So delightful as those little Vivaldi and klezmer references are this must be among the cheesiest renditions of Albeniz's Asturias I have ever heard. Expertise in violin playing or showmanship, however high it be, is beside the point in this respect. I tend to find honest rock and metal performances and genuine classical tradition of interpretation both very appealing. This, however, seems to fall quite awkwardly between. My politest applause, but too cheesy for me really. Anyone feel the same?
@abacab54321 Sorry to disagree with you abacab (No actually I'm Not) but after reading your remarks I feel that you are either an ignorant boor or a talentless, tin-eared jerk. You aren't likely all of those so be honest, which ones are you???
@Tburg1958 Cheers, Tburg. You sure come across as a nice fellow. Was it the 'cheesiness' part that so got under your skin? Well, rather than a piece of constructive criticism it was only a blurb one could've done without, an expression of personal opinion, or a passing symptom of jerkiness if you please, after listening versions of this piece and studying a transcription. Btw, what could there possibly be for you to be sorry about in disagreeing? Other than getting absurdly upset and personal?
@Tburg1958 To gauge the one's lack of talent might is waste of time when there is genuine interest towards the things one chooses to study, don't you think? Thus I must admit feeling quite comfortable right where I stand, learning more every day just for the hell of it. Not a matter of competition or quantification, but one of cultivation. How much is sitting pretty with any amount of your implied talent, refined taste and sense of entitlement doing for you? The same remedy goes with ignorance.
@Tburg1958 Musicwise, such quasi-improvisatory passages as those on the latter half of this version often incorporate stylistic allusions and little quotes from various sources other than the original piece itself and, ears of tin or not, there is material to that effect to be heard here also. I went on to establish that I really respect and enjoy wildly different stylistic approaches to any musical material, but felt a bit shortchanged here regardless the effect it makes on you.
@Tburg1958 Making crossover music with style is obviously not an easy feat to pull off. I take it a listener's right to assume a critical or analytical stance without being an expert, as well as share it without being taken as denouncing all it's merits. That's how appreciating a cultural product goes. If it's the misuse of language that annoys you, mind you that not all of us have English as their first language. Something tells me you're not one to care much about such things though.
@Tburg1958 Finally, other than coming up with a generous list of my possible personal shortcomings with plenty of perks to pick and choose from, you really failed to make any relevant point to accompany your rant. But hey, from a boor to boor, there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting protective around things one most cherishes. And it even borders on the understandable to succumb to devoted fanaticism according to one's personal taste. Or lack thereof.
there's always some db who's like "why isn't she in the kitchen" or some bs, and I'm just tired of that kinda joke and it wasnt funny at the first place. if you guys keep being sexist, why don't you guys try that? or just go back to your pigpen and waste your time playing video games, fat ass.
As much as they are skilled, "Albéniz wouldn't know what hit him" is a huge overstatement. They skip the quiet/slow part of the piece altogether, and the lead girl starts making mistakes when they do the double-tempo ending.
The whole thing could use a rehaul. Yes, they're skilled, but they fail both at being artistically interesting (because they miss the point altogether) and commercially viable -- because of the simplistic, unexciting arrangement and beyond-their-skills showmanship.
I've never understood how people can possibly think "it lacks soul" to be an objective argument. That's just a fancy way of saying it doesn't match your personal taste.
I think it has a healthy dosage of soul and spirit and even a couple of poltergeists as well.
*Sighs dreamily* Don't you guys and girl just love hearing the voice of the violins? it's like a beautiful lady singing very beautifully and gracefully. If it was in the medeivel days, men would beg on their knees infront of her and also they'll have tears of joy. i'm being very honest here. If I was a guy, i'd do that. In the medeivel's days.
So the only people who can gauge a performance are people who are able to perform? So if you can't cook, you can't say you didn't enjoy a meal? If you don't drive, you can't tell someone is a bad driver? Your thought process is warped -and the performance remains dreadful.
It does not mean she can't play - she's virtuous in her performance but it lacks life and soul. And, if you disagree, it is absolutely your right. I know this piece inside and out and this performance is BAD.
I won't start a fight with you. I simply disagree, just because it'd never come to my mind to make a negative comment on something I could not do myself, whatever it is, no matter if cooking, painting, playing an instrument, driving,or any other thing that requires some skills. You did not say you hadn't enjoyed it, you said "it's bad" just as if you were able to perform on that level, not speking of doing better. Your behaviour is bad, ... and your taste is not a reference. Bye..
@Xtof68 umm....no offense, but i agree with sofaking. although it was bad to say that the performance was dreadful, it could have been a lot better. well, it isn't really Alicia's fault- the piece itself is flawed. it really does lack soul.
@AvatarRifle well you can try to play it by ear...that's what i'm doing
it's working sorta fine, but you need a lot of patience and determination to try to learn it by ear.
And if you can't memorize it like that, try to write out the music on a sheet of paper. I find it better to just try it out on my instrument. Good luck! :)
When i started to learn Violin...my teacher said : ''The Violin is the King of all music organs'' is true !!! and with Violin u can play and wil sounds good all the kind of music !!!! amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Bravo girls !!!

I agree ANDIEM789, alot of flamenco music is in half of full step tuning, my guess is that they used the piece that Isaac Albeniz composed. not the original piece.
I wish I could get this version of the sheet music. I have another version, but its not as good, I don't have the parts she does past 1:20.
