Is it possible to reduce the negative vertical displacement when you flip the quadrotor? Perhaps if the motors are reversible you could increase the torque by reversing one side instead of dropping it's power.
Yes, it's certainly possible.. by better scheduling the thrust command, etc. Unfortunately the motors aren't reversible and even if they were, fixed-pitch props tend to be horrifyingly inefficient when operated in reverse (let's say 5% of normal lift; the rest of the power gets wasted into drag)

both the quadrotor and the wand are tracked by a motion capture system (8 cameras with IR strobes above the field).
