It's becoming a recurring theme in the Big 12. Another team deserves to go to the Big 12 championship. Oklahoma goes anyway. Oklahoma gets beat. That year it was the Wildcats that got screwed. With an identical record and proof that they were the better team in head to head competition there's not really any doubt amongst many people that Texas wasn't the more deserving team. I'll never forget going into this game how the '03 Oklahoma team was being talked about as the "greatest team of all time", and then for K-State to lay the boot to them was something else to watch. I was at my company's Christmas party the night of this game. At first, every time a guy went to the bar for a drink he would come back with a score update. When a guy came back and told us it was 21-7 KSU we thought he had to be drunk so a bunch of us went over and sure enough. It was funny watching all the guys gravitate over to the bar because nobody could believe what was happening.
And yet somehow OU goes to the title game after one of the worst beat downs on a #1 team in history. This is blinding proof they had no reason to be there.
You do realize that OU losing that game cost us an at-large BCS bid, right? Watching OU lose is fun, but in 2003, it caused us getting bumped to the Holiday Bowl, where a completely disinterested Longhorn squad found a way to lose to a mediocre Washington State team. One of the darkest years for Texas football in recent memory.
the only way a small market team like ksu could even get a reluctant bcs bowl berth was to beat a team that got stomped in their own conference championship but was still apparently championship material. it was their first bcs game since the beginning, despite finishing in the top 3 once and the top 6 once without a bid

Funny thing is, their memories are about as long as their peckers. Saw them dogging out some MU fans on another board and quoting their series record. MU's program seems to be getting better every year so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a repeat of this in Arrowhead sometime in the next few years. I'll be looking forward to it. A bad memory from that night, i was watching this game from my house laying down and i kept my eyes shut for the last 7 minutes of this game. As a true OU fan, ive been to over 200 games and did not go to 10 games and this was one of the 10 games!!
The greatest night of my football life! I sat in a house in North Richland Hills, tx with my wife and puppy and went absolutely ape shit. When the game ended I sprinted to end of my street wearing a KSU flag as a cape and just yelled, "boomer sooner my ass!!!" Good times.

That was the year Jason White won the heisman also. I remember, because for a year I lived in Oklahoma, and it was in '03. Loved going to school on that monday and seeing all the dejected OU fans just sulking around. OU then lost to LSU in the National Championship.
Also, on an arbitrary note for other KSU fans: Michael Bishop plays in the Canadian Football League. I was looking at their player of the year ballots, and his name came up.

I still can't believe this happened. Oklahoma was INVINCIBLE during the season. They pissed me off with how good they were. I didn't think ANY team would come CLOSE to them. Many teams were arguing who should me #2. ANd then THIS happened. K State shocking them and beating them was one thing. But to DEMOLISH them 35-7 was unbelievable. Dunno how it happened, but I'm so glad it did.

A three way tie. The same conference record. A head to head victory. That leaves no question who deserved it more. With an identical record and proof that they were the better team in head to head competition there's not really any doubt amongst many people that Texas wasn't the more deserving team. There's also not much doubt that Oklahoma has been shown favoritism within the conference. Hence the reason the legitimacy of the college game will never be on par with the NFL. It's rigged.

Tech was in the three-way tie and had the same conference record as Texas and also had a head to head victory. That's the thing Texas fans keep forgetting, it wasn't a two-way tie... It was three-way. In a two-way tie scenario, Texas most definitely deserved to go. In a three-way, it's up in the air, and the pollsters took BlowU. So yeah, you're right... it's rigged as far as pollsters want to take it. And college will NEVER be on par until there is a playoff system...

Husker fan here, remember this game vividly. I'll never forget going into this game how the '03 Oklahoma team was being talked about as the "greatest team of all time", and then for K-State to lay the boot to them was something else to watch. I'm not a K-State fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I became an admirer of Darren Sproles after this game. What a freak!

He was not eligible to coach for OU in this game and subsequently the Nat'l Championship game against LSU. Our defense, clearly, missed Mike Stoops in this game and NC game. I will never forgive Mike S. for going to Arizona. If he had went to a school with some tradition or something, I would have understood, but, cmon, arizona? WTF?

@TheRiles589 That 90% figure is garbage. I graduated from OU, was a member of a fraternity at OU and have worked with several OU alums. Those people were some of the brightest people I've ever met and were very racially and economically diverse.
OU has it's share of what you call "inbred white trash." But so does Neb, KU, KState, Mizzou, and Texas. Every one of those states has a large rural/agriculture area.
But FWIW, i travel a lot for work and Ive met a ton of FLA, AZ & California rednecks.

@PVcat1 and also dude, coaches get talked to all the time before a season is finished. its just the nature of the business, and happens every year, because coaches are always trying to better their job at certain schools, and everyone is just getting ready for the offseason. unfortunately, it happens before the games are over on the current year, which i don't agree with either, there should be a rule to where no one can change jobs until the season is finished, but it will never happen

K-State had some player troubles involving ell roberson before the fiesta bowl, I think it threw us off before that game unfortunely. This was a team that started out ranked 6th in the nation before losing 3 games due to key player injuries(ell roberson and partly sproles)

not even close. usc's offense was so much better in 2005. seriously, OU didn't have running backs who could even compare to reggie bush and lendale white. and usc's receivers were so much better. their offensive line as well. but carrol would take the starters out earlier than stoops would take his starters out. so OU ran up the score on everyone

because florida's style is completely different than usc's.
usc had a pro-style offense. mark sanchez was the most accurate quarterback in college football last year. florida had a unique style of offense. but tebow is not a very accurate passer. plus harvin wasn't 100%. OU had one of the worst pass defenses in the country. With usc's passing offense, they would've scored a lot more than florida did

I mean look at when bob stoops was k-states d-coordinator, "his defense" best defense in the nation fell apart and look confused in the 2nd half of the 1998 Big 12 Championship Game that would have sent us into the NC game. Then theres the fact that OU fans just don't got class. Never met one yet with it.

I was at my company's Christmas party the night of this game. At first, every time a guy went to the bar for a drink he would come back with a score update. When a guy came back and told us it was 21-7 KSU we thought he had to be drunk so a bunch of us went over and sure enough. It was funny watching all the guys gravitate over to the bar because nobody could believe what was happening.

You do realize that OU losing that game cost us an at-large BCS bid, right? Watching OU lose is fun, but in 2003, it caused us getting bumped to the Holiday Bowl, where a completely disinterested Longhorn squad found a way to lose to a mediocre Washington State team. One of the darkest years for Texas football in recent memory.

MU's program seems to be getting better every year so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a repeat of this in Arrowhead sometime in the next few years. I'll be looking forward to it. Nothing more priceless than watching those sad looking bastards cry in their beers.

This was seriosly one of the best days of my life, I remember everyone saying how this OU team was the best team ever, and I was there and all the k state fans were throwin these free bags of tostito chips everyone got onto the field, man I was like 11 and I stayed up until 5 am that nigh, hell my dad even let me drink beer!

A bad memory from that night, i was watching this game from my house laying down and i kept my eyes shut for the last 7 minutes of this game. As a true OU fan, ive been to over 200 games and did not go to 10 games and this was one of the 10 games!!

The greatest night of my football life! I sat in a house in North Richland Hills, tx with my wife and puppy and went absolutely ape shit. When the game ended I sprinted to end of my street wearing a KSU flag as a cape and just yelled, "boomer sooner my ass!!!" Good times.
