as if you picked his name at random without reading anything he wrote.
all these things this guy is complaining about, corporate overlords have added to these problems we have, tyrany comes in many forms not just GOV.everytime the GOV.offers a hand up,people like this guy calls it a hand out.our welfare state CODDLES the rich.corporate america is not broke, there just kicking the door shut for everybody else.if obama was so liberal, the left wouldn't be so angered at him,he passed the bush taxcuts and the consevatives give him no credit for that.
His delivery sounded just like Hitler! Over the top, hysterical, racist, jingoistic. Furthermore, it sounds like Hitler WROTE the speech too. It sure wasn't Thomas Paine. It was a mockery of Paine, which anyone who ever read him, or even the most basic student of history would know. So this garbage is just radical propaganda. Out of 250 million views, it amazes me that less than 3,000 actually bought this load of crap. Very sad for America when people are that brainwashed. Just like with Hitler.
Funny as soon as Anyone says anything against Obama they're somehow instantly labled a "racist." He's speaking nothing but truth here friend. And if you're too blind to see the very facts in plain sight, then I do truly feel sorry for you. Next time before you spout off this mindless banter to someone read up on history yourself. America was the most prosperous nation on the plant pre-1913. The Federal Reserve was rushed in and now where do we find ourselves?
@operasanger BUAHAHAHAH. Ladies and Gentlemen. THE IGNORANT LEFT. It is a KNOWN FACT, every time a conservative makes sense and puts the left on the center stage of hate (where it belongs) the word RACIST WILL ALWAYS BE THROWN. They ignorant hard left KNOW they have no leg to stand on in ANY conversation with a Conservative. THEY ACTUALLY KNOW the bullshit that comes out of their mouth is bullshit, so they only thing they can come with is to CALL US RACIST. Desperation is a stinky cologne
if you disagree with this, go get a gun and learn to use it so you can protect yourself. freedom isnt lost all of a sudden, it is lost slowly. learn from your history, we are right on track for a police state..........
Who the fuck cares what these slave owning, indian slaughtering, woman enslaving people thought? These people had no concept of what this world has become.
The one thing Ive figured out regarding those on the extreme left is that its a religon to them . They are for the most part college educated which in itself denies religon in every form except those that are politically correct . They thirst for religon but cant handle the negative stigma associated with traditional religon so they become liberals.. And they willing to give up all their rights for their beliefs I.E. religon......They are no different than any other religous fanatic
Is this SHIT for real??? I truelly love the rhetoric but America is NOT run by Americans. It is run by Aniti-Americans, Liberials, Socialists and by a Anti-American Muslum President, Barrack Dictator Obama! GOD SAVE THE KING!
I agree the principles of our founders should be taught the sooner we can get our young people to see the benefits of slavery, smuggling and tax evasion the better off they will be.
@Crazydog7 What are the principles of Socialists? Check out the history of Russia, China, Cambodia, Cuba, etc. Check out the Cultural Revolution, Stalin, Pol Pot, Kilmer Rouge, Castro. We are all tax slaves, to a system of tax and spend.
"If a man is compelled through taxation to support something he adores it is tyranny and a sin." Thomas Jefferson
Citing the examples of tyrants isn't an argument its a provocation. Did I say anywhere in there I necessarily agreed with the policies of the socialists? People hold up these "founding father" people as some form of biblical paragons forgetting that more then a few of them were slave holders and smugglers
You guys have wonderful soundbites but you don't have an more of an idea on how to fix the problem then any of the rest of our corrupt politicians.
@Crazydog7 The founding principles in the Constitution created the most prosperous society in history. European Monarchs brought slavery to the New World, not the States. Slaves were worked to death in the Caribbean; they proliferated in the Colonies. The colonies did smuggle goods and services to avoid the Stamp Act. Bring back King George and his taxes compared to our federal cartel of corrupt politicians.
@brainerdrebel The taxes for the american colonies under king george were pathetically low,, of course you'd want to bring back a system were taxes are less than 3% of GDP.
@Fuctmentality a pathetically low tax? Taxes suppress the economy; Why do you think companies leave the States? Half our taxes go to ridiculous projects, like a shrimp on a treadmill. Your income tax doesn't run our federation of states, it goes to the federal reserve as interest on currency debt. Government pensions and benefits take up most of our local and state taxes. There is no good tax, education should be local and the families using it paying for it. Gas tax pays for the infrastructure.
@brainerdrebel I would think that laws against America producing certain goods would be the main thing that suppressed the colonial economy, you know the Navigation Act ,Iron Act,Sugar act, Molasses act et al. Our taxes are not the taxes the Crown imposed upon the american colonies, the federal reserve did not exist in colonial america. Understand that Modern America is NOT colonial America. & Yes <3%/GDP is a low tax rate.
Yo Bomba, where is my check Dude? I thought you were going to pay my bills, Dude? You still wasting money on Iraq and Afghanistan, Dude. Quantanamo still open, Dude. You still giving all the countries in the world foreign aid and I am broke. All them bombs in Libya cost million and my goverment crib is old. Bomba you haven't CHANGED anything, Dude. The brothers are upset Dude, we thought we were goin to get a Chevy from GM and you pay the payments. I think the white man is coming out in you.
Representative Democracy? Thomas Paine would know what form of government we have. He would have said a Republic, not a Representative Democracy. The founders would be rolling in their graves knowing that Thomas Paine would call us a Democracy since they fought so hard to get us a Republic.
@ladalang the average American is a conditioned clown. If we were a Representative Democracy our Representatives would poll their constitutes and vote based on the majority's results. The terms these clowns come up with. What happened to real education?
You got a admire the stones of the tea party that they'll pimp out dead guys for their cause. I wonder how long before they get Christ on that podium?
This has NOTHING to do with Thomas Paine's real views. It is a TOTAL tea party distortion of reality and exemplifies how they intend to REWRITE reality and history. Take it as a warning. Tea party zombies = 100% two faced hypocrites. They say to get out of individual's lives, but all they REALLY do is try to pass unfair and laws over individuals and OUTLAW real freedom for individuals. Total hypocrites...
Americans spilt blood first for global freedom? That's funny, seems history teaches that England was fighting before we were in both WWI and WWII. Does this idiot even bother to read history?
Sir,with exception of a few, your throwing pearls before swine, the indignation you seek in we the people is righteous indignation , we have lost our moral bearing so we have lost the Right to the Constitution ,we need the blessings of an Almighty God , Can a sparrow fall from the sky without God knowing it or a nation rise without his help , No: man, greed and the Economy which has collapsed is only a symtom of a systemic failure to obey Gods commandments ,statutes and accept his judgements
How could a 224 year old document support half of the institutions and duties of the Federal government of today? When will we realize that change and adaptation is better than holding onto irrelevant and ancient scripts?
We ignorantly divide ourselves into political groups and form ideologies without true understanding. We need to unite as a common people and realize that we share a lot more in common than we believe.
@instableme How sad that you can actually watch this and still think it is BS. You are selling your freedom for a false sense of security and deserve neither.
I apoligize for nothing my forefathers did in the past. it is because of them that I am what I am today. their decisions may not have always been "politically correct" or the most popular decisions according to the rest of the world, but I know they made the right decisions for people like me. God Bless Freedom!
im so sick of people running from the word socialism its not communism but to know that you would have to read a book not just watch fox news and since half of americans cant tell shit from apple butter that will probably never happen
To those of you who think we 'old people have nothing left to contribute. We will defeat the foolishness of youth for their own good. We will return to the principles on which this country was founded. WE VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's ok in a year he will be using Medicare and Medicaid (which is a government run program) and he will be using Social Security and asking for his elderly discount at Walmart. Then he will go and suck up to the big corporations hoping for crumbs in exchange for political support.. The only good old ppl like him can do is to die little faster and to leave this country to the young people like us. Their time has passed, their politics are from the last century and last millennium. GO AWAY.
Right-wing authoritarianism is measured by the RWA scale. The first item on the scale states, "Our country desperately needs a mighty leader who will do what has to be done to destroy the radical new ways and sinfulness that are ruining us." People who agree show authoritarian submission (Our country desperately needs a mighty leader), authoritarian aggression (who will do what has to be done to destroy), and conventionalism (stop all progress) RIGHT WINGERS ARE SUBMISSIVE LITTLE CUNTS
I do not give this illegal presidency any curitisies or respect. I cringed every time you said "SIR". He is not Sir. He is a servant boy a coward servant boy. Stop saying Sir. You and millionsvof Americans in protest and Folks like Ron Paul deserve to be called Sir.
People in the Tea Party need to dig deeper to understand the threat to their country.
Cultural Marxism (known as Political Correctness), socialism, mass illegal immigration, and NeoConservativism all have the same thing in common: They are Jewish intellectual movements that are hostile to the West. We are now under the control of Hostile Elites.
Google the works for Dr. Kevin MacDonald. Also visit his site The Occidental Observer. See his paper "Understanding Jewish Influence"
The United States was a Constitutional Republic. A federation of free, sovereign, and independent states, that ratified a Constitution to limit the confines of the federal government. The original Union ended in 1871 when international bankers forced the government to incorporate, we have been a corporation since. The corporation bankrupt in 1938, the creditors own the congress, the states and the president. We now operate under the Uniform Commercial Codes, the Constitution is void.
Cia5000, you're a miserable sack of shit. Why don't you argue your points? You can't. You're a windbag. You have a world view that isn't supported by facts, logic, history or reality.
@nakedstupidity YOUR THE ASS HOLE OF ALL ASSHOLES AND I WOULD AND COULD KICK THE HOLY SHIT OUT OF YOU. IF YOU HAD THE GUTS TO BACK UP YOUR SHITY MOUTH.
@TheKenTerry Clearly you have never read or simple never understood any of Paine's writings. Your statement is either meant to be grossly ridiculous or you're just flat out lying. Second chance... read or re-read Common Sense by Thomas Paine... that's P A I N E... and then think about the statement you have posted here. I am predicting you read my post get emotional and post another ridiculous post. But I'll hope for change.
Read The Age of Reason and think about what you have posted here. I don't need to get emotional because I have read everything from Mr. Paine over and over, I know i'm right. He pushed his hardest to implement social programs for the poor and the old, he also would never say "God bless". Thomas was more of a socialist than anyone of the others, he believed everyone should be equal, or in the least be given a chance to be; he was also one of the only ones who hated slavery.
@TheKenTerry Somewhat true, and yet you miss the mark, just a little. Thomas Paine was a theist, and thought he DID advocate social democracy, his vision of social justice was that everyone have an equal opportunity, not an equal financial platform decided by government. Nothing in this speech is contrary to what Paine would've promoted. We (as a country) have gone WAY beyond what Paine envisioned!
Haha, well i'm glad someone else agrees. His idea of teasing Thomas Jefferson was changing the Bill of rights to add the abolishment of slavery, everytime he would do this Jefferson would be like "WTF brah, stop it".
@TheKenTerry I am looking for good video's that represent thomas paine's true messages to show to people, can you send me links you think represent his message correctly?
I wish I could show you. I'll just say his message was the people always have the power. The more the Government gives, the more the Government can take away.
It's easy to assume the mantle of a patriot, but not as easy to understand & faithfully represent the intent of the Founders. Mr. Basso is totally WRONG to continuously refer to our nation as a democracy; it's a REPUBLIC, and here's WHY: /watch?v=DioQooFIcgE
Mr. Basso, you were an accomplished career broadcaster before you retired. You served the establishment media & their owners well. Why do you persist in calling our REPUBLIC a democracy? I once explained the difference to you.
@Fuctmentalit The US is not a Democracy, it's a Republic, meaning "leaders" represent, you know, they are called "Representatives" for each state because the people are too stupid to be trusted to represent themselves and be a TRUE democracy.
@iamlost2 No it's not a Democracy or a Republic. It's a democracy & a republic as all forms of democracy are republics & you don't capitalize random words. They are called representatives (again not capitalized) because that's what they are. & there is no such thing as "TRUE democracy", there's pure democracy, representative democracy, limited democracy & even post human democracy, no such term as "true democracy"
& Again we meet the requirements for a democracy hence the USofA is a democracy.
@Fuctmentality -You're wrong. READ THE DAMN CONSTITUTION. Mr Basso is wrong, he's a career man with the establishment media (aka. MainStream Media, Lamestream Media, Mockingbird Media). He repeats the deliberate error of identifying this nation as a Democracy. Actually, it is a REPUBLIC with certain democratic principles (such as popular vote). But unlike a Democracy, which is a 1-vote system; our Republic is a four-vote system. Ballot vote, Trial Jury vote, Grand Jury vote & Cartridge box vote.
@Minuteman1969 I repeat our system of governance fits the definition of democracy & therefor is a democracy. If you fail to understand this you shouldn't vote because only democracies count votes. Also read the damned Constitution before you tell others to.
@Fuctmentality -I've read the Constitution, but apparently you have not. Nowhere in the Constitution will you find the word 'democracy'. The Constitution says the gov. is supposed to guarantee to the states a REPUBLIC. That is the form of government we're supposed to have; so don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. Now, IF you're saying that the people running this country HAVE SUBVERTED our Constitution and altered our form of govt, then I would say yes, it is so.
@Minuteman1969 No READ the Constitution, don't just do a god damned word search & assume the fact that a word isn't in the document means that the document doesn't set up a democracy. That is not reading, that is being a fucking moron. Also look up the definition of republic.
@Fuctmentality -I've been studying the damn Constitution for over 20 years. You would'nt know the meaning of it all if it b!tch-slapped you upside your empty head. This country was founded as a limited REPUBLIC. Go back to your kool-aid.
@Minuteman1969 Well that's sad because you should have actually READ the damn thing during your 20 years of studies. & It's not called a "limited REPUBLIC", it's a "constitutional republic", & a "limited democracy". I took a look at your user page, I'm not sure if you're a dedicated troll or one of these assholes who thinks shouting random (ie batshit) things you heard on the internet & repeating "I m a patriot" over & over somehow makes you patriotic.
I don't understand this. It seems peculiar to me that those on the American right have looked towards Tom Paine, considering he very well could be considered the first proponent of Social Democracy, the form of government this video is criticizing.
HOW LONG ARE WE, THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES, GOING TO PUT UP WITH THE BULLSHIT OF THE EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE BRANCHES? TIME TO WAKE UP AND RE-READ THE CONSTITUTION! STOP SELLING YOUR SOULS!
We the People do install the Government to serve us the People and not otherwise! WE THE PEOPLE WILL ALSO REMOVE THE GOVERNMENT THAT DOES NOT DO SERVE US THE PEOPLE!!! Long Live the Constitution of the United States!
Dam straight this country will not be turned around by politicians, and anyone who believes so are brainwashed by believing in too many political lies. Read into history... very few politicians have ever attempted to turn America back to its glory which our ancestors shed blood, sweat and tears for... watching fathers, sons, and close friends lose their lives to call this country their own. Politicians are in it for one thing: themselves. They don't care about you... unless you're paying them
Well for one this guy isn't Thomas Paine the author of commen sense. But I agree with some of the things that he said. But this idea that a politician is going to change America is bullshit. Change is going to happen outside of the Capital. Outside of the Executive and Legaslative branches of government.
Paine was writing in 1790s--and our Founding Fathers were then RUNNING the government? So: maybe the Founding Fathers didn't all agree, just like liberals and conservatives today?
The Founding Fathers were not gods, nor demi-gods and, while they were visionaries of their time, they knew almost nothing in comparison to what we know today. Frightening a concept as it may be, especially to a rotten old fossil, changing with the times is a good thing, and I honestly doubt that the founding fathers, having done the same, would truly object in the long run.
This guy is disgusting for using Paine to rant his own views. How has Obama apologized? He hasn't. He's railed against the Republicans, and a single party's policies can't embody a nation.
@Theblizzardking Obama apologized all over the world. He bowed deeply to foreign leader and he took his marching orders from the UN. America is becoming a laughingstock.
Thomas Paine was a huge liberal. He conceived the concept of public schools and guaranteed income. Plus he was a hard-core atheist who hated the religious-right. Just read his book The Age of Reason,
Thomas Paine advocated social programs for the poor and elderly. He strongly opposed slavery. A Deist, his text Age Of Reason infuriated Jews, Muslims and Christians. He was a brilliant philosopher who inspired many French, English and Americans.
I doubt this idiot has read much of Paine's writings.
@whbon73 Try and stick to the story without the insults. Once you insult someone you've lost the argument . I seriously doubt that Thomas Paine had any idea of what a disaster the welfare state has been. If I lived back then I would have advocated for it too as well as oppose slavery. Time has it's way of changing things as the pendulum of time has it's way of making conservatives into liberals and vice-versa. Like he said "hand-ups, not hand outs".
@NCIcaucus If your opinion is that Thomas Paine's ideas are outdated, I will respectfully disagree. The actor in this vid, however, either intentionally or ignorantly, misrepresents Paine's work for the purpose of promoting right-wing ideologies in today's political scene. He is, therefore, deserving of insults.
@whbon73 i think your just mad because nobody listens to you, and 280,603 people listen to this man! nobody cares about your little degree in history...this man inspired 280,603 people...that's what WE NEED! now go read about general grant's drinking habits...it seems to inspire your kind.
@goldendoomer Can't claim to have a degree in history, but I'm not surprised that you would resent somebody who had one. Really, a bad actor who misrepresents a founding father is what you "NEED" more than an education? Pathetic. I'm guessing you're one of those shitheads who writes "Ron Paul in 2012" wherever possible.
@whbon73 He just chooses to be just like every other religious sillywad and neglect the ideas that he doesn't like and profess the rest at the top of his lungs...no better than propaganda this is....
it's a simple speech...if your house were on fire and your children were upstairs, then you saw your neighbors house on fire and their children were upstairs...which would you choose? if you were an AMERICAN, you would try to save ALL. Americans seem to be born humanitarians (that's what we are). we just seem to confuse our freedoms with money nowadays.
@goldendoomer Exactly, and we as a people of the US, all races will not be questioned as a nation and way of life and all taxpaying law abiding citizens should be able to defend themselves, prevent non legal order intrusion, and/or family equip against uprovoked armed aggresion with such without prosecution. Anyone who seeks to minimize/curtail these basic rights , is enemy of the US Constitution, it's military and police and every informed patriot and citizen, of the US.
that communist illegal alien fagot doesnt care, he was sent to destroy us, and is doing a great job of it. Arrest and deport him and all who helped him cover up his lie.
First, this guy voted the politicians in who started the problem. Second, not all founding fathers were economic conservatives. Paine certainly was a social liberal, and definitely not fond of religious institutions. The views in this video are not Paine's, some fit more in line with Thomas Jefferson's. The founding fathers were very diverse in their political views, and many supported strong federal power. To accuse all of them of turning in their graves presently is ignorant and disrespectful.
@Sabohaque he refers to himself as Thomas pain because he is the author of Common sense. He wrote it before the the American revolution and in it he talks about common sense government. maybe you should try reading it.
@txm4gunnut Common Sense says nothing of libertarian politics, or low taxes, political incorrectness, etc. This guy speaks as if Paine wrote in favor of them, and of religious practice. He did not.
@Sabohaque Thomas Paine supported the separation of church and state yes but he knew the importance of God in the lives of Americans. He was against religion not God himself. Common sense talks about politics of the day (back in 1776) and politcal incorrectness a wasnt very high on the list on the list.. He speaks about why large government is a threat to freedom and above all it was a cry for revolution. He has another video called the 2nd American revolution.
@txm4gunnut Paine clearly defines ideal government, and it includes more than local goverance. Maybe you should read the pamphlet without your presupposition that large government is inherently bad. If by "politics of the day," you mean aristocracy, then your excuse that Bob Basso gets his influence from Common Sense falls short. Hereditary privilege was looked down upon by Paine, including inheritance, which does not fit the common libertarian ideas of property ownership. This guy is not Paine.
@Sabohaque I never said he was. and by politics of the day I mean a monarchy, a form of government which is passed down to an individual, which Paine was against you are exactly right. all I am saying is that the pamphlet influenced this man to create a video and connect the similarities of the time periods to stop any injustice to the American people by a large government. Libertarians believe that large government is bad so i am really not sure what argument you are trying to make.
@Sabohaque if one were to only read common sense and not any of his other writings he does speak of libertarian ideas, so I see how it could be misinterpreted. thanks for clearing it up for me and keeping this debate civil.
This Tea Party propaganda piece directly contradicts Paine, and completely distorts 18th century ideology into sentimental hallmark "patriotism." What Paine really said about nationalism: The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion. Thomas Paine.
This video is a slander of Thomas Paine. He was a great patriot and a liberal and a hater of organized religion. This actor should stop dressing up like Paine and spewing this teabagger crap.
@calamagrostis88 Thomas Paine was NO liberal you dumb son of a bitch and albeit true his only fault was that of being an atheist, not even Benjamin Franklin agreed with his rants against Christianity as was the sentiment of Jefferson in his letters to the danbury baptists who also were concerned over the Muslims that might attempt to make our Government a Theocracy under sharia law.
@Ultramediacorp Clearly the Founders intended this to be a secular nation, this has been upheld by the Supreme Court many times, even the current Republican court. Paine was clearly a radical liberal, he believed that the land belonged to all people, so that property owners had an obligation to fund a payment to 21 year olds to compensate them for the loss of their land ownership, and also to fund a Social Security program for all people over 50. Sounds like socialism to me.
@calamagrostis88 Prior to 1900, the average life expectancy for males was 47.9 years, and 50.7 years for females. Today's equivalent eligibility would be about 78.3 years, on average. Also, it would have, I believe, been funded exclusively by ad valorem taxpayers (no income tax in those days). And, I'll re-read The Age of Reason, I don't recall that "land ownership" business the way you've presented it here. Your source, please? Half-truths scare the piss out of me, more so than outright lies.
@TheOldGrady My source is Paine's Agrarian Justice, where he says that the earth is the common property of the human race. Times were different then, but if he were alive today there is no way he would be supporting the tea party like this actor who is slandering his name.
@calamagrostis88 "It is a position not to be controverted, that the earth, in its natural, uncultivated state was, and ever would have continued to be, the common property of the human race" "... it is the value of the improvement...that is in individual property". (Thomas Paine, in a letter to Antoine Caritat, Marquis de Condorcet, 1796) I suppose that COULD be considered an interpretation such as yours, albeit not a serious one. "Uncultivated" gives the statement an entirely different meaning
@TheOldGrady Paine recognized that the investment of labor in the land gave people some owneship, but it did not totally disown the rest of the human race from their common ownership rights. This seems like a radical socialist idea to me. And today we see it this idea in practice through property taxes which are used to promote and provide for the general welfare. Socialism is simply a practical matter, all modern economies are a mixture of socialism and capitalism because this is what works.
@calamagrostis88 Clearly you have not read the Declaration of Independence and the writing of the Founding Father. I would suggest that you do a little more reading before you make such statements.
@calamagrostis88 Fund 21 year olds? Social Security eligibility begins at 62. Social Security is a trust fund, it is funded by the recipients, employees and business owners are required by law to participate, If the federal government had left SS alone there would be a surplus of funds.
@figocooldude Right, part of the problem is that these definitions of political philosophy become a part of the propaganda. So in some aspects libertarianism is appealing, but most of the people who claim this label are just trying to destroy democracy in favor of corporate rule. Paine was such an original thinker that he really does not fall into any catagory, but he did want to challenge power and force the powerful to share power more equally. Glenn Beck would label this as communism.
@calamagrostis88 This was never intended to be a secular nation. Never. It was intended that there would be no state religion forced upon the people. What I understand Bob Basso to say is we fund other nations, even those that oppose us. We fund illegal aliens with welfare dollars that rob us of our ability to adequately care for our own social obligations. I have no problem with aide to those who can't care for themselves. But let them be Americans, and not sneak theives .
@imrnlil I think you are a bit confused about what a secular nation is, it is exactly as you say "no state religion forced on the people," as clearly stated in the First Amendment. Bob Basso can spout lies such as that you have to work six months just to pay welfare to illegals, but he should do it under his own name, and not slander the name of the great Thomas Paine.
@calamagrostis88 your just another who tries to interpret the words of someone you never knew or will ever know and perhaps learned it at another one of our liberal universities. let me defeat your over-worded comment by saying that the simple minded and the hardworking have built and made this country what it is today and we don't give a rats ass about how your kind interpret our forefathers words. WE KNOW WHAT"S GOOD FOR US!
@goldendoomer Most of the profits from labor of the hardworking go to the top 1% who own more than 50% of the nations wealth. Americans keep working harder but keep losing ground, and they are so subservient to their masters that they parrot the propaganda that taxes are the problem. The power elite are skimming off all the cream, and the more you hate your government the more the billionaires get to suck up all fruits of your hardwork.
@calamagrostis88 good comment and you are correct in a historical way, however, it appears the Papers of Thomas Paine inspired and motivated a small group of people...the turning point became WE THE PEOPLE. it is possible that the threat of a socialist government can become the catalyst of a democracy. Thomas Paine understood Freedom. THAT my friend is the BASIC BELIEF OF A DEMOCRACY!
Really? Where do you get the balls to say that one of the greatest rational thinking minds fault was that he was an atheist. He was a deist you twit. Maybe you should read The age of reason.
@calamagrostis88 Yes you dumb ass READ THE MAYFLOWER COMPACT and you'll see it was the protestants who wanted a NON religious Gov and a Christian Nation. At the time of Jefferson's Presidency this country was 92% Protestant 2% Catholic the rest were deists and atheists who were NOT anti religion. Those that think the Constitution was so secular need only read the date where it says "In The Year of our lord" Who do you think the majority of Americans living then were talking about.
Wait, so not owning up to america's short comings is somehow respecting the "traits" handed down to us by our founding fathers?

They look exactly like the flag of Betsy Ross, but with a Roman numeral “II” in the center of the 13 stars. They are made in American (Texas) and are now seen on FoxNews nearly every day. Our flag also appeared recently in episode 7 of this season “Weeds” on Showtime. This flag is now in all 50 states and spreading from porch to porch. They make great gifts for family, friends and recovering Liberals.

And if you're too blind to see the very facts in plain sight, then I do truly feel sorry for you. Next time before you spout off this mindless banter to someone read up on history yourself.
Crazydog7 5 months ago
@Crazydog7 The founding principles in the Constitution created the most prosperous society in history. European Monarchs brought slavery to the New World, not the States. Slaves were worked to death in the Caribbean; they proliferated in the Colonies. The colonies did smuggle goods and services to avoid the Stamp Act. Bring back King George and his taxes compared to our federal cartel of corrupt politicians.
brainerdrebel 5 months ago
@brainerdrebel The taxes for the american colonies under king george were pathetically low,, of course you'd want to bring back a system were taxes are less than 3% of GDP.
Fuctmentality 5 months ago
@Fuctmentality a pathetically low tax? Taxes suppress the economy; Why do you think companies leave the States? Half our taxes go to ridiculous projects, like a shrimp on a treadmill. Your income tax doesn't run our federation of states, it goes to the federal reserve as interest on currency debt. Government pensions and benefits take up most of our local and state taxes. There is no good tax, education should be local and the families using it paying for it. Gas tax pays for the infrastructure.
brainerdrebel 5 months ago
@brainerdrebel I would think that laws against America producing certain goods would be the main thing that suppressed the colonial economy, you know the Navigation Act ,Iron Act,Sugar act, Molasses act et al. Our taxes are not the taxes the Crown imposed upon the american colonies, the federal reserve did not exist in colonial america. Understand that Modern America is NOT colonial America. & Yes <3%/GDP is a low tax rate.

I am predicting you read my post get emotional and post another ridiculous post. But I'll hope for change.
andybsmith 6 months ago
@andybsmith
TheKenTerry 6 months ago 4
@TheKenTerry Somewhat true, and yet you miss the mark, just a little. Thomas Paine was a theist, and thought he DID advocate social democracy, his vision of social justice was that everyone have an equal opportunity, not an equal financial platform decided by government. Nothing in this speech is contrary to what Paine would've promoted. We (as a country) have gone WAY beyond what Paine envisioned!

Minuteman1969 8 months ago
@Minuteman1969 Our country is a democracy. Here's why, our system of government meets the definition of democracy.
Fuctmentality 8 months ago
@Fuctmentalit The US is not a Democracy, it's a Republic, meaning "leaders" represent, you know, they are called "Representatives" for each state because the people are too stupid to be trusted to represent themselves and be a TRUE democracy.
iamlost2 8 months ago
@iamlost2 No it's not a Democracy or a Republic. It's a democracy & a republic as all forms of democracy are republics & you don't capitalize random words. They are called representatives (again not capitalized) because that's what they are. & there is no such thing as "TRUE democracy", there's pure democracy, representative democracy, limited democracy & even post human democracy, no such term as "true democracy"
& Again we meet the requirements for a democracy hence the USofA is a democracy.
Fuctmentality 8 months ago
Minuteman1969 5 months ago
@Minuteman1969 I repeat our system of governance fits the definition of democracy & therefor is a democracy. If you fail to understand this you shouldn't vote because only democracies count votes. Also read the damned Constitution before you tell others to.
Fuctmentality 5 months ago
@Fuctmentality -I've read the Constitution, but apparently you have not. Nowhere in the Constitution will you find the word 'democracy'. The Constitution says the gov. is supposed to guarantee to the states a REPUBLIC. That is the form of government we're supposed to have; so don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining. Now, IF you're saying that the people running this country HAVE SUBVERTED our Constitution and altered our form of govt, then I would say yes, it is so.
Minuteman1969 4 months ago
@Minuteman1969 No READ the Constitution, don't just do a god damned word search & assume the fact that a word isn't in the document means that the document doesn't set up a democracy. That is not reading, that is being a fucking moron. Also look up the definition of republic.
Fuctmentality 4 months ago
@Fuctmentality -I've been studying the damn Constitution for over 20 years. You would'nt know the meaning of it all if it b!tch-slapped you upside your empty head. This country was founded as a limited REPUBLIC. Go back to your kool-aid.
Minuteman1969 4 months ago
@Minuteman1969 Well that's sad because you should have actually READ the damn thing during your 20 years of studies. & It's not called a "limited REPUBLIC", it's a "constitutional republic", & a "limited democracy". I took a look at your user page, I'm not sure if you're a dedicated troll or one of these assholes who thinks shouting random (ie batshit) things you heard on the internet & repeating "I m a patriot" over & over somehow makes you patriotic.

Read into history... very few politicians have ever attempted to turn America back to its glory which our ancestors shed blood, sweat and tears for... watching fathers, sons, and close friends lose their lives to call this country their own. Politicians are in it for one thing: themselves. They don't care about you... unless you're paying them

Theblizzardking 11 months ago 3
Thomas Paine advocated social programs for the poor and elderly. He strongly opposed slavery. A Deist, his text Age Of Reason infuriated Jews, Muslims and Christians. He was a brilliant philosopher who inspired many French, English and Americans.
I doubt this idiot has read much of Paine's writings.
whbon73 11 months ago 37
@whbon73 Try and stick to the story without the insults. Once you insult someone you've lost the argument . I seriously doubt that Thomas Paine had any idea of what a disaster the welfare state has been. If I lived back then I would have advocated for it too as well as oppose slavery. Time has it's way of changing things as the pendulum of time has it's way of making conservatives into liberals and vice-versa. Like he said "hand-ups, not hand outs".
NCIcaucus 10 months ago
@NCIcaucus If your opinion is that Thomas Paine's ideas are outdated, I will respectfully disagree.

He wrote it before the the American revolution and in it he talks about common sense government. maybe you should try reading it.
txm4gunnut 11 months ago
@txm4gunnut Common Sense says nothing of libertarian politics, or low taxes, political incorrectness, etc. This guy speaks as if Paine wrote in favor of them, and of religious practice. He did not.
Sabohaque 11 months ago
@Sabohaque Thomas Paine supported the separation of church and state yes but he knew the importance of God in the lives of Americans. He was against religion not God himself. Common sense talks about politics of the day (back in 1776) and politcal incorrectness a wasnt very high on the list on the list.. He speaks about why large government is a threat to freedom and above all it was a cry for revolution. He has another video called the 2nd American revolution.
txm4gunnut 11 months ago
@txm4gunnut Paine clearly defines ideal government, and it includes more than local goverance. Maybe you should read the pamphlet without your presupposition that large government is inherently bad. If by "politics of the day," you mean aristocracy, then your excuse that Bob Basso gets his influence from Common Sense falls short. Hereditary privilege was looked down upon by Paine, including inheritance, which does not fit the common libertarian ideas of property ownership. This guy is not Paine.
Sabohaque 11 months ago
@Sabohaque I never said he was. and by politics of the day I mean a monarchy, a form of government which is passed down to an individual, which Paine was against you are exactly right. all I am saying is that the pamphlet influenced this man to create a video and connect the similarities of the time periods to stop any injustice to the American people by a large government. Libertarians believe that large government is bad so i am really not sure what argument you are trying to make.
txm4gunnut 11 months ago
@txm4gunnut I'm making an argument that Paine was not libertarian in his beliefs.
Sabohaque 11 months ago
@Sabohaque if one were to only read common sense and not any of his other writings he does speak of libertarian ideas, so I see how it could be misinterpreted. thanks for clearing it up for me and keeping this debate civil.

This Tea Party propaganda piece directly contradicts Paine, and completely distorts 18th century ideology into sentimental hallmark "patriotism." What Paine really said about nationalism: The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion. Thomas Paine.
ckhthd 1 year ago 2
This video is a slander of Thomas Paine. He was a great patriot and a liberal and a hater of organized religion. This actor should stop dressing up like Paine and spewing this teabagger crap.
calamagrostis88 1 year ago
@calamagrostis88 Thomas Paine was NO liberal you dumb son of a bitch and albeit true his only fault was that of being an atheist, not even Benjamin Franklin agreed with his rants against Christianity as was the sentiment of Jefferson in his letters to the danbury baptists who also were concerned over the Muslims that might attempt to make our Government a Theocracy under sharia law.
Ultramediacorp 1 year ago
@Ultramediacorp Clearly the Founders intended this to be a secular nation, this has been upheld by the Supreme Court many times, even the current Republican court. Paine was clearly a radical liberal, he believed that the land belonged to all people, so that property owners had an obligation to fund a payment to 21 year olds to compensate them for the loss of their land ownership, and also to fund a Social Security program for all people over 50. Sounds like socialism to me.
calamagrostis88 1 year ago 24
@calamagrostis88 Prior to 1900, the average life expectancy for males was 47.9 years, and 50.7 years for females. Today's equivalent eligibility would be about 78.3 years, on average. Also, it would have, I believe, been funded exclusively by ad valorem taxpayers (no income tax in those days). And, I'll re-read The Age of Reason, I don't recall that "land ownership" business the way you've presented it here. Your source, please? Half-truths scare the piss out of me, more so than outright lies.
TheOldGrady 1 year ago
@TheOldGrady My source is Paine's Agrarian Justice, where he says that the earth is the common property of the human race. Times were different then, but if he were alive today there is no way he would be supporting the tea party like this actor who is slandering his name.
calamagrostis88 1 year ago
@calamagrostis88 "It is a position not to be controverted, that the earth, in its natural, uncultivated state was, and ever would have continued to be, the common property of the human race" "... it is the value of the improvement...that is in individual property". (Thomas Paine, in a letter to Antoine Caritat, Marquis de Condorcet, 1796) I suppose that COULD be considered an interpretation such as yours, albeit not a serious one. "Uncultivated" gives the statement an entirely different meaning
TheOldGrady 1 year ago
@TheOldGrady Paine recognized that the investment of labor in the land gave people some owneship, but it did not totally disown the rest of the human race from their common ownership rights. This seems like a radical socialist idea to me. And today we see it this idea in practice through property taxes which are used to promote and provide for the general welfare. Socialism is simply a practical matter, all modern economies are a mixture of socialism and capitalism because this is what works.
calamagrostis88 1 year ago 2
@calamagrostis88 ...whatever.
TheOldGrady 1 year ago
@calamagrostis88 Clearly you have not read the Declaration of Independence and the writing of the Founding Father. I would suggest that you do a little more reading before you make such statements.

@MrDickbowie What exactly do you not agree with?
calamagrostis88 1 year ago
@calamagrostis88 Fund 21 year olds? Social Security eligibility begins at 62. Social Security is a trust fund, it is funded by the recipients, employees and business owners are required by law to participate, If the federal government had left SS alone there would be a surplus of funds.
brainerdrebel 11 months ago
@calamagrostis88 Yep, we anarchists have more of Paines influence than the so called "libertarians".

Glenn Beck would label this as communism.
calamagrostis88 10 months ago
@calamagrostis88 This was never intended to be a secular nation. Never. It was intended that there would be no state religion forced upon the people. What I understand Bob Basso to say is we fund other nations, even those that oppose us. We fund illegal aliens with welfare dollars that rob us of our ability to adequately care for our own social obligations. I have no problem with aide to those who can't care for themselves. But let them be Americans, and not sneak theives .
imrnlil 10 months ago
@imrnlil I think you are a bit confused about what a secular nation is, it is exactly as you say "no state religion forced on the people," as clearly stated in the First Amendment. Bob Basso can spout lies such as that you have to work six months just to pay welfare to illegals, but he should do it under his own name, and not slander the name of the great Thomas Paine.
calamagrostis88 10 months ago
@calamagrostis88 your just another who tries to interpret the words of someone you never knew or will ever know and perhaps learned it at another one of our liberal universities. let me defeat your over-worded comment by saying that the simple minded and the hardworking have built and made this country what it is today and we don't give a rats ass about how your kind interpret our forefathers words. WE KNOW WHAT"S GOOD FOR US!
goldendoomer 9 months ago
@goldendoomer Most of the profits from labor of the hardworking go to the top 1% who own more than 50% of the nations wealth. Americans keep working harder but keep losing ground, and they are so subservient to their masters that they parrot the propaganda that taxes are the problem. The power elite are skimming off all the cream, and the more you hate your government the more the billionaires get to suck up all fruits of your hardwork.
calamagrostis88 8 months ago
@calamagrostis88 good comment and you are correct in a historical way, however, it appears the Papers of Thomas Paine inspired and motivated a small group of people...the turning point became WE THE PEOPLE. it is possible that the threat of a socialist government can become the catalyst of a democracy. Thomas Paine understood Freedom. THAT my friend is the BASIC BELIEF OF A DEMOCRACY!
goldendoomer 8 months ago
@Ultramediacorp
Really? Where do you get the balls to say that one of the greatest rational thinking minds fault was that he was an atheist. He was a deist you twit. Maybe you should read The age of reason.
metahelix 1 year ago 2
@Ultramediacorp Thomas Paine WAS a liberal. He was not, however, an Atheist. He was a Deist, as were most of the founding fathers.
whbon73 11 months ago
@calamagrostis88 Yes you dumb ass READ THE MAYFLOWER COMPACT and you'll see it was the protestants who wanted a NON religious Gov and a Christian Nation. At the time of Jefferson's Presidency this country was 92% Protestant 2% Catholic the rest were deists and atheists who were NOT anti religion. Those that think the Constitution was so secular need only read the date where it says "In The Year of our lord" Who do you think the majority of Americans living then were talking about.
